Oil Marketing Companies have organised around 1,600 awareness camps, distributing nearly 14,000 cylinders. About 1.1 lakh cylinders were sold yesterday, taking total sales to nearly 8.9 lakh since March 23. Domestic needs remain prioritised, with fertiliser plants receiving about 95 percent gas supply. #WATCH | Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Central Government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, to ensure the uninterrupted availability of natural gas and LPG. The Act empowers the government to regulate the production, supply, distribution and trade of essential commodities and take strict action against hoarding, black marketing and violations. LPG cylinders have been declared an essential commodity, and authorities are closely monitoring supplies across the country. The government has also directed efforts to increase LPG production, prioritise supply for essential sectors and diversify import routes to maintain energy security. State governments have been empowered to impose stock limits, conduct inspections and take punitive action against illegal stockpiling. Officials have urged the public not to indulge in panic booking or rely on rumours circulating on social media, reiterating that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG cylinders in the country. The Centre and states are working in coordination to ensure stable supply, fair prices and equitable distribution of essential commodities, while strict action will be taken against anyone involved in hoarding or black marketing.
