The sharpest observers of class and status in the early and mid–20th century were left-wing intellectuals. In part, this is because they saw themselves as critics of the established order. To challenge a system, you first have to understand it. That outsider perspective often made them unusually perceptive about how status and hierarchy actually worked. A good example is Pierre Bourdieu. In his book Distinction: A Social Critique of the Judgement of Taste, he introduced the idea of “cultural capital.” Most people are familiar with economic capital, which refers to money and material resources. Bourdieu’s insight was that elites do not just accumulate wealth. They also convert it into signals of taste and status. In his time, this meant knowledge of fine wine, art, music, and travel. These were not random preferences. They functioned as markers. When someone displayed this kind of knowledge, they were quietly signaling that they belonged to an educated and refined social class, one shaped by elite institutions and social networks. Reading Bourdieu today, the parallels are hard to miss. The specific signals have changed, but the underlying logic remains. This is where the idea of “luxury beliefs” emerges. Many of these beliefs operate as a modern form of cultural capital. They signal membership in a certain class, not through taste in art or wine, but through the right opinions. Those opinions are often shaped in similar ways. People move through private schools and elite universities. They enter professional environments that reward certain viewpoints. They consume particular media and adopt the language and assumptions that circulate within those circles. Over time, their beliefs drift further from those of the broader public. What looks like a set of moral or political commitments can also function as a status signal. In that sense, the mechanism Bourdieu described has not disappeared. It has simply taken on a new form.

History is made: Fine structure mystery solved? /🧵 UPDATE: My model may have solved an outstanding question in physics: the origin of the fine structure constant. I found a robust source and it works even with some tuning within -3% to 7% over a massive range of non-linear fields. What is the fine structure constant? Watch the video below and you'll find out. Essentially its a mysterious constant that occurs in atomic and subatomic physics that has no unit. Countless people have tried to find a reason for it, and most have turned to numerology. I did something that only could work in this age of LLMs and someone who is a motivated expert in the field. Did a massive paper search, found the material in 10 minutes, aligned everything, then had it double check for me. Note that I wasn't looking for it. It occurred to me by accident when I was developing my bilinear principle of electromagnetic interaction. Within an hour, I had a value for it. My idea was simple: apply my non-linear soliton model to the electron in a way that makes my current x current interaction make sense not just at the atomic level but the subatomic level. Look at E = mc^2. It's the same as E = (sqrt(m) c)(sqrt(m) c). If sqrt(m) could be scaled to a charge, then you could interpret it as two scaled currents multiplying against each other. This is almost identical to the equation for the energy contained within an inductor L with a current I running through it: E = 0.5 L I^2. So far, sketchy right? Here's the thing, vortexes are solitons and they can exist in superfluids -- they even have quantised "Noether charge". They acquire a mass from their vorticity, have an energy associated with them and can move at any speed inside the medium with a different speed. Exactly like electrons! So my idea was to map the electron exactly to these vortices. If I could predict the mass of the electron, I could actually finally connect mass to electromagentism properly (Planck's argument is elegant but indirect). I used dimensional analysis to do this. It took a few tries to get it right and I had it checked by 10 different instances of the highest powered LLMs. With this first order approximation I got within 1/4th of the mass. It was almost exactly 1/4th... so I realised, I had to use a double cover to make it like SU(2). After another half an hour of research, I felt confident in using something like Dirac's scissor to do it. A kind of knot within the electron. It got me within 1.2% of the mass of the electron... but there was a problem, the mass of the electron occurred on the other side of the equation. I cringed at myself. Such an amateur mistake, I thought. But the LLM (Opus 4.5) actually corrected me and told me I had just accidentally derived the fine structure constant. Why? Because the mass terms cancelled out, or if one prefers, leave behind a correction ratio. Set that correction ratio and you get a function that implicitly defines the fine structure constant through two "parameters": 1. The actual geometry of the soliton/vortex. 