It looks like it’s checking for the larger openings within the mesh… If that’s the case it must have not only some sensory input from membrane deformations - in which case Gaussian curvature might be one of the main driving factors affecting “decision” - but also performing some sort of low-level computation to direct cytoskeletal remodelling?
