Your 66 book canon is a 19th century invention, it was not apostolic at all. So when you say to appeal to “Scripture alone” i say which Scripture? and who had the authority to determine it? I’ll tell you who, The British & Foreign Bible Society in 1830, for money saving purposes. Sad. Sola Scriptura is not taught in Scripture. No verse states “Scripture alone” or “all souls are subject to the scriptures alone” no verbiage like this exists in the Bible. Protestants cannot produce a single biblical passage that clearly teaches Sola Scriptura alone excluding oral tradition. In fact the Bible repeatedly teaches to hold fast to oral apostolic tradition.

Ask a Protestant what the “pillar and foundation of the truth” is and you’ll probably hear: the Bible. But 1 Timothy 3:15 says it’s “the Church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.” Christ entrusted His teaching to the Apostles. Through that apostolic Church, Sacred Tradition was preserved and Scripture was handed down to us. You can reject the Catholic Church, but you can’t pretend the Bible appeared independently of the Church that preserved it.

This is what I mean by “hyper charismatics don’t believe in sola scriptura.” Listen to my old pastor. ⬇️ ❌ “There’s certain things in [the bible] that you will never lay hold of unless it comes from the mouth of an apostle, prophet, evangelists, pastor, and teacher.” They reject the idea that scripture is CLEAR and end up placing “the anointed” in authority over it. It’s the same way of thinking as RCC and EO, just in a different charismatic flavor.

This is my facsimile copy of Codex Sinaiticus, the first few major codices like the original this is a photocopy of, are our very first versions of what we today would consider a Genesis to Revelation copy of the Bible. Codex Sinaiticus took upwards of nearly 400 sheep to make and would have cost the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars in today’s currency. By the 4th century when this was made, the perspective would have been that this contained the scripture more than that it was scripture. All of these major early codices operated as mini ancient libraries. And all of our earliest examples of them: whether that’s Codex Sinaiticus, Alexandrinus, Vaticanus, Washingtonianus, etc., have Christian books included within the contents of their covers that we today don’t consider scripture. So it is completely incorrect to claim that early church inclusion in a codex equates to scriptural reception. That’s just not true unless you’re willing to argue books like 4th Maccabees, The Shephered of Hermas, Epistle of Barnabas, and 1st Clement and 2nd Clement, that no church today accepts as scripture, should be included within your Bible. This is my facsimile copy of Codex Sinaiticus, the first few major codices like the original this is a photocopy of, are our very first versions of what we today would consider a Genesis to Revelation copy of the Bible. Codex Sinaiticus took upwards of nearly 400 sheep to make and would have cost the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars in today’s currency. By the 4th century when this was made, the perspective would have been that this contained the scripture more than that it was scripture. All of these major early codices operated as mini ancient libraries. And all of our earliest examples of them: whether that’s Codex Sinaiticus, Alexandrinus, Vaticanus, Washingtonianus, etc., have Christian books included within the contents of their covers that we today don’t consider scripture. So it is completely incorrect to claim that early church inclusion in a codex equates to scriptural reception. That’s just not true unless you’re willing to argue books like 4th Maccabees, The Shephered of Hermas, Epistle of Barnabas, and 1st Clement and 2nd Clement, that no church today accepts as scripture, should be included within your Bible. If you are a Christian and not a Catholic, then that is a big problem, and I genuinely feel sad for you. One of the things I love Fr. Beard for is how he says things with authority. He doesn't mince his words, especially when it comes to the doctrines of the church. Anyone who rejects the Eucharist has rejected Jesus and will not go to Heaven. Jesus said this himself in simple words.
