Rivian has been working since 2022 to re-architect its self-driving system around an end-to-end trained model. The ultimate capability of the vehicle will be level four self-driving - being able to operate autonomously without anyone in the driver's seat, says CEO RJ Scaringe.

"Getting to Level 4, which is the idea of the vehicle driving empty, you sitting in the backseat, picking up groceries for you, or dropping you at the airport, our timeline for that is 2028. Police discovered from the car’s black box that Michael David Butler overrode Tesla's full Self-Driving system by pressing the accelerator to its maximum position prior to the crash. Butler had the vehicle allegedly driving at 73 MPH in a residential neighborhood. He apparently pressed the accelerator multiple times during his ride. I tested Xpeng's VLA 2.0 in the streets of Beijing, and it is comparable to my experience of daily driving Tesla FSD v14. Xpeng is not charging $100 a month to drive this. It is inlcuded in its higher-trim vehicles and it already caught the attention of Volkswagen, which is going to integrate into its own vehicles - something Tesla hasn't been able to do despite trying.
