I agree with 99% of what you said here except the “AI doesn’t build architecture. It builds features.” I’ve been working on a massive point-of-sale platform for 8 months and I have learned a TON about how the AI thinks and what it’s good at and it is damn good at architecture.

"Making it not broken is not the same as fixing it"... Truth

you sir, are a wise man for sure. Your words are true and reminds me I made the right decision about something recently so Thank you

Your so right. AI is an excellent tool, however you have to create that friction in order know why something works or does not work. Cranking out code without knowing that you could do it yourself means you are a small player in someone else’s game.

Louder for those in the back!

But asking it why its approach is “correct” or my approach is not, is extremely important. There is so much I don’t know and I think those of us that continue to feed our intellectual curiosity is what will ultimately define the advance vibe coders from today’s “script kiddies”.

You words are healing my soul after experiencing this AI hype

Counterpoint. I have spent enough time inheriting human's codebases vs reviewing AI's codebases to see that "slop cannon" is a fair insult but it's pointing in the wrong direction.

Pulling your hair out for days trying to figure out why your code won't compile is a valuable experience. It forces you to think critically and form deeper intuition. With AI I can't imagine this exists at all at university anymore.

The difference is software development vs software engineering..before you develop any software you have get the engineering right..LLM is trained but on a, maybe very large set but still limited, set of data..cost vs accuracy vs hitl will define effectiveness of AI

yea time under tension :D the karpathy strat :D

Ai is Google all over. Learning how to interact with it to help get you to what you need. The only difference is it can help rubber duck you to the right place

Definitely recognize that there is a line, but atill trying to figure out exactly where it is for me.

Great take, Scott!

I’m on a bicycle

I do what I want. 😀

Youre smoking Crack if you believe this is how it's going to go lol. No chance
