wow. This is insane A Nobel laureate claims his high‑pulse laser system could unlock safe, uranium‑free fusion and power hundreds of thousands of homes if prototypes succeed 🤯! Shuji Nakamura, a nobel price winning physicist who invented the blue LED, is now leading Blue Laser Fusion, a company aiming to make commercial nuclear fusion a reality. Nakamura estimates that about 99.5% of fusion research has focused on magnetic confinement, while his team is pursuing the remaining 0.5% through advanced laser technology. At the heart of the concept is OEC, an Optical Enhancement Cavity that stores high-energy laser pulses and can amplify them by up to 100,000×. According to the team, this could provide precise control over the fusion process while improving efficiency and reducing engineering risks. Researchers at the UCSB compare the system to a hammer and an anvil: the laser acts as the hammer that strikes the hydrogen fuel target, while the optical chamber acts as the anvil, storing and regulating the laser energy needed to initiate fusion. If development stays on schedule, Blue Laser Fusion plans to build a 1-gigawatt pilot fusion power plant near Santa Barbara by 2032, capable of supplying electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes. Nakamura's blue LED transformed energy-efficient lighting around the world. As per the International Energy Agency, if older lighting technologies were still used, global indoor lighting electricity consumption would be about 70% higher, while the electricity saved by LEDs is comparable to the power consumption of South Korea. Now, Nakamura hopes to make an even bigger impact through Blue Laser Fusion by developing virtually limitless, zero-carbon fusion energy that could transform how the world powers homes, industry and future technologies.

🚨 THE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY THAT COULD POWER CIVILIZATION FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS ISN'T FUSION. Molten Salt Reactors use molten fluoride or chloride salts as coolant and in some designs, the nuclear fuel itself is dissolved directly into that salt. This is very different from traditional reactors. Instead of solid fuel rods sitting in water under high pressure, these systems run at much higher temperatures but at atmospheric pressure, which dramatically reduces the risk of explosions or meltdowns. The salt can flow over solid fuel, or the fuel can be mixed directly into the coolant. Both approaches are being actively developed. Why this matters: • MSRs operate at high temperatures, making them potentially much more efficient at generating electricity and process heat • Low-pressure operation makes them inherently safer than conventional water-cooled reactors • Some designs can burn existing nuclear waste or use thorium as fuel • The technology could support everything from advanced power generation to hydrogen production and industrial heat The deeper implication: For decades, nuclear power has been dominated by one basic design concept. Molten salt reactors represent a fundamental rethink using a liquid that can act as both coolant and fuel. This opens the door to reactors that are safer, more flexible, and potentially capable of solving some of nuclear energy’s biggest historical challenges (waste, fuel efficiency, and public perception of safety). While still in development, MSRs are one of the most promising pathways for next-generation nuclear power. We may be looking at the early stages of a genuinely new chapter in how humanity generates clean, reliable energy. May this young man's Soul Rest in Peace. The carnage continues due to unprecedented levels of greed, dereliction of duty, and lack of accountability. The funds are actually there and have been provided over the past decade. The Ministry of Finance Ministry of Finance has released about UGX 100 Billion since 2019 for a Department of Government whose main responsibility and objective should be prevention of road crashes. These funds have been spent on activities with very minimal impact on road safety. This information has been shared with IGG, Office of the Auditor General Uganda, Criminal Investigations Directorate-UPF. How do you explained the death of a young man in a fatal road crash that caused the incineration of the vehicle which he was driving? He must have been driving in one of the best motor vehicles in this country given the wealth of his family. He was driving a motor vehicle which probably had good safety features on a smooth road without pot holes. It is easy to draw conclusions like he was speeding, he was fatigued, he lost control of his motor vehicle, he made errors, e.t.c. Whereas all that may be true, did he deserve to die in such a gruesome way for those errors in judgement? The answer is a BIG NO. The truth is government failed him in so many ways. At the center of modern day road safety management is recognition that errors made by road users (drivers, motorcyclists, cyclist and pedestrians) MUST NOT lead to their demise. Here is a situation he found himself in: Concrete Barriers on a road that encourages high