Stable 60+ FPS in Three.js — finally. The world renders 149 chunks around the player, while distant terrain is blended into a lightweight placeholder mesh for performance. Move around, and the chunks + fake terrain smoothly fade between each other without killing FPS. World models are instanced too, keeping draw calls low. Always been annoyed that nanite displacement is relative to the scale of the mesh, so I fixed it! The scene has a world aligned material where the displacement is static regardless of mesh scale. This engine change allows me to have different scales on the meshes without any issues. The meshes are then blended with MeshBlend to make it look like one surface. Cobblestone is always a favorite for testing displacement 😄 #gamedev Unreal Engine

Okay, UE 5.8 New MetaHuman is actually GOOD. I just tested the full pipeline with a completely custom AI generated character — styled with custom proportions, custom accessories. Generated mesh → MetaHuman → extracted mesh → rebaked / AI retextured → auto-weighted accessories → animation. 1-2h max. It works way better than I expected. Will drop full YouTube tutorial coming in a few days, busy editing😅 #ue58 #3dai #metahuman

The Fondant Custom Normals Blender addon is being tested, and we're aiming for a 1.0 release next week! The first feature is the Weighted Normals + Laplacian Smoothing Geometry Nodes modifier. This let's you calculate Normals that are as clean as a nice quad mesh even if your topology is a mess and triangulated! We'll be following up with more tools to support creating high quality Normals for 3D anime and vtuber characters. We have an optimized adjustable Face Normal Transfer proxy mesh nearly ready to go. Indiedev day 79: retro wireframe renderer with trackball functionality! As someone noted, my retro UI was missing rotating wireframes, I added one! In the drone loaout screen you can now see a very low poly version of the drone in proper retro fashion! I created a cross platform wireframe renderer and trackball funcionality to interact with the mesh. For fun I also made a world space position floor function for the mesh vertexes so that the mesh jitters a bit when it rotates, mimicking the unstable 3D geometry from games in the 80s and before. The UI is still completely unfinished, but I decided to post the cool wireframe feature as I just finished it today. #indiegame #buildinpublic

This lightweight steel wire mesh, stiff with threaded rods, rolled out easily for transport by ship or truck while requiring minimal site prep and far less steel than heavier alternatives, and its open design blended better with grass or terrain for reduced visibility from the air. It enabled all-weather ops on soft surfaces, quick repairs by swapping sections, and full reusability after lifting for new sites. Factories produced miles weekly to support rapid advances like the Second Front. 🫡
