Looks good, but you can see that the ambient lighting is quite flat. But is it worth spending 10x GPU cycles to get it slightly better?

Ray tracing isnt the issue. Art direction is.

Men used to go to war!!!! Now we talk about Ray tracing… 🤪

yes, look at that detail

I still don't know what Ray tracing is and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Ray tracing was a scam to sell more NVIDIA cards and we all fell for it.

The only people who moan about RT and PT are those without the hardware to benefit from it.

Raytracing was a thing when you were still in your daddies nutsack

OLED with true HDR capabilities have done more to enhance visual fidelity in the last 2 years than NGREEDIA over the past decade with their stupid Raytracing Way cheaper too than buying a 3500$ GPU

And graphics look better now…

Developer engines. Nowdays, everything runs on Unreal Engine and it runs like shit. Optimization and patches come from Epic before the devs who used their proprietary engine.

The games used to be more fun when no one cared about the graphics

And this scene would be even more insane with Ray Tracing 👀

Saying it for years. Morons crying for 8k 240fps and RT in everything are the reason this gen sucks so hard. So sad that they always have to listen to the loud minority

what game is this one? this looks good

It took way longer to make them. The lighting was baked in the texture. You didnt get changing times of the day either. It was a perpetual afternoon.

And nobody gave a shit about lightning and shadows. Now it's "the lightning and shadows are better with ray tracing" yeah and it make the game look like shit and unplayable

"BUT RAYTRACING IS THE NEW THING AND I SPENT $4,000 ON THIS NEW NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARRRRRRD"

Bf1 was the last truly great Battlefield game

Took longer to make. It’s the same as how back in the day if you seen reflections in water on the ground the devs actually built an upside down version of the area you were in and added a water filter on the ground to appear like a reflection

When single player games was actually exciting to play .

There is nothing more luxurious than Rockstar games🤍

I've turned ray tracing on in many of my games, and the only things I honestly notice when I'm running around shooting stuff and jumping on platforms and whatnot... is the crappy framerate. Nothing else visually looks all that different. Or if it does, I'm to busy to notice.

That's because hardware ray-tracing didn't revolutionize graphics so to speak, it only made it easier to implement realistic lighting at the expense of losing half the frames.

To me, it is good enought, will keep playing "old games" (prior to 2023) while hardware prices keep exploding

...and didn't have 10ms render lag

Downside is that everything had to be scripted to work with the lighting systems. If you play those games today, they'll usually look good but feel "old" due to everything being so static. Modern day lighting systems make art direction more difficult, because everything tends to>

And it was good enough.

Peak FPS. Battlefield 1.

Yes, this game runs great because its low poly. All games have this option. You just have to turn it on. You dont have to run them maxed out.

This game had Ray tracing and it appears to be switched on here btw 👍

Ray tracing is the worst thing ever invented in gaming

I think it’s pretty remarkable how good studios got at faking lighting with rasterized techniques. Ray tracing is for sure more accurate but also more demanding so you’re forced to use upscalers which is a hit to image quality.

Ray tracing in games is like megapix8el in smartphones. More does not mean it's better.
