Not Mel Gibson, he’s just the actor. The director is Peter Weir. It’s his film, a good one but not a masterpiece. It repeats the old lie that the Brits let the Aussies die while they stayed safe. In reality the Brits lost more men at Gallipoli than the ANZACS.

Great movie. While all war is brutal, its hard to fathom the absolute futile slaughter ww1 was. Generals fighting a new war w antiquated tactics. Men were just fodder

I never forgot it. Seen the whole thing once. Once was enough. That final frame... They killed hundred of thousands of young men in battles where the arms had outstripped the tactics. They were still using tactics developed during wars 20 years previously where single shot rifles were being used. Then in a 20 year span from 1890 to 1910, there was MASSIVE jump in arms development, artillery, cannonade, and most importantly, the machine gun and rifles consistently able to fire 4 or more shots before reloading, a rate of fire unlike any previous wars ever fought. Bayonet charges over open ground against fixed defensive positions what worked in 1880 and even as late as 1900 in some conflicts...were suicide by 1913. And many of the generals stubbornly did not learn the lesson from the early battles, and kept insisting on sending a generation of youth to straight into the machine guns to certain death.

I'm not a military strategist, but running directly into bullets seems to be a bad idea.

Australians weren't even the biggest contingent at Gallipoli on the Entente side. It was the British, then the French and then the Australians.

Well look here and you’ll see the truth The poms had the lowest casualty per capita rate

A wonderful film, it inspired this Pom to visit the Anzac sites. This is the Nek with its memorial, and of relevance to the film, the view down from here to Suvla Bay where alleged Brit tea-drinking was going on.

I think it was Peter Weir's masterpiece, pally.

Peter Weir directed it, not Mel Gibson. It depicts the Battle of the Nek. Two regiments of Light Horse, the 8th from Victoria and 10th from Western Australia, charging Turkish trenches on a battlefield no bigger than two tennis courts.

Just to make it clear Mel Gibson was just an actor in this movie nothing else.

*Peter Weir, not Gibson.

The Lighthorsemen is better

Great movie. Does justice to the Anzac experience at Gallipoli.

Es un peliculón de Peter Weir. Un genio poco reconocido

How fast are you going to run? as fast as a leopard!

エミュー戦争じゃないのか

The film was directed by Peter Weir.

So wild. I was thinking about this movie 2 days ago about the part where his friend hangs his stopwatch on the trench wall. Sad

My great-grandfather, Lieutenant Denis Lucy, was there with the Enniskillen Fusiliers.

Another of Churchill’s brilliant ideas. Like “The Soft Underbelly of Europe“ shtick.

I heard this was some politically motivated manouevuering by Churchill.

Excelente. Y una banda de sonido espectacular también

They were dubbed the "Dirty Diggers." I am of half Irish extract. I am sure some of my DNA was there that day. And who was it that sent them into that suicide mission? Hmmm...

All for nothing. Now "Australians" are happily surrendering their country to the alien hordes. Curse all traitors.

İngilizlere çalışan avustralya ve yeni zelanda askerlerine yazık oldu, maalesef halada günümüzde onlara çalışıyorlar bağımsızlık karakterleri olmadığı sürece🤔

@drawandstrike The ending is heartbreaking.

It was directed by Peter Weir

Gallipoli has its shortcomings as a film, but it still ranks as one of the best WW1 movies ever made.

Queria assistir!!!!

Waste of life

It made me add a Lee Enfield and Turkish Mauser to my collection.
