When Derek first came up to the majors, he reminded me of Paul Molitor, another right-handed batter who would stay back on the ball and drive it to right field. Both are now in the Hall of Fame! I wonder why we don't see many other players trying to emulate that approach.

“I looked for 1 pitch every at bat, fastball right down the middle, that’s it.” Derek Jeter This was my approach as well. Look fastball and adjust to the off speed. I think many of today’s MLB hitters are guessing more frequently and trying to do damage because that’s what the analytics guys are wanting them to do. IMO this is the main reason for the low batting averages and high strikeout numbers. Tee on the inside half. Hit it back up the middle. I’d do this drill a lot to groom my bat path to be short & inside the baseball. If you can consistently be inside the baseball it will allow you to trust your self to let the baseball travel deep towards the plate before you make a decision to swing. When you can let the ball travel deeper to make a decision to swing you swing at better pitches…. When you swing at better pitches & track the ball longer you square up more baseballs…. Square up more baseballs get more hits! Hitters University

Every single pitcher has to do this to throw the ball. Once there hand breaks every pitchers time to plate is close in timing.
