Skill Development: This a shot preparation drill I did with Charlisse LW & Gabs . There are 3 spots (slot to slot & wing to corner). They have to get 2, 3/5 makes in all three spots. The passer yells “now” and that is when they know to turn, locate, and get their feet set. This is the first time they did this. They keep getting better and better. #GrowOurGame #EarnWhatYouWant #GrowthMindset

But with these two I’m working on next play speed (the mental toughness to go to the next play) and fitness. This is just a 3part drill working on multiple skills and shots, out of actions we do. Skill Development: This is meant to spur on ideas and help grow the game. This isn’t showing perfection. Thankful to UCLA Women's Basketball for having the courage to let me do this. This is from Sienna Betts 3rd week of school. We are learning each other and what habits need to be addressed and where we start in her fundamental tool box. This drill is primarily about footwork and shot preparation consistency. Si is a permananent pivot person. She always wants her right foot to be her pivot foot. When she knows she isn’t shooting right off the catch her left foot gets too wide. We need to work to create an efficient and consistent shot pocket (that includes her left foot being more consistently aligned with her shooting pocket and shooting line). I am sooooo impressed with Sienna’s basketball IQ, coachability, and determination to become great. She is willing to make the uncommon choices. She will be an elite player for the Bruins #GrowthMindset #GrowOurGame. #ProcessOverOutcomes

Texas A&M HC Mike Elko - Building Defensive IQ for Winning Situational Football "It starts to me with you have to develop football 101 in your defense. You've got to take a step back & you've got to build some level of general football knowledge in your defensive unit. It's sometimes the things that can save you when you don't call the perfect defense/scheme. Down & Distance Understanding... 2nd & 7+ - We have won 1st down... The offense is now trying to get themselves back in favorable positions for 3rd down. Here the battle is for half the yardage. - Offensively you will see a lot of RPOs, Quick Game, Screen & Draw. This is not a down where you will see a lot of high risk types of offensive plays. - Defensively we play this down & distance like a 3rd down off 1/2 the yardage... (2nd & 8 is like 3rd & 4, 2nd & 14 is like 3rd & 7) 2nd & 4-6 - We have lost 1st down. Now we must make a play on 2nd down to try to re-create an advantage for 3rd down. Success on this down is similar to 1st & 10. We are looking to hold them to 3 or less. - This is a down where the offense usually sticks to their strengths. Again, they are looking for a low risk play that will keep the chains moving forward. - For us we call this D&D no different than 1st down. 2nd & 1-3 (Waste) - Thus for the offense is known as a waste down. This is a D&D where the offense is likely to take a deep shot because they are in a favorable position for 3rd down. - Offenses will try double moves & max protection shot plays a lot on this D&D - For us on defense, this is a big zone pressure down. Gives us a chance to create a negative play and regain the advantage on the sticks. Also closes the middle of the field to protect us on the shot plays.

COACHES: This is a great clip from the Flyers on modern ozone play. A couple highlights of positive things they do here: -They change sides multiple times and go low to high/high to low in the zone. This spreads out the opponents dzone coverage opening up ice particularly in the middle. -Everyone is moving! Movement is way harder to defend than standing still. -Weakside D activation. The weakside D activating allowed them to keep possession of the puck after the initial shot and then get the rebound for the goal. -Positionless hockey. The goal was scored off a shot from a defenseman in the slot and then another defenseman getting the rebound right at the net front. Great job by Philly!!!!

The Best Offense Drill?! One of the most effective motion drills I have run is the "Designated Shooter." It is a live, competitive drill that can be run as a 4-man drill or a 5-man drill. This motion offense drill teaches your shooter... - How to attack & come off screens. - How to cut & move to get open. - When to prepare and expect a shot and how to exercise judgment in shot selection. And the shooter learns that they can pass up a shot and still get the ball back for another one. Thus learning how to make good decisions and take good shots. Shooters can also learn that setting screens is a great way to get open. The other players off the ball learn... - How to create shots for others. - How and when to set screens on and off the ball. - How to create space, when to clear out, etc. - To recognize "Gretzky" opportunities where an extra pass is needed. Drill Instructions For Designated Shooter The drill is just as it sounds. The coach designates a shooter. And the rules are simple. The shooter is the only one who can shoot the ball. The operative word here is "can" not "must." It might sound a little bit drastic, but it is very effective. The shooter cuts, comes off screens, passes, backdoors, and does what they need to do in order to get open. Everyone else is designated to get the shooter open. They can screen, pass or do whatever is necessary to get the shooter open. The defense should not know who the shooter is until they shoot it. Traps To Avoid During Drill There are traps to avoid. The shooter "can" shoot, not "must" shoot. Don't let him fire indiscriminately. Teach shot selection and patience. It will lower frustration levels during the game. The shooter might be the only one who can shoot it but he is not the only player they can pass to. Early players might fixate on getting the ball to the shooter as opposed to creating flow and getting him open. Players might only screen for the shooter. This might create some stagnant play. They should screen for all players. Other players should just play as normal as they can, they just can't shoot.

I understand wanting to protect assets but don’t BS me about spring games take away from development, it gets everyone a chance to compete in live action with a crowd while having the 1’s 2’s & 3’s mixed up playing next to each other (which could happen in the fall bc injuries happen). Spring in Tally is a wonderful time of the year and helps the surrounding businesses. Highly disappointed there isn’t going to be a spring game. In my opinion I think it’s soft as fuck to not put one on for the program and the fans. Spring 2013 practice number who gives af, end of practice after long work day. Went 1’s vs 1’s 20+ plays in a row to the point of exhaustion on the Goalline. Guess what we had a spring game too then went on to have an amazing Fall. It’s called not shying away from competition and sharpening your sword which makes everyone better coaches included.

After Victors block on Jimmy with 32 seconds left, Spurs were up 1. If you dribble the ball out to suck time off the clock, you’re doing the defense a favor because 1: the D is set and you’re allow them to rest. —- gearing up for a final possession to win. 2: You’re going to get off a rushed /bad shot by starting the action late in the clock. I hate this decision by Fox. Go for the throat and push in semi transition off the block shot. Start the offense early in the clock to be sure you get a great shot and go for the damn throat. I can understand it if there’s 24-26 seconds left in the game after you secure possession but not when there’s 8-9 second difference in shot clock & game clock. Live and learn. Lost by 3. Lost by 1.
