Sebaashray stands as a sanctuary of care for those who often remain unseen, the vulnerable, the elderly, and the marginalised. At its core lies a simple yet profound commitment to heal with dignity, to restore not just health but the quality of life itself. In a poignant expression of a governance model that places compassion at the centre of public service, 13 elderly residents of Maheshtala underwent successful cataract surgeries at the Renuka Eye Institute. For them, Sebaashray meant the return of sight, independence, and confidence in everyday life. By ensuring timely, accessible, and humane care, #Sebaashray2 continues to reaffirm that healthcare must reach those who need it most, without barriers, without hesitation, and without fear.

Sebaashray represents a solemn and unflinching commitment to the health, dignity, and well-being of every resident of Diamond Harbour. In Satgachia, we have had the privilege of providing free spectacles to 2,248 individuals, restoring not merely their vision but also their confidence, independence, and hope for the future. Eyes are far more than instruments of sight, they are windows to opportunity, clarity, and a brighter tomorrow. Through this initiative, we empower our people to embrace life with renewed optimism and self-respect. Sebaashray remains steadfast in its mission to deliver accessible, compassionate, and meaningful healthcare to every citizen in need, ensuring that no one is left behind.

In Diamond Harbour, though this chapter of Sebaashray has come to an end, our sacred mission of healing presses onward with unyielding resolve. It moves me deeply to share that, from our health camps in Diamond Harbour, we have referred 11 citizens to the Renuka Eye Institute, where they underwent life-changing cataract surgeries. Emerging from the shadows of age's veil, they now embrace the world with renewed clarity, their eyes alight with boundless gratitude and the exhilaration of rebirth. Each story is a poignant reminder of the power of compassion to restore not just sight, but hope itself. Our pledge to good health for every soul remains etched in stone, an unbreakable vow to uplift, to heal, and to unite. Together, let us carry this mission forward, illuminating Bengal's path with empathy and equity.

For those who cannot wait, cannot afford, and cannot navigate complex systems, Sebaashray 2 becomes their outstretched hand for help. In Maheshtala, fourteen people were living with failing eyesight not because treatment was impossible, but because access was. Cataract blindness creeps in slowly, first as discomfort, then as dependence, until everyday life itself becomes a struggle. For many, hospitals feel distant, procedures intimidating, and costs paralysing. Vision loss, in such cases, becomes silently accepted as fate. Sebaashray exists to interrupt that resignation. The patient's were taken to Renuka Eye Hospital, where cataract surgeries were carried out with precision and care. Fourteen surgeries may not make headlines. But for fourteen households in Maheshtala, it changed how tomorrow looks, literally and profoundly.

Some initiatives leave behind statistics. Others leave behind a LEGACY. #Sebaashray belongs to the latter. Even though the initiative has officially drawn to a close, its essence remains very much alive, manifesting in the lives it continues to transform. Today, 37 individuals from Maheshtala underwent free cataract surgeries at Vivekananda Mission Ashram Netra Niramay Niketan. At its core, healthcare is about restoring the fundamental human right to live with DIGNITY. That is what Sebaashray has stood for, and that is what it will continue to stand for. Because some journeys don’t end, they EVOLVE.

Loss of vision is an erosion of independence, dignity, and confidence. It dims the joy of seeing loved ones’ faces clearly, complicates the simplest of tasks, and gradually pushes people to the margins. While cataract surgery may be routine for some, for countless elderly citizens living with limited means, even this basic medical intervention remains beyond reach. This is precisely where #Sebaashray steps in. On 21st and 22nd January, 27 elderly residents of Falta, Diamond Harbour, underwent free cataract surgeries at the Renuka Eye Institute, restoring not just their sight, but their confidence, autonomy, and dignity. This is the true measure of Sebaashray’s success, an initiative rooted in compassion, built on access, and driven by the belief that no one should walk alone in moments of vulnerability. It exists to uplift lives, restore hope, and stand steadfastly beside those who need support the most.