speed. Who has the onus to remove this hazard? Government. I could have perished in the same circumstances a few years back before the completion of the KEE on the way to the Airport. It was a rainy early morning at about 5:00am and I drove through barriers which were made of plastic. So why were these not made of plastic? Was there a provision for lighting on that section? If not, it should have been there. This is what we mean when we say roads should be forgiving. Apart from their design, road sides are the major reference here. The road should have forgiven him for this error if it had plastic reflective barriers. These kind of barriers would have caught his attention and he would have stopped his car instead of killing him. Were the traffic lights functional? Why was there no hazard signage or warning of any sort since there were barriers in middle of the road? This section of the road is built as an expressway and as such encourages speeding especially at any time beyond midnight. There are no traffic calming measures in place yet it is freely used by pedestrians and Boda-Bodaz like any other city road. Roads are supposed to be designed and constructed bearing in mind the activities that take place around them (Land Use). Interventions to control speed must be implemented if there is a high volume of different road users. They would have got his attention and he would not have died. A glaring example of contractors that do not care about road safety is on the section of Kampala-Masaka in the swampy section of Lwera. The Concrete Barriers are there and in places where they are not, there is nothing preventing a motor vehicle falling off into the swamp. Not even a rope. UNTIL THE DAY WHEN THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS COUNTRY ACCEPTS THAT ROAD CRASHES ARE PREVENTABLE AND PARLIAMENT STARTS DEMANDING ACCOUNTABILTY ON ROAD SAFETY, THIS CARNAGE WILL CONTINUE. ACCEPTING THERE IS A PROBLEM IS THE FIRST STEP TO SOLVING IT OR MANAGING IT. TOMORROW IT MIGHT BE ME OR YOU. LETS STOP PAYING LIP SERVICE TO UGANDANS ESPECIALLY ALL THOSE FAMILIES THAT LOSE LOVED ONES IN THIS MESS OF GREED AND LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY. The Ministry of Defense warned Kiev about strikes on the energy sector. Why? Last night, there was a loud explosion of asbestos cement products at a plant in Kiev. The Ministry of Defense reports that the plant's storage facilities were used to store explosives for the company "Smart Ammunition," which manufactures drones and their components. But the second part of the latest report is even more interesting. The troops have been tasked with preparing massive strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The wording is dry and bureaucratic: "preparing to launch." This is a response to what Kiev has been doing to our fuel and energy complex all summer: oil refineries, oil depots, substations, and civilian facilities near the border. Each time, it was presented as "legitimate military targets," and each time, Europe nodded in agreement. Okay. The logic is accepted. We'll use it. But we are a country with a strong foundation, while they have a crippled energy system that they have been patching up with transformers from all over Europe for the third year. The difference in strength is where it matters most. A reasonable question arises: why announce it in advance? Surprise is worth more than money in war. And there's not much surprise to lose here. You can't move a substation to the forest, and you can't hide a transformer with a capacity of 250,000 kilovolt-amperes underground in a week. The only thing the enemy will be able to do is to rearrange the anti-aircraft batteries between facilities. And they already have fewer of those than they have facilities. The average Ukrainian citizen is being shown the cause-and-effect relationship in plain text. Podolyak has long since stopped hiding the fact that strikes on our rear are aimed at the average Russian citizen, so that he feels the war on his own skin. Zelensky says the same thing, but a little more carefully: Russia will feel the war in its own home. Okay. A person in a Kiev apartment building is already looking for a generator and a power bank, which have doubled in price overnight. The owner of a shopping center is calling an electrician and calculating how much diesel will cost. No missiles have arrived yet, but the expenses have already started. While the war was happening somewhere near Krasnoarmeysk, it could be watched on the phone like a series. While our Ryazan and Volgograd were burning, it was called "work on legitimate targets" on the telethon, and people clapped. But when the elevator stops on the sixteenth floor, when the pump stops pumping water, and the temperature in the apartment rises to plus twelve, the show will be over. The war will come to the hallway, to the meter, and to the radiator. And that's when the person will first start to wonder who exactly signed that bill for them. Not in Moscow. Just weeks ago I considered this to be a map of Superchargers. The foundation that made EV’s a going concern for the first time. But it’s not. These dots represent fully permitted and built power stations in an era where every AI player is trying to figure out how to get power for compute. This is the largest electrical power moat I’ve ever seen that can fully supply current and future charging needs while collecting and storing cheaper power during off-peak to supply an AI revolution. Elon doesn’t care who knows anymore. 