SDF Statement: "For the past three days, our forces have been coordinating with the so-called International Coalition to transfer ISIS detainees held at al-Aqatan prison in Raqqa to secure locations. Despite repeated promises, the coalition has taken no concrete action. During ongoing clashes with Damascus-aligned factions attacking the prison, our forces continued their duty to secure the facility and prevent a security breakdown. As of this statement, nine of our fighters have been killed and twenty wounded. Fighting is still ongoing under extremely dangerous conditions." #Syria: a tour inside the infamous #Palmyra prison, which was turned into a tool of repression against political opponents decades ago. In 1980, up to 1,000 prisoners were executed under Hafez Assad in retaliation for an assassination attempt. The prison was notorious for extensive torture & its inhumane conditions long before Saydnaya gained infamy. It was officially closed in 2001 but reopened in 2011 following the anti-Assad protests. In 2015, the facility was abandoned after #ISIS took over Palmyra. Until 2001, some 17,000 detainees were killed in Palmyra prison.

In 2015, ISIS seized a commercial and residential building in the town of Abu Hamam in Deir ez-Zor and turned it into a security prison, which it used to detain and torture members of the Shaitat clan. Dozens of detainees disappeared in the prison. This was part of the massacre committed by ISIS against the clan, which resulted in more than 814 deaths and hundreds of missing persons who were buried in mass graves. ‘The ISIS Prisons Museum documented the prison through audio testimonies of former detainees, along with an architectural and forensic analysis of the building and a 3D reconstruction to provide a deeper understanding of the violations committed inside.

The cell came from Deir ez-Zor and entered Al-Hasakah with the intention of attacking Al-Ghweran Prison, which is filled with ISIS members. The Syrian Government continues its media warfare against the SDF claiming that the SDF is responsible for the execution of prisoners at a prison Center near Tabqah - seemingly unaware that their own journalists have posted the videos of their forces entering, raiding and looting the prisons. At that time, now ≈4-5 hours ago there were no executed prisoners. 1 hour ago they started to spread this narrative and blame the SDF for it, at that time the prison was under the control of the STG. Further: after the designation of the area as a war zone by the STG, the SDF has evacuated the prisoners.

UPDATE | Amritpal Singh and other WPD members currently detained under the NSA, which is set to expire next month, are currently on hunger strike after finding secret spy cameras set up in their Dibrugarh jail washroom. It is believed that the camera was set up to capture footage that can be used for blackmail if the Sikh political prisoners are released after the lapsing of the one year limit on arbitrary NSA detentions. The health of the prisoners is worsening, explains WPD lawyer Imaan Singh Khalra and Amritpal Singh's brother Harpreet Singh, as they demand to be transferred to a Punjab prison as their constitutional rights are being infringed in Assam. A demonstration has also been set up outside the Darbar Sahib Complex by WPD members and supporters, which SAD(A) leader Simranjit Singh Mann visited. He shared that if the government does not raise its concerns over the safety of these Sikh political prisoners, and get them transferred to Punjab, they will proceed to block rail lines within five days.

Fra Hughes from Ardoyne was joined by dozens of activists from Ireland and hundreds from across the globe who were detained while on board vessels that were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was attempting to bring medicine and food to Gaza. Hundreds of people gathered to welcome home the Irish detainees at Dublin Airport on Friday. They were among hundreds of global flotilla participants detained when stopped by Israeli forces in international waters.
