Ocarina of Time, running natively on iOS and iPadOS for the first time. Not an emulator. Ship of Harkinian has run on Windows, Linux, macOS, Switch, Wii U, and Android. Never iOS. Now it runs on iPad, with iPhone in the build too. The game was decompiled to C and rebuilt as a native ARM64 app rendering through Metal. No N64 hardware being simulated, no ROM interpreted at runtime, no streaming from a Mac. It isn't stuck at the N64's 240p and 20fps. Widescreen, full resolution, 60fps. This game deserves a controller, so controller support is native. Pair a Bluetooth controller and play the whole thing. Touch, keyboard, and mouse work too. I used Codex 5.6 Sol to build the iOS layer. Open sourcing it all below.

Nintendo64 controllers can work on GameCube with just a connector swap. I hacked swiss-gc to support it, but beyond that it’s up to the actual game to support it. So far I’ve not found any with undocumented support. But imagine what could have been if Nintendo made a $1 straight wire cable.

Super Smash Bros. 64, running natively on iOS and iPadOS for the first time. Not an emulator. I got an MD test cart for Earthion and recorded a quick video. We’re currently testing several different carts. This cart is for the Spanish-exclusive version. Because Earthion uses a large ROM and a custom cartridge design, testing still needs a bit more time. In the meantime, enjoy seeing it running on a real MD! Stay tuned!

Crazy experience hooking my laptop up to my tv via HDMI and playing a browser-based Three.js game made with AI in a few days with my wireless PS5 controller... Imagine if you can dream up any map on zombies (or any game/world) and play split screen with your friends from your couch using controllers on a Three.js game that runs in the browser… a little input lag on controller movement, but exciting to see where this space can go!

Nintendo had a plan to build a CD-ROM adapter for SuperFamicom. Sony suggested it and it almost came out like that picture. But Nintendo overturned the project and Sony developed a prototype. A few years ago, I built a prototype with a real PlayStation 1 based on that picture.

MaskPad is built on Harbour Masters’ 2 Ship 2 Harkinian, itself built from the community Majora’s Mask decompilation. Animal Crossing running natively on macOS, iPhone, and iPad for the first time. Not emulated. The original Animal Crossing for GameCube rebuilt as a native Apple Silicon source port. ACreTeam decompiled the game. The ACGC-PC-Port contributors got it running as native code. Encounter built Aurora, the generic graphics and platform foundation that can render GameCube-style games through Metal. Codex 5.6 Sol used that foundation to get the actual Animal Crossing game running through Metal, then built Bellpad around it: the Apple Silicon migration, macOS app, iPhone and iPad app, Files import, touch controls, controller support, save import/export, native text entry, and the IPA pipeline.