2. The non-linearity of the medium and how it changed the vortex core. I went back and found an equation from friggin' Lord Kelvin, derived in the Victorian era. I then found an analysis from 1970 on the Non-linear Schrodinger Equation (NLSE) applied to exactly this domain but for a larger scale soliton in superfluids -- it didn't matter though because a superfluid and the medium of space are scale free as I had proven in the superconduction part of my paper. In any case plugging these two approximation in got me within 1.2% of the fine structure constant by solving the following implicit equation: 1 = 8 * pi * alpha (Log_e(8/alpha) - alpha_core) Where alpha_core is 1.615 in the NLSE. The most incredible thing? It was a ROBUST value for thin ring vortices. Even if you adjusted the alpha_core from 1.5-2, the values for the fine structure constant only changed between -3% to +7%. I cannot emphasise how incredible this result is -- it means that the actual non-linear equation and the other candidate geometries that reproduce SU(2) can actually get the exact value of the fine structure constant. I don't know of anyone who even approached this problem in this way without making ansatz or postulates. I'm still checking through the math in disbelief. If it's wrong it's going to be beautifully wrong. All LLMs I've ran it through agree with the math, just not the foundations which is expected due to their QED bias. This will be in chapter 11 of my paper. I've already sketched out the full derivation. This SIGNIFICANTLY strengthens an already game changing paper. I promise it'll be the last discovery I include and thank you for your patience. I wrote this full update out because of the significance of this development. It is done! Grok has literally built something that no one else has but anyone studying space weather would want! I will be releasing it today to the world on my website for free , and as open source for anyone to tweak, add or change things as they see fit! First we managed to resurrect the old Japanese NICT magnetosphere monitoring page, getting all the original data... then, added in the SOLAR-1 Data, and the data from the BOM Australia on the Magnetopause (shell around earth that bounces around). The magnetic field lines of the magnetoSPHERE coming from the ACE and Solar-1 data, and the bouncing shell of the magnetopause from the BOM, then we added in the Schumann resonance, to give each magnetic field line from the ACE and Solar-1 data an oscillating glow that lights up according to the current Hz of the Schumann. There is an option to turn on charged particles, which will then reflect off of , or be pulled in towards (or stay neutral) to the magnetic field of both the ACE + Solar-1 field LINES and the outer shell magnetopause from the BOM!!!! This is huge! When Bz goes green one way the particles turn RED and are reflected off of Earths magnetic field like a force field.. and when Bz goes Red, the particles turn GREEN and are accepted in to Earths fields! When neutral positive you see light blue and when neutral negative the particles are grey. Simply put, you can now look at this and know just by the particle color and their direction whether Earth was accepting or denying particle absorption!!!! Nowhere in the world has anyone put anything like this together into one model. Now we have it! All of these are toggleable on and off, so each one can be viewed on or off at any time. Also added multiple types of lighting and graphics controls , so that the user can control the amount of lighting, glow, thickness of the field lines when displayed, and the amount of the flashes per second using the Schumann hz filter, as well as the amount of brightness of each flash. Can go anywhere from 7hz up to 40+hz just like the actual Schumann resolance. You can also turn on "manual control" so that you can simulate "what would happen if" solar wind went up high or if the hz rate of the Schumann were to spike what it would look like magnetically on the spherical display of the magnetic field. Finally a record option was built in to allow for recording of movies in the program, which I have uploaded here now. Not the highest quality yet, but I figure people will use screen capture programs instead of this if they're making movies (this is fine for public use as is now imo). Also added in color controls for the background (default set to black) and for the magnetic field lines which default to Red and Blue just like the old NICT Japanese site which got shut down years ago.