2nd place is… crumbs. AWS was built from excess server space needed during peak demand. Now it’s bigger and more valuable than the core Amazon retail business. Tesla is about to drop a hardware smackdown right in the face of software engineers. AI prototypes are easy. Scaling is hard. If only Tesla had a factory pouring out millions of chips each year that are underutilized 95% of the time. Each with their own battery storage. Imagine that. Tesla could call them ‘cars’. And that power moat? It’s all fully upgradable. It’s primed to be tripled. Only a handful of Tesla charging stations currently have solar and/or Megapacks. For 14 years Tesla has permitted and built the gas stations of the future around the world. Everyone said it would fail. All of them were wrong. And now Tesla is in a process of creating a possible 10x value stamp on those stations that should have never been built. It makes you wonder, When a vehicle now leaves the Tesla factory; how do we even begin to calculate the economic production that it will generate during its lifetime? It’s a Robotaxi, energy storage, and a fully sealed/cooled compute processor. They may as well start shitting gold out of a tailpipe.

I FIND GREATER BUSHENYI TO BE INCREDIBLE! KAMPALA SACCOS MAY WANT TO MAKE STUDY TOURS HERE Over this Easter holiday in Bushenyi, I was hoping to find some time to write a more formal piece on law. Instead, as you can see in these clips, Kabagareme, the booming Saturday meat market got in the way. You will never find a better meal, a better price and the extra satisfaction of actually supporting the local people’s “hustle” Deeply satisfying on all fronts. Kabagarame is yet another example of the high levels of civic awareness and organization of the people here. Apart from always being well represented in National since independence, Bushenyi has achieved social-economic transformation through embracing formal education very early on. It’s not uncommon to find families with three generations of university graduates here unlike almost anywhere else in Uganda. Most 50-60 year old Ugandans are one generation removed from peasantry. And, I think that Bushenyi’s case is not the case of the “diploma disease” that afflicts Uganda, generally. There’s a big difference between papers and an education. The former, I hear, you can buy at Nasser road, the latter, you cannot. It must translate in the way you think and live. The people here for example, organized their land holding as early as the 1960s when most land here got surveyed and titled. Elsewhere, land fragmentation, disorder, disputes and violence still block economic progress. Access to credit for example, is much easier when you have titled land. The per capita income here is even by visual estimation only, high. Generally, every household has a combination of any of the following crops; coffee, tea and bananas or all three. They will generally keep at least a few crossbred cows. Each of those is a cash crop in its own right. I have never seen a grass thatched house here. Especially tea factories dot the magically beautiful green hills along with several schools whose performance in the National exam, a National obsession, is among the very best in the country. The stretch between Kyamuhunga and Kasese covering the present day Rubirizi and Bunyarunguru districts is perhaps, the most beautiful part of Uganda. It spots the beautiful magical twin crater lakes of Kyema and Kamweru (“Africa”), the Kazinga channel, lakes Edward and George. One can have the breathtaking, sweeping panoramic views of Queen Elizabeth National park, Mountain Rwenzori, and all aforesaid lakes, atop the West arm of the great East Africa rift valley. There are so many hotels in Bunyaruguru of which Kyangabi Crater Resort has always been my favorite. Although, it has to be said, the views are at King Fisher Lodge. The big revelation to me this holiday however is how well the SACCOS here seem to be doing. I took interest in taking a closer look at upcountry SACCOS from my friend Muhimbise Atiki and Kakande Alex ‘s recent analysis of Y-SAVE’s no dividend in two years situation. From anecdotal evidence, the biggest SACCOS here include Kyamuhunga, Mushanga and Muhame. At least two of these SACCOS have a loan portfolio of ugx. 50BN each! Today, one declared and gave dividends. SACCOS might be the local solution that has been brewing to building local capital. SACCOS might also finally break the back of the trust deficit and therefore high risk that underbelly Uganda borrowing resulting in high interest rates. Kampala SACCOS may, after putting down The Intelligent Investor, need to come here for a practical education. There’s a lot to admire and learn.

