Christian Bale won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Fighter & while I don’t really love this film, I love this performance. In fact, the entire film is worth watching because of multiple performances from a loaded cast. But Bale is truly at his best here.

Jeremy Strong’s performance in The Apprentice should’ve won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor & this is not revisionist history, my friends, I said he deserved it months ago. This performance was stunning? Strong’s unraveling as Roy Cohn was shocking. What an actor.

It's tragic that the man most responsible for how gorgeous this movie looks, Douglas Trumbull, didn't get the recognition. The movie won an Oscar but it was given to Kubrick (the only one in his career). Trumbull was nominated three more times but never won a competetive Oscar.

Michael Clarke Duncan earned an #Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding work in The Green Mile. I never really write about this film- I should change that. This is such a great late ‘90s movie with a vintage Tom Hanks performance. Great, great film.

Michael Douglas’s legacy has to include mention of his work as a producer on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Douglas co-produced & won an Oscar for Best Picture for what turned out to be one of the most important movies in modern film. Douglas is way more than just an actor.

It doesn’t sit right with me that Philip Seymour Hoffman didn’t win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for The Master. Christoph Waltz was flawless in Django, but his performance in Django is cut from a similar cloth as Inglourious Basterds- and not as good. PSH in The Master is a once-in-a-lifetime performance. He should’ve won the Oscar for that exact reason.

Gary Oldman won his only Oscar in 2018 for his performance as Winston Churchill in The Darkest Hour. A lot of you seem to be really comfortable shitting on this performance or pretending like it wasn’t worthy of an Oscar. Oldman is utterly excellent in this film- a masterclass.

Denzel Washington’s performance in Philadelphia reminds me of Tom Cruise’s performance in Rain Man. Both played second fiddle to a man who won Best Actor & neither received the praise they deserved for their supporting roles. Hanks is great here, but Denzel is this film’s glue.

Denzel Washington’s Oscar-nominated performance in Flight has to be at the top of the list when ranking Denzel’s best work. Had he not run into Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, Denzel would’ve undeniably won a second Oscar for Best Actor. Denzel is unhinged here- he’s just totally off the rails & his performance has so much range. This guy is just totally unpredictable as an actor & I cannot get enough. I love Flight.

Daniel Kaluuya is arguably the best actor of his (my) generation. Kaluuya is as good as any actor in the world south of 40. I’ve always felt that COVID overshadowed his Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor for Judas & The Black Messiah. This is an all-time great performance.

Timothée Chalamet deserved a second-straight Best Actor Oscar nomination for Beautiful Boy. Chalamet is outstanding in this film and brings to life the pain addiction causes. This is a really sophisticated performance for a young actor. I still don’t know why he was snubbed.

The Game might not be considered Peak David Fincher by most, but the more I revisit this film, the more my love for it grows. This scene in particular, between Sean Penn & Michael Douglas, is one of my favorites in the entire film. Penn, Douglas, & Fincher are all at their best.

Jack Nicholson beat out Robert Duvall for the #Oscar for Best Actor when Jack won his 3rd Academy Award for As Good As It Gets. This was a loaded Best Actor race that included Dustin Hoffman, Matt Damon & Jack’s old pal Peter Fonda. I’m glad Jack won, but what a field of actors.