His academic work is in “Stochastic terrorism,” which is “using hostile public rhetoric, repeated and amplified across media and communication platforms.” Literally, his expertise is manipulating minds. He’s not an expert on peaceful protests. He’s not an operational guy. His background is in psychological warfare. Participants were told “for their safety” they must “have training,” but this training isn’t about situational awareness, first aid, or practical defense against pepper spray. It’s, in fact, teaching you how to mentally prepare to escalate violence. Let’s look at his tactic. First, a meditation session. Why? To get you “out of your brain” and in “touch with feelings.” He then explicitly tells everyone to tune out everything but their feelings. Next… the four thousand people here are being asked to confront armed federal agents. What is the natural reaction for anyone confronting armed men? Nervousness. I love the police; my father-in-law was an NYPD officer, but my heart beats faster when I’m pulled over by my local PD. He’s telling them to listen to that “heat behind the eyes, tremble in your hands,” which is fine, but then he is lying. He’s telling you to interpret that natural panic when facing authority as moral superiority and your “conscious.” Next, he has to dehumanize opponents and set the stage for “us vs. them,” but this is tricky because almost every American knows a Republican. So he says “I want to be clear who they are,” and he gets very specific so the picture of your MAGA uncle or priest doesn’t enter your mind. IMHO, the person most responsible is Eric Ward, but of course, he’s not going to blame himself. Then he says, “The people who died at the hands of ICE snd border patrol should be alive.” What people? He doesn’t say. It’s not about the people; it’s about drawing a straight line from Renee and Alex to ICE. Then he says, “Let’s tell the truth.” Which any kindergartener knows is followed by lies, but his listeners are in a trance from the breathing exercise. Listen to the sing-song nature of how he speaks. It’s literally hypnosis. Hypnosis for the BIG whopper lie: “Federal law enforcement is not here to keep us safe.” Really, Eric? Maybe you can make an argument that some federal law enforcement isn’t here to keep us safe… but you didn’t specify. You didn’t exclude organizations like the US Coast Guard, which is federal immigration law enforcement and does keep us safe. Why? Because he needs to paint with broad strokes in case other agencies are called in. Nad now the stage is set to dehumanize: “Federal law enforcement is killing people, beating people…” And the worst lie: “Detaining people like disposable objects.” Once you are hypnotized. Once you trust your feelings over facts. Once you know those feelings make you morally superior. Once you know ICE thinks you are “disposable garbage,” then you are prepared to act with violence! Just trust your feelings and don’t look at the massive endowment the Southern Poverty Law Center has to fund physiological operatives trained in Marxist theory like Eric Ward.

Private credit didn't blow up because of Blue Owl or bad software loans or AI disruption. Those were SYMPTOMS. The disease is the same one I've seen 3 times in 45 years on Wall Street: Too much money, too much leverage, too little discipline, and a financial product sold as "safe" to people who didn't understand what they owned. Private credit grew to $3 trillion on a simple lie - that you could earn 9-10% yields with "semi-liquidity" on assets that have no liquid market. That's not investing. That's volatility laundering. And the Street dressed it up beautifully. "Private credit." Sounds so exclusive, so sophisticated. Illiquid loan sharking would be more accurate. And don't get me started on "private equity", another Wall Street rebrand designed to make LEVERAGED BUYOUTS sound like fine wine. They changed the name because the old one scared people. The risk didn't change. Just the marketing. Wall Street has always been brilliant at one thing: rebranding risk as exclusivity and selling it to people who don't know what they're buying. Now add oil at $113 a barrel and watch the whole thing come apart. The Strait of Hormuz is shut. The IEA is calling it the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market. The Fed held rates steady yesterday and the market just RIPPED AWAY expectations for even a single cut this year. Oil is the fuse. But the TNT was packed years ago. Oil above $100 means inflation stays sticky. No rate cuts. Every overleveraged borrower inside these private credit portfolios gets squeezed harder every single month. Interest coverage ratios deteriorate. Defaults tick up. Valuations get marked down. And when valuations drop, the leverage stacked on top of that leverage (the "back-leverage" that banks provide using those same loans as collateral) starts to unwind. And JPMorgan already started. They marked down software loan collateral and restricted lending to private credit funds. When the biggest bank in America pulls back, that's a SIGNAL. High-yield spreads just surged to 470 basis points. The widest in years. Credit markets are screaming what equity markets haven't fully heard yet. I've watched this exact pattern before. - Junk bonds in the '80s - Dot-com leverage in 2000 - Structured mortgage products in 2007 The product changes every time but the