🔵 UPDATE 🔵 A woman is recovering following an altercation that occurred last week in the northwest community of Edgemont, which resulted in the death of 1 man. 📍 At approx. 4:15 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, we were called to the 0 to 100 block of Edgemont Court N.W., for reports of an altercation inside a residence. Upon arrival, police located a man in his 40s in medical distress, as well as a woman in her 30s who had sustained injuries. The man was pronounced deceased on scene & the woman was transported to hospital in stable condition. A witness was also located at the scene who was uninjured. After a thorough investigation, police believe that the man had lured the woman to the residence under a false pretence of a property showing. While in the residence, the man attacked the woman without provocation. An altercation ensued, which resulted in the death of the man. The woman was able to escape the residence & get the attention of neighbours, who called 911. The man & woman were not involved in a domestic relationship. An autopsy was conducted today, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, by The Office of the Chief Medical, which identified the man as 48-year-old Shahbaz AHMED. As investigators have determined that the woman was acting in self-defence, AHMED’s death has been deemed a non-culpable homicide & no charges will be laid in this incident. “An incident of this nature is extremely rare & deeply unsettling for the victim, her family & all Calgarians,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Scott Guterson of the CPS Homicide Unit. “The victim’s actions undoubtedly saved her life & our thoughts are with her as she continues to recover.” To protect the privacy of the victim, no further details will be released. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police by calling the non-emergency number. Information? ☎️ CPS: 403-266-1234 🛑 Crime Stoppers YYC ⚖ Case #: CA26012942 | 4786 🌐

🔵 3 officers charged with criminal offences involving sexual misconduct 🔵 3 serving officers of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) have been charged in relation to 2 separate, but linked investigations. These investigations were carried out by the CPS with oversight by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) & involve allegations of sexual misconduct. The investigation began in January 2025. It is alleged that an officer met women during the course of his duties & had, or attempted to have, personal & sexual contact with them, both on & off duty. Const. Adam McBride, has been charged with 4 counts of breach of trust under the Criminal Code of Canada. 📌 Const. McBride, a 14-year member, was relieved from duty without pay & effective Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, is no longer an employee of the CPS. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026. 📌 It is alleged that another officer was aware of & encouraged, or facilitated, the alleged conduct of Const. McBride. Const. David Harms has been charged with 2 counts of breach of trust under the Criminal Code of Canada. He is a 17-year member & was relieved from duty without pay. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026. 📌 During the investigation, direct messages were uncovered where a photo of a partially naked woman was shared without consent. Const. Tyler Hobberstad has been charged with 1 count of breach of trust & 1 count of distribution of an intimate image under the Criminal Code of Canada. He is a 6-year member & was relieved from duty without pay. He will next appear in court on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026. We recognize a power imbalance exists between police officers & members of the public. Anyone who believes they have received inappropriate contact of a personal nature by a police officer is strongly encouraged to report such circumstances to the Professional Standards Section, or as of Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, to the new Police Review Commission. ℹ️ The Professional Standards Section can be reached by phone at 403-428-5904, or by filing an online report through the PSS portal: ⚖️ Case #: CA25120746 / CA25362181 | 5464 🌐
