Journalist: My car's mileage was 10 to 11 in city. After E20 petrol, the mileage has been reduced to 7. Nitin Gadkari: You can't calculate avg of your car by yourself. Only a machine can check your avg and only then I will believe that mileage of your car has reduced. I do understand that there are lots of misinformation and fake videos regarding E20 petrol. But Nitin Gadkari's stance that E20 Petrol is not affecting cars is absolutely laughable. Even if I assume that E20 Petrol is not harming E20 compliant cars but what about cars which are only E10 compliant. Nitin Gadkari has no idea about how much people are turning against him. The decision to rush E20 Petrol and impose it on everyone within such a short time is not looking good now.

Mr Gadkari here’s the another example for you!! Sad to see a Defender being towed away! Having driven one, I can say these vehicles are extremely sensitive to fuel quality. Ethanol-blended fuel has only made things worse. Just like EVs suffer from poor charging infrastructure, premium fuel options like Speed and XP100 are almost non-existent in most hilly regions. Even before E20 fuel, Defenders would sometimes develop misfires and odd engine behavior on regular fuel; now the problem is even more noticeable. People spending ₹1.5 crore on a vehicle shouldn’t have to worry about whether the next fuel station will leave their car running properly or stranded on a flatbed. This is the result of poorly planned fuel policies introduced without ensuring proper infrastructure, fuel quality consistency, or real-world testing. Absolutely disappointing that a premium vehicle ends up being towed because the ecosystem around it isn’t ready! 😌

THE E20 DEBATE: FACTS VS HYPOCRISY. HERE'S AN UNDENIABLE FACT: The E20 programme did not begin under the Modi government. Ethanol blending was approved years earlier, during the UPA. The difference is in execution. Blending remained stuck at roughly 1–1.5% for years before accelerating significantly under the NDA. So, let's first get the politics out of the way. If ethanol blending was acceptable in principle then, why is it suddenly portrayed as anti-people now? Now, let's look at the arguments being presented by critics: CRITICS ARGUMENT 1: E20 FUEL IS BEING PUSHED BY NDA TO KEEP SUGAR CANE FARMERS HAPPY. There's no doubt Ethanol is creating an additional income stream for sugarcane farmers. But governments have always handed out subsidies or incentives to farmers. + MSP exists for 23 crops. Sugar cane farmers get SAP or State Advised Price. + Fertiliser subsidies. + Cheap or free electricity. + Irrigation subsidies. + Procurement policies. If these benefits to farmers are accepted as legitimate public policy, why is E20 policy being targeted in isolation for market distortion? CRITICS ARGUMENT 2: ETHANOL PRODUCTION IS WATER CONSUMING. Yes, sugarcane consumes a great deal of water. But so do + Paddy cultivators. Just look at the tumbling water tables in Punjab, Haryana. + AI and data centers. + Semiconductor manufacturing. + Steel and cement production. The question is not whether something uses water, but whether the benefits justify the costs. Again why are critics holding E20 alone to a test that they don't set for others? CRITICS ARGUMENT 3: THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT MAKE E20 MANDATORY. LEAVE IT TO CHOICE. We're in a democracy and choice matters. The difference is in execution. Blending remained stuck at roughly 1–1.5% for years before accelerating significantly under the NDA. So, let's first get the politics out of the way. If ethanol blending was acceptable in principle then, why is it suddenly portrayed as anti-people now? Now, let's look at the arguments being presented by critics: CRITICS ARGUMENT 1: E20 FUEL IS BEING PUSHED BY NDA TO KEEP SUGAR CANE FARMERS HAPPY. There's no doubt Ethanol is creating an additional income stream for sugarcane farmers. But governments have always handed out subsidies or incentives to farmers. + MSP exists for 23 crops. Sugar cane farmers get SAP or State Advised Price. + Fertiliser subsidies. + Cheap or free electricity. + Irrigation subsidies. + Procurement policies. If these benefits to farmers are accepted as legitimate public policy, why is E20 policy being targeted in isolation for market distortion? CRITICS ARGUMENT 2: ETHANOL PRODUCTION IS WATER CONSUMING. Yes, sugarcane consumes a great deal of water. But so do + Paddy cultivators. Just look at the tumbling water tables in Punjab, Haryana. + AI and data centers. + Semiconductor manufacturing. + Steel and cement production. The question is not whether something uses water, but whether the benefits justify the costs. Again why are critics holding E20 alone to a test that they don't set for others? CRITICS ARGUMENT 3: THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT MAKE E20 MANDATORY. LEAVE IT TO CHOICE. We're in a democracy and choice matters.