architecture never does: Wall Street creates something complex, sells it as safe, layers leverage on top, markets the yields to retail investors, and collects enormous fees on the way in. Then something breaks and the gates go up. The people who built the machine are fine - they already got paid. The people who bought the brochure are trapped behind locked doors. $265 billion in market cap already wiped from the major PE firms. I don't think we're close to done. And you know what? That's FANTASTIC. Perhaps we'll finally get some real price discovery. Just say no to mark to model. Holders of this fine merchandise will get the returns they deserve. The pension funds, endowments, and insurance companies that piled into this garbage should take the hit. No bailouts. NONE. This nonsense has gone on far too long and moral hazard is the predictable result. The only way to end this insanity is to let Mr. Market operate. Allow price discovery. Allow bankruptcy. No more money printing. No more crony capitalism. No more extend and pretend. Blow it all up. That is the only way. "But what about the individuals who get hurt!" Better to take the hit now and reset than continue down this road. Hyper-financialization is destroying our economy and enriching the fortunes of the few. This must stop. NOW. For the animation, I prompt: “Animate fade in, slide in, blur in, element by element. Use 'both' instead of 'forwards'. Don't use opacity 0.”. This creates a subtle intro animation the first time users land on your page. Gemini 3 is an excellent animator. For example, I created the beam animation with this prompt: “Add noodles that connect and beam animate into the right circle. Add subtle details to the right beam animation circle with sonar and decorations.” For background animation, I use Unicorn Studio. Remix one of their templates and watch people click on your cover like crazy. What can I say, people love lasers. In the hero or right below it, social proof is super important. You can put ratings or logos, or both. For logos, you can prompt: “Animate the logos with marquee animation looping infinitely using duplicated items and alpha mask.”. Now the CTA. AI always creates basic buttons, which is fine 99% of the time. But Gemini 3 now sets a high bar for baseline design, so you will need to stand out. That’s why I put the extra human touch on animations and lickable buttons. I suggest browsing UIVerse and Codepen for buttons and reference the code in your prompt: “Change main button {code} and secondary button {code}. Add a 1px border beam animation around the pill-shaped main button on hover.”. Once you’re happy with the hero, you’ll want to craft new sections based on your business. Features, action plan, pricing, testimonials, FAQ, CTA and footer are the popular ones. Insert a screenshot and prompt “Adapt a new section, change texts, names and numbers”. Gemini 3 is very smart. It reads your existing styles and site concept and will tastefully mold new designs to fit perfectly into your current site. Finally, repeat the same prompts for icons, buttons and animations. Use midjourney images and remix using Nano Banana Pro. Ask ChatGPT to come up with better headlines, features, ctas, etc. Don’t skip the human part, this is where you’re irreplaceable. Start prompting top-tier landing pages and watch your numbers grow.

We all know if you go to ChatGPT or Claude and ask it to write for you, it's gonna sound like AI. Maybe you've tried uploading some examples or a style guide and still get disappointing results. Lots of AI writing apps purport to "write in your style," but they typically just generate a short summary of your style using a prompt like "Analyze the style and tone of these writing samples" and then stick it into the prompt. Maaaaybe they'll throw in a few examples. We've tried this and didn't think it was great, so we killed it. But when Nathan Barry pushed us to think about this problem again, we came up with a subtly new technique that had a big impact on the results. (The reason I'm sharing it is because our goal is to build the world's best interface for collaborating on text, and the world's best platform for saving, sharing, and running prompts. Proprietary prompting techniques are not our thing.) Instead of just asking what the "style" is (a very fuzzy question) we ask AI what patterns it can find. Specifically we ask it to look for patterns in structure and tone. Then—and this is crucial—we ask the AI to generate a detailed set of instructions that a new writer could use to consistently reproduce those patterns. We include those instructions and a bunch of examples in a prompt (often quite a large one, it's kinda expensive for us tbh). I think it works so much better than just giving examples or giving a broad overview of "style" because LLMs are trained to pay close attention to instructions and thrive on specificity. Here we ask the LLM to look for very specific patterns and generate equally specific instructions to reproduce those patterns. The other cool thing is unlike a fine-tuned model this is powered by a big-ass prompt that you can inspect and modify to your liking. Does it sound a little too enthusiastic? A bit cheesy? Just edit the prompt. Of course it's not perfect, it's still gonna need careful editing, but to us this feels like an obvious leap. I'd be really curious to hear if it feels the same to you.