For families standing at the edge of uncertainty, timely healthcare is not merely relief, it is survival. Today, 13 residents from Maheshtala were able to regain their sight through cataract surgeries at Renuka Eye Hospital, an endeavour made possible by #Sebaashray2. Sebaashray is not simply an initiative; it is a commitment. A commitment that illness will not be ignored, that suffering will not be left unattended, that quality healthcare is neither privilege nor favour, but a right owed to every citizen. And in every life that regains sight, in every family that is reassured of its place in the care of the state, we witness the profound truth that leadership is not measured by proclamations or power, but by the tangible compassion extended to those who rely upon it, by the promises kept when hope itself seems fragile, and by the unyielding conviction that service is the truest measure of governance and the highest calling of those entrusted with the public trust.

We seldom realise the value of sight until it begins to fade. For those living with impaired vision, the gradual loss of sight often brings with it a loss of confidence, independence, and dignity. Sebaashray refuses to allow lives to be clouded by such uncertainty. As in its first edition, Sebaashray 2 is once again restoring vision through free cataract surgeries, delivered with the highest standards of medical precision and humane care. This is the ethos of Sebaashray: service without conditions and a commitment to stand beside those who need us most in their hour of vulnerability.

Sebaashray may have officially concluded, but its legacy endures like an eternal flame, illuminating the lives of lakhs of families across Diamond Harbour with renewed hope. Though the camps have drawn to a close, their echoes live on in every heartbeat restored and every ailment healed, propelling our sacred mission of equitable healthcare into a bolder future, where no life is left in the shadows of neglect. I am especially inspired by the journey of Rustam Sheikh, who attended one of our health camps and was swiftly diagnosed as needing retinal surgery. Thanks to the expertise at Renuka Eye Institute, the operation was successfully completed, allowing him to see the world with renewed clarity and confidence. Alongside him, 15 other patients underwent free cataract surgeries, reclaiming not just their sight, but their dignity and independence. With continued post-operative care, they will soon regain full vision, and with it, the assurance that compassionate public service can truly transform lives. Together, we will continue building a healthier, more humane future for every citizen.

Every Sebaashray camp reminds me why public service must stay rooted in reality. Every decision, every initiative ultimately comes down to whether it makes life a little easier for someone who needs help. Sebaashray was built with that clarity, and at the Diamond Harbour SDO Ground, that purpose was visible in the simplest, most meaningful ways. I spent time with people who came seeking care, listened to their concerns, and reassured them that their health will never be treated as an afterthought. For those in need, wheelchairs were provided so that dignity and movement were not denied alongside treatment. Sebaashray is not about one camp or one visit, it is about building a sense of certainty that support will be there when it is needed most. What truly stayed with me was the affection people expressed in their own ways. The smiles, the waves, the warmth from those who simply wanted to be seen, touched me deeply. That love is not something I take lightly. It strengthens my resolve to serve with honesty, consistency, and care.

Public service, to me, has always meant fairness, empathy, and being present for people without prejudice or distinction. Guided by this belief, Sebaashray continues to serve the residents of Diamond Harbour with a singular focus on accessible healthcare and human dignity. Today, I visited the Sebaashray-2 health camp at the Harindanga BDO Office ground in Falta, where I interacted with patients, listened carefully to their concerns, and tried to understand their challenges at a personal level. I reassured them of my continued support and of our commitment to ensuring that healthcare reaches those who need it the most. I am grateful to every doctor, health worker, volunteer, and official who has come together in this collective effort. The warmth, trust, and affection shown by the people of Falta today have truly moved me and strengthened my resolve to walk alongside them, every step of the way.

As elected representatives, our foremost duty is to ensure the holistic well-being of our people. With each passing year, I have reaffirmed my commitment to this cause, striving to serve my constituents better. In 2025, I am proud to present #Sebaashray - a harmonious blend of ‘সেবা’ (seba means service) and ‘আশ্রয়’ (ashray means shelter), as a humble offering to the people of Diamond Harbour. Today, I inaugurated the health camps, taking stock of the arrangements, engaging with doctors, nurses, and volunteers, and personally connecting with the people to understand their needs and aspirations. I am confident that SEBAASHRAY will emerge as a model of exemplary healthcare, not just for Bengal but for the entire nation.