Elon Musk just identified the next crisis in AI. It’s not a shortage. It’s an unusable surplus. Musk: “By the end of this year, chip production will outpace the ability to turn chips on.” For three years the world was starved for silicon. Every lab, every government, every company racing to secure the chips that determine who wins the AI era. That bottleneck is ending. A new one is replacing it. Musk: “The chips are going to be piling up and not be able to be turned on.” Billions of dollars of the most advanced AI hardware ever built. Sitting dark. Not because the chips don’t work. Because there isn’t enough electricity to run them. You can’t print a power plant the way you print a chip. The fabrication plants scaled. The grid didn’t. And now the most valuable hardware in history is about to hit a wall that no amount of capital can instantly solve. Compute is about to become abundant. Electricity is about to become the most valuable commodity on earth. Three years obsessing over silicon yields. Physics doesn’t care about your chip architecture if your data center can’t pull enough megawatts. The war isn’t about who can manufacture the most silicon anymore. It’s about who has the raw power to plug it in. Whoever solves energy first doesn’t just win. They own the infrastructure everyone else needs to compete. The losers stack useless chips in warehouses waiting for power that never arrives. We built a trillion dollar engine and forgot the fuel. That’s the AI race right now.

State Minister for Mineral Development Phiona Nyamutoro said the launch demonstrates Government’s commitment to developing the mineral sector under NDP IV. She noted that Yumbe and Zombo are among gold-rich areas in West Nile and urged Euro Gold to comply with the law, create jobs and internships, support communities and progressively move into medium- and large-scale mining. She reaffirmed Government’s resolve to close illegal mining operations and called for improved safety, insurance and healthcare for miners. Euro Gold CEO Ben Feni said the company spent more than two years surveying and exploring the area before securing its mining ground. Its operations cover about 79 square kilometres across West Nile, with Yumbe as its pioneer site. The company targets production of at least 20kg of gold per week and plans to establish a processing plant to strengthen traceability and accountability. “We are going to build our nation,” Feni said. Assimwe Kenneth, CEO of the Uganda Association of Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners, commended Euro Gold and Government for supporting formalisation. He urged communities to keep children in school and out of mining, encouraged the use of PPE and called for accessible insurance schemes for small-scale miners. Tusigwire Julius, Head of the Mineral Police Unit, said the unit, established in 2017, is responsible for combating illegal mining, mineral smuggling, fraud and forced labour. He revealed that more than 15 illegal mining sites have been closed this year, while raising concern over recent deaths in illegal mining sites. Eng. Grace Nakku, from the Office of the Commissioner, Minerals and Energy Department, said responsible mining is key to attracting investment and growing Uganda’s mineral sector. She advised that only people aged 18 and above should enter mining sites and encouraged Euro Gold to scale up while continuing to support artisanal and small-scale miners. The launch reinforces Government’s commitment to a formal, safe, responsible and investment-driven mining sector that creates jobs, supports communities and contributes to Uganda’s economic transformation.
