📣 After nine months of bargaining and eight weeks of strike action, BCGEU public service members have reached a tentative agreement with the provincial government that makes meaningful progress on wages, affordability, and respect for frontline workers. This agreement was won through solidarity — from members who stood strong on hundreds of picket lines to allies across the labour movement who stood beside them. It reflects the determination, unity, and strength of our membership and of working people across B.C. While this tentative agreement has been reached, members of the Professional Employees Association (PEA) remain on strike. BCGEU members will continue to respect PEA picket lines in solidarity with those workers, who have yet to reach a fair deal with government. Until members hear otherwise, all picket lines will remain up. The bargaining committee will be providing further information to members soon. Full details of the tentative agreement and ratification process will be shared with members in the coming days. ✊When we fight, we win.✊

I want to speak directly to San Francisco’s public-school parents and our students. I know many of you are worried about the possibility of a teacher strike that could temporarily close schools—and I want you to hear this clearly from me: our kids come first. As mayor, even though I don’t oversee our school district, I’m deeply committed to making sure our kids get a world-class education—with safe public schools where kids can learn and educators are well supported. It is crucial that our schools remain open. Every day in the classroom matters. I have been in regular contact with both the school district and the teachers union, and I am urging them to keep talking so kids can keep learning. Our working parents can’t afford to stay home if schools are closed. Our special needs students can’t afford to lose access to vital services that help them succeed. Schools are the foundation that makes daily life possible and helps every family in San Francisco thrive. I am also actively working with city departments to ensure we have options for our students in the event that classrooms do close. But I want to make one thing clear—what is best for our students is for the adults to continue discussions at the table so we can keep kids in the classroom. I will continue pushing for solutions that keep our schools open and our students learning. San Francisco’s families deserve nothing less.

In Stockton teachers opened up the gates to closed campuses allowing kids to run around the city unsupervised. Then a girl gets jumped by kids AND adults. Now what ? Parents drop their kid off at school expecting they will be safe to and now a girl is at home dealing with getting beat up. Homeschool. It’s the only way. Stockton and Lincoln unified better hope they can’t be sued.

Iyienu Mission Hospital produced the first midwife in Nigeria. I partnered with voluntary agencies. The reason the teachers went on strike was because I returned schools to their original owners, and that decision triggered the strike. What I saw that day was unacceptable — children learning in dilapidated classrooms, unsafe environments, and schools abandoned by time. I promised immediate action, and today, the transformation speaks for itself. Army Day Secondary School has been totally rebuilt with modern classrooms, new desks and chairs, clean learning environments, and essential teaching tools that inspire excellence. And this same wave of progress is reaching many other public schools across Edo State. This is Practical Governance in motion. Education remains a top priority in our Five-Point Agenda because we cannot build the future while neglecting the foundation.
