using MOCAP for player animation in UE5 requires "Generating Root Motion" that can drive the actual player character's locomotion during a runtime cinematic thanks Greg Richardson for the help with this demo in UE 5.6 with a new MetaHuman

@GregoryRich19 UE's root motion vs physics driven movement has been the one area of their animation pipeline that's been behind the curve for years. Really glad they're switching to the new mover.

@GregoryRich19 Hey what was the focal lens you used for that test you did on first person view?

@GregoryRich19 It was a regular camera not Cine, so FOV 100 degrees, slightly wider than 90 the default

@GregoryRich19 Cool! This can be done with any animation?

@GregoryRich19 Why not just loop a blend of animations along a spline?

@GregoryRich19 Is it a manual process to generate root motion for Mocap anim? I never wondered about it until you brought it up!

@GregoryRich19 UE has a built in way of automatically generating the root motion, it’s shown in the first clip after the demo

@GregoryRich19 Looks good. I can’t wait to try these new anim features in 5.6. To get the root motion data on Metahuman, you are baking the pelvis data onto the root of the Target Skeleton using IK Retargeter. Right?

@GregoryRich19 Yeah there is a Generate Root Motion feature with some settings built into IK Retargeter. All of this is possible in Motion Builder and Maya, but it’s nice to do it in the editor for me
