Middle infielders: I’m a believer in taking the throw... from in-front of the bag on a stolen-base attempt. The main reason why: Catchers aren’t always going to put the ball on the bag. A common miss is arm side, causing the throw to tail towards first base. When you're in-front, you have freedom to move toward a bad throw without the runner sliding underneath or into you. You can catch it, make the tag, and potentially keep a bad throw from getting into center field. If you straddle the bag, your range can become limited once the runner starts sliding in. In order to do this, you must LET THE BALL TRAVEL Don't reach out, catch it early, and then bring your glove back to the runner. You're wasting valuable time. Let the ball travel over the bag and make a quick tag. If he's out → quick tag If he's safe → tag and HOLD IT. Give him a chance to come off the bag. A name to keep an eye on for the... #Yankees is Reds LHP Nick Lodolo. When comparing to MacKenzie Gore, Lodolo has a superior GB%, BB%, same yrs of control, same age & figures to cost less due to Gore’s strong K%. And while Gore provides a similar look as Fried & Rodon (all same arm angle 44-46 degrees), Lodolo is closer to Sale’s extreme arm angle (15 degrees). NYY could likely get more out of his K% given their track record of velo gains and Lodolo’s strong whiff and chase rates. Cincy’s SP depth is fantastic, while they are projected for the 5th lowest OF WAR in MLB. A trade around Dominguez/Jones makes sense.show more

Some nice changes here with one of my students... We've basically been working on keeping the club more in front of the body during the backswing In the "Before", you can see he gets the club a little flat at lead arm parallel (P3), & the arms are really deep. This created a lot of over draws from a ball flight perspective So we worked on getting the takeaway feeling more outside & trying to hinge the club as vertical as he can at lead arm parallel (P3) This has helped him keep the club more in front of him. One of the best ways to hit the ball... straighter is by focusing on the extension of your right arm through the strike. When the trail arm straightens, it delivers the club squarely and helps your body release its stored energy in the right direction. Too many golfers collapse the right arm early or “chicken wing” the left, which causes pulls, slices, and inconsistency. Instead, think of the right arm extending down the target line after impact—just like Hogan, Snead, and so many classic swingers did. That extension keeps the clubface square, compresses the ball, and sends it flying on a rope. Work on this move and you’ll be amazed how much straighter your shots become.show more

Ben Hogan’s left arm got closer to his chest... as he turned through the shot. Instinctually, a lot of golfers “chicken wing” because they think they can hit the ball harder. But that’s not how serious compression is created. Pull in as you turn the corner, and keep that upper left arm tied to the chest. That’s where the speed, control, and compression come together.
