This week brought a significant sanctions strike, and I am grateful to our partners for this. The United States has imposed new sanctions on Russia’s oil sector, targeting the shadow tanker fleet and companies like Surgutneftegaz, which serves as Putin’s personal wallet. I’m also thankful for the sanctions against... officials of Rosatom. This is crucial to pressure Russia’s nuclear industry for holding our Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant hostage. The United Kingdom is taking new steps to limit Moscow’s revenue from energy resources. Japan has also introduced a sanctions package targeting Russia’s weapons production, restricting the supply of components and cutting off key schemes that support their arms manufacturing. During my recent visit to Italy, sanctions were also a key topic of discussion. Italy firmly supports maintaining pressure on Russia, and I am grateful for their help in blocking Russian sanctions evasion schemes and working with the EU to sustain all measures aimed at forcing Russia to peace.show more

Today, during our meeting with Mark Carney, we discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. And it is important that such decisions are being made. We also discussed formats of defense cooperation, Canada’s participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model, and cooperation in the energy sector. Importantly, Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with energy support and assistance in recovery. Our warriors also imposed long-range sanctions on an oil refinery in the Leningrad region that generates millions of dollars every month for Russia’s war budget. Effective long-range work over the course of this week has also been confirmed, including against facilities in Bashkortostan and the Arkhangelsk region. Every day, Russia must feel that the war is returning to where it came from. My first meeting with the new Prime Minister of Latvia, Andris Kulbergs (AS) 🇺🇦🇱🇻, and an important result for our countries – we signed a Drone Deal. These are concrete things to strengthen our joint defense and co-production, and, importantly, this also means Ukraine’s expertise and experience helping to strengthen our partners. This is exactly the kind of systemic cooperation we are building with those who have consistently supported us throughout all the years of Russia’s war. Ukraine is interested in ensuring that every region of Europe has sufficient protection against Russian threats. I also informed the Prime Minister about Ukraine’s air defense needs. Separately, we discussed sanctions pressure on Russia, in particular strengthening sanctions against Russia’s shadow fleet. I am grateful that we have such excellent relations between our nations. And we thank Latvia for all the support it has provided to Ukraine throughout this war.
