While the US finally had a break from tornadoes, it was CANADA that surprised many when it dropped a wedge tornado near Shoal Lake, Manitoba yesterday evening. In this radar loop, you can see where this tornado's origins came from starting with the outflow boundary (the line of weak reflectivity values the storm pops out from to the east of the radar site). Outflow boundaries concentrate extreme low-level rotation and force rapid upward motion, such that when supercells interact with these boundaries, the pre-existing spin can be stretched into tornadoes.
