I’m using Blender 🔶 and #geometrynodes to visualize clearance boundaries and highlight violations in high voltage PCB designs. The design in this video is a 65W USB-C PD charger using STMicroelectronics #ViperGaN. I’ve shown most of the net classes I created, with Blender I can also include not only the PCB tracks, but also the component bodies when visualizing clearance boundaries and zones. In this design, there is a violation between the electrolytic capacitor casing on the high voltage primary side and the secondary isolated side. This type of violation is generally not detected by PCB design tools as they implement clearance rules in 2 dimensions (X&Y). Due to the large number of different packages of ICs and connectors, it might be better to generate their models as and when needed rather than storing an unlimited number of unique 3D models. You can now use Blender Fasthenry to do PCB layout studies, calculate impedances of loops and return paths and determine how many vias you need! This demo shows how the impedance of DC decoupling capacitor is impacted by its distance from the IC, and the number of vias under the IC and near the capacitor. This is for a two-layer 1.6mm PCB at 1MHz. This video guide will show you to first create geometries and specify ports in #blender3d , export them to openEMS, write a few python scripts, and then using geometry nodes to visualise and animate the results back in Blender. Also developed a basic UI inside Blender to visualise the results and to highlight the inductively coupled objects. This video shows some examples of what can be donw now. First demo shows how you can model the impedance of die bond wires and the coupling to adjacent wires, you make adjustments to their lengths and curvatures and see the results in near-real-time. Ending 2024 with a teardown animation of the ZSWatch, an open-source smart watch project. It's been a busy year where I have learnt alot and improved my skills in animation, modelling, showcasing designs and writing my own scripts. Open source projects and tools provide a fantastics oppurtinity to learn about designing electronics and hardware and to understand some of the key decisions that go behind creating such designs.
