In 2013 and 2014, we were blending about one and a half percent ethanol in gasoline. And this programme was targeted to have 20% blending, which is E20, completed in December 25, five years ahead of the target. This programme, the ethanol blending programme, particularly in 2018, was in a structured manner, put out for discussion and deliberation by all stakeholders. The E20 rollout has followed a clearly communicated policy roadmap. Parliament replies, technical notifications, press conferences and public interviews have consistently explained the rationale and implementation framework. From April 1, RON 95 has been mandated as the minimum octane rating for E20 petrol. Since ethanol has an octane rating of around 108 RON, blending improves knock resistance and supports the requirements of modern engines. Concerns around mileage deserve informed discussion, but the policy direction, technical basis and rollout framework have remained transparent and publicly available.
