Earlier today, Detectives from the Sheriff’s Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) located a known probationer and validated gang member in the Arden area and conducted a vehicle stop. During a search of the vehicle, Deputies located an illegally possessed firearm, narcotics, and a significant amount of cash. The suspect, 36-year-old Luis Garay, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on seven new felony charges. Our Gang Suppression Unit focuses on identifying and targeting violent offenders, removing illegal guns from the street, and making arrests that directly impact public safety. As one of the last full-time gang units in California, their work is a key part of our enforcement efforts. Under the County’s proposed budget cuts, this unit would no longer exist. The impact of that decision would be felt immediately in our neighborhoods, with fewer resources focused on those driving violence in our community.

On April 3, ASTREA responded to a medical emergency on the Pacific Crest Trail near the 84.5‑mile marker. A hiker activated an emergency beacon after becoming injured on a steep section of the trail. The alert was received by California OES, who notified Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and ASTREA. ASTREA crews located the hiker but were unable to land due to the terrain. A Cal Fire paramedic was hoisted down from the Sheriff’s Bell 412 helicopter to provide immediate medical aid. Once stabilized, the hiker was safely hoisted out and transferred to a waiting ambulance crew. This rescue showcases the strength of our partnership with California Governor's Office of Emergency Services , CAL FIRE/San Diego County Fire , Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Sheriff’s Aviation, and local EMS. General Masemola received a full briefing from the NATJOINTS on possible intervention measures that can be immediately implemented. The National Commissioner stated that immediate intervention measures will be implemented such as: ▶ we are enhancing and heightening our crime combating operations to deal decisively with these illegal mining activities… ▶we are deploying more police officers on the ground such as crime intelligence officers, members of the hawks, detectives and tactical units to prevent and combat these illegal mining activities. ▶ We have also established an integrated and multidisciplinary intervention team within the PROVJOINTS AND NATJOINTS to ensure implementation and enforcement of our country’s laws. What is currently happening here, is illegal and detrimental to the environment, including water sources and most importantly, poses a health and imminent safety risk for our communities. This is theft of minerals which belongs to all South Africans and which legally done can contribute to economic growth, community development and decent jobs in the area. It’s important to highlight that only the DMPR can legally issue a permit or license for any mining activity. Today, I’m highlighting the vital work of the Texas DPS Aircraft Operations Division in West Texas as part of Operation Lone Star. These videos show how our aircraft support plays a key role in border security and in assisting federal partners and troopers on the ground. In the first video, 5/21/25, DPS aircraft assisted federal authorities near Santa Teresa after a smuggler in a Can-Am ATV smuggled 3 illegal immigrants, then dropped them off in the desert to avoid capture. The smuggler fled, but with aerial support, he ran out of gas and was arrested by Las Cruces Border Patrol. This footage shows how rugged and remote West Texas can be—and how smugglers try to use that to their advantage. But this smuggler was no match for our aircrews' and agents' teamwork and persistence on the ground. The mission continues. 🇺🇸 #OperationLoneStar

When federal officers sought assistance from the Gresham Police Department, they received the support they needed. In the parking lot, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, equipped with non-lethal pepper ball guns, ensured that a 𝘔𝘪𝘨𝘳𝘢 𝘞𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 vehicle could not leave until the situation was handled. ICE reported the vehicle’s obstruction and disturbance to the local police, who took appropriate action. It’s time to stand with law enforcement and ICE officers who are working tirelessly to uphold the law and protect our communities from those who seek to undermine and disrupt their efforts. VIDEO - AIR SUPPORT UNIT ASSISTS IN ARRESTS FOLLOWING JEWELRY STORE ROBBERY IN RICHMOND HILL Offices responded to a jewelry store robbery in the area of Yonge St and Levendale Rd in Richmond Hill yesterday, shortly after 3:30 p.m. Three suspects were seen using hammers to smash glass cases. A quantity of jewelry was stolen and the suspects fled in a silver SUV driven by a fourth suspect. One employee received minor injuries after being assaulted by one of the suspects. Using out Air Support Unit helicopter, Air2, the vehicle was located in the City of Toronto where the suspects fled but were quickly taken into custody. The vehicle used by the suspects was confirmed to be stolen. Of the four suspects charged, Marlando MITCHELL, 24 of Brampton, and the two youths, were out on a combined 10 release orders at the time of the incident. One of the youths was also on probation. “The teamwork demonstrated by York Regional Police is a testament to the professionalism and commitment our officers have in pursuing individuals who commit violent acts in our communities,” states Police Chief Jim MacSween. “Of the four suspects arrested, one adult and two youths were out on release orders. Today, the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting was held. Our Minister of Defense briefed our partners on Ukraine’s most urgent needs—particularly air defense and the protection of critical infrastructure. The liquidation of the aftermath of the Russian ballistic missile attack on Kryvyi Rih continues all day. There was also a devastating airstrike on Kupiansk, where a guided bomb hit the city center, leaving people trapped under rubble. Tragically, there are casualties. My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected. It is important that all our partners respond more actively to Russian terror. This terror must never become a so-called “new normal” for Europe. We are also working with our partners on front-line supplies—not just weapons and ammunition, but also strength with long-range impact. We continue to insist that decisive action now, including lifting restrictions on long-range strikes for Ukraine, will help us bring this war to a just end for Ukraine and the world as a whole. The protection of life matters equally everywhere. I am grateful to everyone around the world who is helping.

We also expect that our partners will deliver the full package of air defense and other assistance to Ukraine – the very package agreed upon at the NATO summit in Washington this past July. Our Defense Minister has already held a series of meetings in France, the UK, and Germany. We are in constant communication with our American partners and highly value our cooperation with Italy. We are also well-prepared for the upcoming “Ramstein” meeting, which will take place soon. All the agreements we reach with our partners must be implemented as quickly as possible. When decisions are made swiftly, Russia doesn’t have time to adapt, and we achieve especially valuable results. This applies to the protection of our cities and communities from attacks, the support of our soldiers on the frontlines, and the resilience of our country and our people. Moreover, it’s about the resilience of the world—a world that wants to continue living by rules and international law, not by the madness of "putins" and their whims.
