Literally shaking! Behind the scenes of a special test 🚀 Earlier this year, Redshift, our third stage, completed a full vibration test campaign in flight configuration! Unlike isolated component checks, this was the real deal: all systems integrated and tested under simulated launch conditions. Because launch is no gentle ride. Everything must endure intense vibrations and still perform flawlessly. The result? Electronic connections remained strong, the systems (including antennas, telemetry, flight computer, navigation systems) stayed up and running, and we obtained valuable data to further refine and improve. Enjoy this glimpse of Team Redshift and their work behind the scenes, turning challenges into progress, one test at a time!

Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg flew the T-38 chase aircraft which monitored XB-1 in the air. Two decades after Concorde’s retirement, the first flight of XB-1 marks the return of a civil supersonic aircraft to the skies and paves the way for the revival of mainstream supersonic travel onboard Overture, Boom’s sustainable supersonic airliner. Our flight test team found everything is bigger in Texas, including the wind. #TeamBoeing navigated strong crosswinds in Midland, Texas, to validate the 737-10’s autoland system, designed to land the airplane safely in low visibility and challenging wind conditions. The people of Mwihoko in Kiambu County made away with the black box of the AMREF plane that crashed yesterday. For starters, the black box is the most survivable part of the aircraft, which investigators use to reconstruct the events that lead up to a plane crash. The black box is made up of the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder. The cockpit voice recorder collects radio transmissions and sounds such as the pilot’s voices and engine noises, as well as listens to conversations between the pilots and crew and communications with air traffic control. Here’s the static fire video! This all-up test was really a hop mission simulation and included everything from flight avionics, power systems, computers, GNC, RCS, tank pressurization, and, of course, the engine and heat shield. The only thing we simulated was the position data, which was derived in real time from engine data. Simulating the position gave us the opportunity to inject dispersions, such as a persistent roll, which you can see the badass RCS fighting hard to correct. Huge success across the board!