মানুষের মর্যাদা সবচেয়ে বড় সত্য। The Constitution speaks of dignity as a right, not a favour. As we move ahead from Republic Day, that principle guided today’s work, ensuring that care remains organised, accessible, and uninterrupted for people across Diamond Harbour. With Mega Camps held simultaneously in all seven Assembly Constituencies, people were able to access consultations, diagnostics, medicines, and referrals without confusion or interruption. This coordination ensured that care did not end at the first step, but moved with people through every stage they required. This approach reflects what Sebaashray stands for. When people enter this system, they are not treated as numbers, but as individuals whose health journey deserves attention, follow-through, and respect. The confidence with which people participated today reinforces why this work matters. That trust carries an obligation, and I remain committed to strengthening Sebaashray as a model of healthcare that is reliable, humane, and firmly grounded in the belief that public service must consistently stand with the people it serves.

Serving people is not just a principle, it is the highest responsibility one can carry. The faith shown by the people of Diamond Harbour is deeply humbling, and I regard that trust as a sacred duty that must be honoured through action, not words. As long as our Gonodebota continue to stand by me with their love and confidence, my resolve to protect their health, dignity, and future will remain unwavering. This commitment is not conditional, not temporary, and not symbolic. It is total, enduring, and driven by the belief that public service must always put people first.

Sebaashray 2 was never conceived as a momentary intervention, but as a continuing promise that care, dignity, and access to healthcare will not end when camps conclude. Nearly two months on, that promise stands fulfilled yet again. An elderly citizen from Diamond Harbour has regained clear vision after a free cataract surgery at Renuka Eye Institute, while Saifuddin Jamader, referred from the Budge Budge camp, has successfully undergone a complex retinal procedure. These are not merely medical outcomes; they are restored independence, renewed confidence, and lives reclaimed from uncertainty. Moments like these reaffirm why Sebaashray exists. To ensure that quality healthcare is not determined by income, geography, or circumstance, but delivered as a right with compassion and respect. The relief and joy on their faces remain our greatest motivation, and our strongest resolve to carry this mission forward.

Sebaashray is advancing across Diamond Harbour as a SINGLE, COORDINATED MISSION of care. Mega Camps are being conducted simultaneously in all seven Assembly Constituencies, ensuring that healthcare access remains ORGANISED, SEAMLESS, and DIGNIFIED for every individual. This integrated model has enabled services to move with the people, delivering timely assessment, clear guidance, and structured follow-up without delay or uncertainty. The focus has not merely been on reaching patients, but on standing by them through every stage of treatment, ensuring CONTINUITY, COMPASSION, and ACCOUNTABILITY. The trust that people place in Sebaashray is both humbling and reaffirming. It strengthens our resolve to uphold this HEALTHCARE MODEL that is RELIABLE, PEOPLE-CENTRIC, and rooted in dignity; where no one is left to walk alone.

70% of Indians live on the edge—just one medical bill away from falling into poverty. Instead of offering relief, the Jono-birodhi NDA government has imposed GST on health and life insurance, and hiked prices of over 900 essential drugs. But in Diamond Harbour, our commitment isn’t dictated by timelines or headlines. #Sebaashray may have formally concluded, but our resolve hasn’t. Today, 18 individuals received life-saving medication. Real service doesn’t come with an expiry date. Because unlike migratory politicians who appear with the election season, we show up even when there’s nothing to gain—except people’s love and trust.

By electing me as their MP for the third consecutive time with a margin of 7.1 lakh votes, the people of Diamond Harbour placed upon me a debt I can never truly repay. But I have vowed to try, every single day. Thus, #Sebaashray was born. And what an extraordinary journey it has been. For 75 days, our doctors, nurses, volunteers, and support staff have worked tirelessly, restoring not just health but also the smiles of those in need. Witnessing that joy return to their faces has been the greatest gift I could ask for. As long as I have their blessings, I will fight, I will strive, I will work every single day to uplift their lives. Because this is not just my constituency. This is my family.

#Sebaashray2 does more than deliver treatment; it restores trust. It tells every family, “You will not be left alone when illness strikes.” That promise takes shape in the lives of 22 residents from Metiaburuz, who have undergone cataract surgeries at Renuka Eye Hospital, free of cost, with dignity, and with care that does not discriminate between the powerful and the powerless. As these 22 individuals return home with renewed sight, they carry with them more than medical relief. They carry reassurance that governance can be humane, that institutions can care, and that when the state chooses to serve, lives are transformed in the most meaningful ways. That is the responsibility we owe our people. And that is the promise Sebaashray 2 will continue to keep.
