Tesla says that FSD "requires a fully attentive driver". But its driver monitoring system is so defective that the driver can text, read a book or even fall asleep at the wheel. Ford and GM figured out an effective driver monitoring system years ago. Why can't Tesla?

Today, CNBC released a new video with Consumer Reports comparing driver-assist systems. But there's a problem… in the video, they used Tesla's Autopilot, not Tesla's FSD (Supervised), and compared that to the top offerings in other automakers' cars. CNBC also claimed that Tesla lacked an effective driver monitoring camera, but Tesla does have one—so much so that some Tesla owners complain about its sensitivity. Camera based driver attention monitoring is less strict for Autopilot than it is for FSD (Supervised). Not once in the video did they test the latest version of Tesla's FSD. Consumer Reports says Ford and GM have the best driver assist systems. The Mercedes system they praise in the video is extremely limited and can only work on highways. Tesla's FSD (Supervised) will work on virtually any road in the US/Canada.

A lot is being said about Tesla FSD. This video shows something different. FSD is set to a maximum speed of 130 km/h. The recognized speed limit is 120 km/h. When I press the accelerator, I can temporarily exceed that speed. But the moment I release the pedal, FSD smoothly returns to 120 km/h. In other words, Tesla does not continue speeding on its own. And let’s not forget the most important fact: The driver remains responsible for the vehicle at all times. FSD (Supervised) is a driver-assistance system that follows traffic rules, not a replacement for the driver. Watch the video. Facts over fear.

With FSD v14.2.1 Tesla’s driver attention monitoring system has definitely gotten much more relaxed… is it just me that is experiencing this? This could hint that allowing texting and driving feature is just around the corner….

His son guided the car through the Tesla app to the nearest hospital. He also called the hospital so ER staff were waiting on arrival. Doctors later said the quick reroute likely saved his life. This guy just built a driver’s drowsiness detection software using Python. The software detects when a driver is sleepy or distracted and immediately triggers an alarm to wake them up. He also integrated a voice system that speaks to the driver as an additional alert. The system allows the driver’s company to monitor the driver’s activity, and a report is sent to the company whenever the driver appears sleepy or distracted.
