Current progress: • Main menu boots • World loads • Some blocks, like beds, render correctly • Basic rendering pipeline appears functional The biggest issue now seems to be texture handling. The PS5's texture memory still isn't being translated correctly into Vulkan images, causing most textures to break. Another day, another odd and old-school technical issue in #Nioh3. This game doesn’t just expect the frame rate to hit its FPS cap to work properly, it also wants the FPS to line up with the display refresh rate. Using the 60 fps cap at 120Hz (or higher) can result in lots of frame-time spikes and microstuttering. the only way to avoid this is to switch the refresh rate to 60 Hz, which gives a much smoother frame time graph. Frame Generation on top of a 60 FPS base at 120 Hz works flawlessly without any frame time issues.

Today's progress: - 60+ on the counter driving through the full city. - world partition is in, the whole city streams around you instead of loading all at once. now I'm bringing the graphics quality back up while holding the 60. The new stealth model on OpenRouter Union Alpha is an OpenAI model. And here's why. I gave it my standard shooter prompt and got this FPS. I've built around a dozen games with GPT-6 Astra by now. I can spot its style from a mile away. Just look at the menu. The huge title, orange button with that same arrow, tiny labels over a dark 3D scene. Ive seen this menu so many times already. In my previous post about the #Nioh3 demo, I mentioned that when the game isn’t consistently holding 60 FPS or 120 FPS, several issues can show up. Here’s a clearer breakdown of what's going on. The main reason is that the game speed and physics are tied to the frame rate. When you enable the 120 FPS cap, the engine start overreacting and pushes CPU usage very high, even if the game is still running at around 60 FPS (as shown in the first example). In the second clip, you can see the uneven, jittery camera movement I mentioned before. Notice how much smoother 60 FPS and 120 FPS look compared to the unlocked side. Also, camera movement at 60 FPS is slightly faster than at 120 FPS. In the third clip, player movement is slower when the frame rate is unlocked. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it shows up often enough to be noticeable. Because of how the Katana Engine behaves, the game is clearly designed around 60 FPS. Running at 120 FPS is possible, but it’s only recommended if your system can maintain that target almost all the time, which isn’t easy to achieve. There’s also an alternative workaround where you select the 60 (locked) option and enable Frame Generation (DLSS or FSR 3), as shown in the last clip. The downside is that DLSS Frame Generation tends to show the same stuttery look as when the frame rate isn’t holding a fixed target, likely due to Reflex keeping the frame rate slightly below target. FSR Frame Generation, on the other hand, looks much smoother and works better here.

Every time I think the ESP32-S3 has hit its limit, someone finds another gear. This open-source Jet renderer is now pushing the S3 even harder. Real-time screen-space reflections, water ripple distortion, lens flare and 8 ships on screen, all running on a tiny MCU. Performance dropped from around 60 FPS to 45–50 FPS, but that's still wild for an ESP32-S3. And the developer thinks there is more performance left to squeeze out. No GPU. No desktop CPU. Just an ESP32-S3 doing real-time 3D graphics.

When I saw that Assassin's Creed Unity was getting a 60 FPS update for current gen consoles, I honestly could not wait to see it with my own eyes. And after playing it, I realized it is not just 60 FPS. The game also seems to be upscaled to 4K, which is absolutely insane in my opinion and the game runs incredibly smooth! Many of you know that I have never been the biggest fan of Unity. But I have to admit, maybe it is just placebo, yet it genuinely feels like the game plays better. Almost like the controller responds more precisely to what I actually want to do. I tested it properly in stealth and of course in parkour, and I have to say, it feels amazing! For PC players this might not be anything special. But for someone like me, mainly playing on console, finally being able to experience Assassin’s Creed Unity at 60 FPS is a game changer. And by the way, co op also seems to be working normally again. This is honestly crazy to see!

karpathy just admitted that his own app got oneshotted and he thinks yours is next. he built menu gen. you take a photo of a restaurant menu and it shows you pictures of what the food actually looks like (because 30-50% of menu items you genuinely have no clue what they are) he vibe coded the whole thing: photo upload → ocr extracts item names → image model generates a picture for each dish → app re-renders the menu with photos next to every item → deployed on vercel but then someone showed him the "software 3.0" version: 1. take the same photo. 2. give it to gemini. 3. say "overlay pictures of each dish onto the menu" gemini returned the original menu photo with food images rendered directly into the pixels just 1 prompt and his entire app became entirely unnecessary here's karpathy's way to test if you're still stuck building in old paradigm: 1. take away all the code in your app. 2. give the raw input directly to an llm. is the output roughly the same? if yes, your code is just adding steps between the input and the output. karpathy thinks the apps that survive are the ones where the code does something the model genuinely can't: > persisting state across users > enforcing access controls > processing payments > connecting to hardware he calls anything else outdated "software 1.0 thinking." the question to ask yourself before you build anything right now: is this an app, or is it just a prompt with extra steps? you simply won't win if your answer is the latter

On PS5, however, it looks like the game is rendering at or near 2560×1440 internally and then upscaling to 4K. If that's true, it's an extremely demanding target for a base PS5. • Is This Fixable? Yes. If the game is indeed using such a high internal resolution, lowering it and using better reconstruction or dynamic resolution scaling could significantly improve performance. Running at such a high internal resolution on a base PS5 doesn't make much sense, and the game has suffered from performance issues for nearly 12 months. • Final Thoughts Kuro Games needs to address this. At this point, we can't keep blaming players, their hardware, or the engine. If the high internal resolution is the cause, it should be adjusted. So the look is done. Menu → load → you're in. it boots like a real AAA game. We've been building in Godot the whole way, it's starting to show its limits on the AAA stuff. So this week I'm going to go test Unity to see if we can get the actual game into AAA stuff as well. That's the part nobody measures. Every "best engine" take is about how it looks. For a game built by a loop of agents, the only question that matters is which one they can read, edit, and push on their own. Godot's good at that. Unity might be better, with way more assets off the market. I'm going to find out. Agents still looping. Fable will be back soon! I'll report back which engine they build faster in.

I tested Rust vs Javascript for games 🎮 I had this question recently and decided to port my Three.js game to Rust Desktop I'm still not able to reproduce the same look on both games but I believe that codewise they are very similar With both games running, the Rust version averages 37FPS while the Three.js version averages around 20FPS If I'm running one game at a time the FPS goes up considerably (60 FPS on both with power on) So the Rust version for Desktop has 85% increase in performance on my Macbook Pro M4 This comparision is basically comparing Browser vs Native, which is not completely fair So that's why I want to port the Rust version to WASM on the browser and benchmark again soon
