Advanced Technology Chip Fab (ATFC) update from this week’s flight. A large section of the ground slab is being poured today over the yellow moisture barrier. Rebar is in place for more pours, the new tall crane is assembled and working the slab, and the last reinforced footings on the south end are still going in. This is the joint Tesla / SpaceX ATCF on the east side of Giga Texas and it is a ~490,000 sq ft research fab. The Tesla Optimus factory at Giga Texas continues to make fast progress with assembly & more than double the number of cranes are now working on the site! We also see steel truss beams arriving, hinting some open areas without 4 floors of the structure may soon emerge in its construction. On the an end, assembly is rapidly approaching the perimeter beam, while on the S end more GeoPiers, footings & perimeter grade beam construction continues. Roof access structures are beginning to be assemble too, while rebar is being laid down on the floor decking ahead of concrete pours.

The North Campus at Giga Texas (aka Optimus 10M/yr factory) work on the main foundation continues, with gravel & crushed concrete being laid down in a massive excavation on the south end, while GeoPier, footing construction & rebar cage assembly work makes progress on the middle to the north end of the site. The foundation work shows at least two types of footing construction underway, one of which appears as isolated footings (or pad footings) with a column starter cage which is a standard reinforced concrete foundation element used under individual columns in buildings. I’m not sure why there are serial kinds of footings being used here, but it is similar to what was used for the south extension to the main factory, along with a few other areas in the main building.

Since I always get this question, this is NOT the Terafab that will be built likely a 100 miles or so to the east in Grimes Country, Texas. This is the smaller development facility that is the first part of the overall AI Chip development program.

The new Giga Texas Optimus factory foundation work continues with three distinct sections under construction. On the south end of what I think may be phase 1 of the construction, the large depressed graded area has had about .5 to 1 meters of gravel and crushed concrete added and now GeoPier equipment is at work. On the middle section, dense footings of two primary types are being constructed, suggesting heave loading of the structure in this area. On the north end, it’s mainly flat grade with little footing work so far. I say I *think* this might be a two phase construction project because the north perimeter grade beam is laid out as if it is the final configuration, but the south end is not. There is a large field south of this area that, with reclamation work, could support a doubling of the structure, if that was desired.

17 August 2026 Giga Texas Snapshots! Many interesting changes today including a complete revision of the E secondary glass entrance to the main factory along with a large section of wall panels removed. The Optimus factory continues to grow & may have some floors poured with concrete. The E Advanced Chip fab foundation has many footings, some poured with concrete & the perimeter grade beam is starting to take shape. Superchargers are being installed at the Test Track Operations Center to support a growing number of Cybercabs undergoing track & other testing. Lots more to see today!

What is going on at the Space & Tesla Terafab? Almost unbelievable progress right out of the gates! Already the first part of foundation construction has started. As a reminder, the Terafab project was formally announced in March this year and initial ground breaking & clearing began only about 1 month ago! Terafab, once completed, will be about the size of 10 Giga Texas factories ... this is a gigantic construction project and the speed so far is quite impressive. The Giga Texas Optimus Factory latest update … construction keeps moving fast! Steel assembly is now only about 5 column grids from the north perimeter beam. Concrete is going in on the three upper floors, rebar is still being laid for more pours, and footing / grade-beam work continues on the south end. The east side still looks more open w/ long roof trusses likely going to span ~3 grids. Possible atrium or taller bays. Stairwell with roof access showing on the west side. This is Tesla’s dedicated high-volume Optimus plant, which is planned as a ~7 million sq ft building for the 10 million robots/year line. In California, the Fremont Optimus Pilot line is nearing the start of production with a potential run rate of ~ 1M/yr pilot, probably beginning initial production in the 4th Qtr of this year. The Optimus Factory at Giga Texas continues to see quick installation and assembly of steel on the growing superstructure, now 8 column grids “long” and nearly as wide as the final perimeter grade beam. GeoPier work on the south end continues as the prerequisite for footing construction. Footings are nearly complete not eh entire north end and on the south end, the foundation is reaching into the newly reclaimed land, which will further lengthen the building, inching closer to the Central Campus Support group of facilities which includes the Battery Cathode, Die Shop and Cortex 2 facilities.

The beveled corners that we saw in the original render have yet to emerge, so I’m not sure if this is a change, or will be added later. Steel beams & columns are beginning to be stockpiled nearby. 4 new permits were filed in the past few days for the large trailer complex that houses the general contractors and the temporary Tesla offices for the new facility, a great sign that things are progressing rapidly behind the scenes to fit out the facility when construction progresses far enough to allow for equipment installation. On the S end, the land reclamation work and extension of the site continues too, along with footing construction now at the N angled corners of the foundation!
