This week brought us closer to finalizing the 19th sanctions package – we expect its approval soon. We will quickly synchronize the package in Ukraine. Russia’s energy resources are being restricted. The infrastructure of the “shadow fleet” will face new pressure. Cryptocurrency schemes used by Russia to bypass sanctions... will also be countered by Europe. I am grateful that many of Ukraine’s proposals have been taken into account in the EU sanctions package. We now expect strong sanctions steps from the United States as well – Europe is doing its part. Everyone can now see Russian interference – against Poland, and yesterday against Estonia. These are not accidental incidents. Russia will continue trying to spread its aggression, destabilization, and interference. This is their system. During these weeks, while the UN General Assembly was taking place, Russia literally used every day, every hour to strike Ukraine. Treacherous strikes. And this is what defines Russia – what they do, not what they say or send out as signals around the world. They have spurned all genuine peace proposals and deserve truly tough pressure. This week we expect decisions from Europe on such pressure – at the very least, a new sanctions package, the 19th. It is especially important that sanctions hit painfully at Russia’s energy trade and the entire infrastructure of its tanker fleet. Moreover, intelligence now indicates that the Russians are using tankers to launch and operate drones against European countries. This is yet more evidence why the Baltic Sea and other seas must be closed to Russian tankers – at the very least to the shadow fleet. We also count on strong steps from the United States. We discussed with President Trump what could truly push Russia to change its position and stop the war. The world has tools that can work in a genuinely peace-making way.

I am grateful to Canada for its new package of sanctions against more than 160 entities linked to Russia’s shadow fleet. Today, during our meeting with Mark Carney, we discussed strengthening sanctions pressure on Russia. And it is important that such decisions are being made. We also discussed formats of defense cooperation, Canada’s participation in financing the production of Ukrainian drones under the Danish model, and cooperation in the energy sector. Importantly, Canada will continue to provide Ukraine with energy support and assistance in recovery. I thank Mark for his strong position during the G7–Ukraine meeting and for all the support for our people. We truly have strong allies and the Prime Minister’s significant personal engagement in supporting Ukraine. And this is highly valuable.

I am glad to welcome the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, to Ukraine – a friend of our state, a person who does so much to support us, to stop the war, and to reliably guarantee security. Today, we held a substantive discussion on a wide range of issues. Significant attention was paid to the attack the Russians carried out against Poland yesterday. Everything indicates that the launch of Russian drones into Polish territory through the airspace of Ukraine and Belarus was deliberate and by no means accidental. Unfortunately, Russia retains the ability to continue and expand its aggression. Strong steps are needed – not only from Europe – strong pressure that will truly limit the potential of Russian warmongering. I am grateful to Finland for supporting all our sanctions work. We expect the 19th package of EU sanctions. I am also grateful for the support of our path to the EU and the opening of clusters. A separate and essential matter is shelters. In Ukraine, we value Finland’s participation in such initiatives as the Shelter Coalition. This helps us not only at the state level but also at the community level. It is important to intensify the work of these coalitions, and all cooperation that supports our country, communities, and every person.

Our institutions are working on the synchronization of European and Ukrainian sanctions. We are also fully aligning the European sanctions package targeting the regime in Iran, which includes numerous individuals, companies, and entities not only involved in military production and external terror schemes against neighboring countries in the region, but also in internal repression within Iran itself. Our institutions are working on the synchronization of European and Ukrainian sanctions. We are also fully aligning the European sanctions package targeting the regime in Iran, which includes numerous individuals, companies, and entities not only involved in military production and external terror schemes against neighboring countries in the region, but also in internal repression within Iran itself. Tonight, our air defense warriors destroyed 167 aerial targets used by Russia to attack Ukraine. I thank everyone who defends our skies. In total, there were 183 attack drones and 11 missiles of various types — “Kinzhal,” ballistic, and cruise missiles. The strike mainly targeted the Poltava region, particularly Kremenchuk. And this is just one night. This month alone, Russia has already used around 2,800 attack drones, nearly 3,000 guided aerial bombs, and 140 missiles of various types against Ukraine. Moscow has been doing this for four years now and is constantly increasing the number of strikes. That is why it is so important for all decisions on tightening sanctions against Russia to be made in the coming weeks. We need price caps that will stop this war. We need sanctions against Russian banks and the financial sector that will truly hit hard. We must also combat sanctions evasion schemes. The United States, the European Union, and the G7 countries have the power to make this happen.

These include developers, manufacturers, and suppliers of drones for the occupiers, individuals assisting in importing critical components into Russia, as well as those training drone operators. In total, more than a hundred entities and individuals. We are actively working with our partners to synchronize these sanctions with their respective measures. It is crucial that all our partners continue to intensify sanctions pressure on Russia. Without foreign components and without schemes to bypass sanctions, Russia cannot sustain its terror campaign. Every “Shahed” drone and every Russian missile contains dozens of foreign components. That is why it is essential for our sanctions pressure to work hand in hand with the global effort.
