This demo shows how the impedance of DC decoupling capacitor is impacted by its distance from the IC, and the number of vias under the IC and near the capacitor. I’m using Blender 🔶 and #geometrynodes to visualize clearance boundaries and highlight violations in high voltage PCB designs. The design in this video is a 65W USB-C PD charger using STMicroelectronics #ViperGaN. I’ve shown most of the net classes I created, with Blender I can also include not only the PCB tracks, but also the component bodies when visualizing clearance boundaries and zones. In this design, there is a violation between the electrolytic capacitor casing on the high voltage primary side and the secondary isolated side. This type of violation is generally not detected by PCB design tools as they implement clearance rules in 2 dimensions (X&Y).
