Khata-Khat badh gayi mehengai! After not fulfilling the promises of transferring Rs 8500/month to a woman of each family, Congress ruled Karnataka government has saddled the people of Karnataka with the burden of paying Rs 3/litre more for petrol and diesel in the state. After this decision, people of Karnataka would be forced to pay higher amounts for food items, clothing, medicines and all items of basic necessities as fuel prices directly impact prices of all goods. Such a decision just after elections have been concluded, exposes the hypocrisy of the Congress which talks about mehengai but levies approximately Rs 8litre-Rs 12/litre additional VAT in comparison with BJP ruled states. With this hike, petrol in Karnataka is now Rs 8.21/litre more expensive than both BJP-run governments in UP and Gujarat. The price gap is even more staggering if Karnataka is compared with BJP-governed Arunachal Pradesh where the party has come back to power strongly. The petrol prices in Karnataka are over Rs 12/litre higher than in Arunachal. The price gap for diesel is Rs 8.59/litre between the two states with Arunachal being much less expensive. During the last three years of global energy turmoil, the NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi Ji deftly diversified India’s crude oil purchases to ensure that petrol prices actually decreased by about 14% and diesel prices fell by nearly 11% during November 2021 -May 2024 period. During the same period, US saw petrol prices soar 29%, while neighbours Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced severe financial stress due to spike in global crude prices. Additionally, to maintain availability and affordability of transport fuels, Modi government made substantial and timely cut in excise duty in November 2021 and followed it up with another cut in May 2022. The Central govt reduced petrol and diesel prices by ₹5 per litre and ₹10 per litre, respectively, in November 2021. Following up in May 2022, petrol and diesel prices were further cut by ₹8 per litre and ₹6 per litre, respectively. Again on March 14 this year, the OMCs played a vital role in reducing prices further by Rs 2/litre. The BJP-run state governments aligned with the pro-people policies and reduced sales tax on transport fuels to further cut rates for the public and rein in inflationary pressures. For instance, petrol prices in Congress-ruled Telangana is Rs 12.76/litre higher than in UP. The difference in diesels prices between these two states is also significant at Rs 7.89/litre. Psychotherapy is today one of the largest helping professions in the West. The American Psychological Association (APA) counts more than 172,000 members, and the US government counts 204,300 psychologists, 483,500 mental health counselors, and 77,800 marriage and family therapists at work. The share of adults who saw a mental health professional in the past year more than doubled since the beginning of the century, from 10% in 2001 to 24% today. One recent study put the number of adults in outpatient talk therapy at nearly 22 million a year, up from about 16.5 million only three years earlier. In 2012, the American Psychological Association declared psychotherapy “effective and highly cost-effective.” And yet psychological problems and psychiatric disorders keep rising. Depression among Americans aged 12 and older rose 60 percent over the last decade, from 8.2 percent in 2013 and 2014 to 13.1 percent in 2021 to 2023. The share of adults ever diagnosed with depression is today an astonishing 30%, almost ten points above its 2015 reading. A 2016 study in Pediatrics tracked the share of adolescents reporting a major depressive episode rising from 8.7 percent in 2005 to 11.3 percent in 2014. A 2024 study of 1.7 million young people found clinical depression up about 60 percent and anxiety up 31 percent in only four years. “Endless psychotherapy is a waste of time and money at best, and harmful at worst,” writes psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert in a new book, Therapy Nation. I spoke to Alpert last week, and our conversation follows the video above. Of course, mental distress was rising before the creation of psychotherapy, and psychotherapy can produce real benefits, particularly for specific conditions. In the late 19th Century, a neurologist chronicled an epidemic of nervous collapse he named neurasthenia, marked by fatigue, anxiety, and depressed mood in an 1881 book. The French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot reported that anxious neurasthenics made up the bulk of his own private practice. And a skilled therapist can ease a particular patient’s anxiety and even lift an episode of depression. Millions of people say, and have shown, that psychotherapy has helped them. But the fact remains that psychotherapy grew in popularity over the same periods of time that people have reported worsening mental health. This is true not just over the last 120 years but also over the last 20 to 35 years. The rate of depression among adults under 30 more than doubled, from 13% in 2017 to 28% in 2026. Anxiety disorders among people aged 10 to 24 rose 52 percent globally between 1990 and 2021. If psychotherapy is, as APA says, “effective,” it’s either, at best, not effective enough or, at worst, contributing to the problem. And there is evidence that psychotherapy often makes things worse. A 2006 study of 1,868 individuals found that people who received less psychotherapy achieved greater “reliable and clinically significant improvement” than those who received more. While this could simply represent the reality that people with worse mental distress require less counseling than those who do, it could also mean that psychotherapy worsens mental health. Through the 1980s and 1990s, recovered memory therapy persuaded thousands of patients, often young women, that they had survived childhood sexual abuse that never happened, resulting in false accusations. A Houston jury awarded one woman nearly $5.8 million in 1997 after therapists implanted false memories. By one estimate, more than 50,000 American therapists accepted the theory of repressed memory uncritically. And large studies challenge the credibility of the entire field of psychotherapy. A 2018 review estimated that 5 to 20 percent of psychotherapy patients suffer adverse events, including new or worsening symptoms. A 2024 reanalysis of youth depression trials concluded that about one in five young patients got worse during active treatment. Nobody knows Henry Cuellar better than Donald J. Trump. I studied his records, learned about his financing, and listened to his two wonderful daughters beg me to help the mother and father that they love. Their letters were heart wrenching and beautiful, but their father had problems that nobody could solve but me, and the daughters very correctly and respectfully knew that. He and his wife were headed to jail for up to 20 years because he was “stupid” in what he did but, above all, because the Biden Administration practiced Political Weaponization on Cuellar and his wife because they didn’t agree with his policies on the Southern Border. He was a weak and incompetent version of me, who wanted the Border closed to criminals, drug dealers, people from mental institutions and, above all, murderers and heavy handed criminals that were sitting in jails and mental institutions, and should never have been given the right to be released into our Country. Henry’s views on these subjects were not strong, but they were better than other Democrats. Biden and his crew of Radical Left Thugs did not like those things about Cuellar, and they worked hard, and expected to put him in jail for the rest of his life. Being an expert on Political Weaponization, based on what the Biden Losers had done to me, and without having ever met Henry Cuellar, and in particular because of the magnificence of the letter drawn by his daughters asking me to help “Mom and Dad,” I gave him and Mrs. Cuellar a full and unconditional Pardon. In doing so, I never assumed he would be running for Office again, and certainly not as a Democrat, who essentially destroyed his life even with the Pardon given, but he did, and now, despite doing him by far the greatest favor of his life, 20 years of FREEDOM, I am fighting him for his seat in Congress because his views are not nearly as good or strong as Judge Tano Tijerina, who is much more powerful on the Border issue, cutting Taxes, our Military, and just about everything else than is Henry Cuellar.
