I went on an indefinite break from VRChat world creation back in May, with the intention to explore other platforms/options. I won't be returning to VRC as a world creator anymore, the break from it is now permanent. So what did I choose? Standalone games for platforms like Steam. I plan to keep making games for PC VR first (with desktop/non-VR support too), as I fall into the group that desperately want more PC VR games that aren't held back by untethered/mobile VR parity. Mobile VR support will be considered after the pc versions are complete, if doable. How can I? if I don't like the growing complexity of vrc world dev? I'm using a standalone version of Cyantrigger and with the help of my close friends at Studio CyFi, & the transition has been really smooth to standalone. I think this is a key part of my choice and it not being an empty promise, as I'm not working in the dark here. If I need help with something (which is a lot) I have my friends to help me through it. Plus, I have access to everything game devs have the freedom to use like plugins/scripts from asset store. So do I have a project in development? Not yet. I'm in the R&D phase, learning lots of new techniques & aspects of coding to help in future projects. I am already at the stage that I can recreate everything I've done from my past worlds, so anything I learn now is completely new stuff I lacked the skill to do before. A big focus of this R&D phase is learning how to make more advanced NPC/enemy logic, since I want to do more combat heavy projects. 2026, whats the plan? I want to be more open with what I'm working on, sharing stuff I'm happy with and also stuff that I've found difficult so far, so you can keep track of my journey to making my first standalone game for PC VR. This is how ALOHA's "teleoperation" system works - a fancy word for "remote control". Training robots will be more and more like playing games in the physical world. A human operates a "joystick++" to perform tasks and collect data, or intervene if there's any safety concern. There's actually a learning curve to master the controller, much like practicing gaming skills. Teleoperation can be done in many different ways. ALOHA is an impressive custom-built system with very low cost. Here're a few alternatives: (1) Motion Capture (MoCap): apply the MoCap systems used for Hollywood movies to capture the fine-grained motions of hand joints. There would be no "embodiment gap" if the robot hand has 5 fingers. For instance, a demonstrator can wear a CyberGlove ( and manipulate the objects. CyberGlove will capture the motion signals & haptic feedback in real-time, which can be re-targeted onto the humanoid. (2) Wearing gloves & markers can be clumsy. An alternative way to do MoCap is through computer vision. DexPilot from NVIDIA enables marker-less and glove-free data collection. The human operator simply uses their bare hands to perform the tasks. 4 Intel RealSense depth cameras and 2 NVIDIA Titan XP GPUs (yeah, 2019 work) translate the pixels to precise motion signals for robot learning. (3) VR Headset: turn the training room into a VR game and "role play" the robot. This has the advantage of scalable remote data collection - annotators from around the world can contribute without coming onsite. Adobe.. has released a tool that combines Generative Gaussian Splats with a Diffusion layer and it's not all over the internet? WHAT IS GOING ON :D I had to test this out ofc! Substance 3D viewer, the new 3d viewer just released by Adobe, not only supports viewing of a large, large list of 3d formats, but it also supports generating of 3d models as Gaussian Splats. Combine that with the built-in 3d to image functionality and you basically have at least a few of the steps I've been doing for the last year or so using multiple tools. Exciting stuff! The new Photoshop Beta also supports the 3D viewer and you can import 3d files directly in photoshop as smart objects linked to the viewer. The elements you prompt in based on your models, can be easily exported to your clipboard without backgrounds making it very easy to use this in your normal image editing workflows. I have a suspicion that we'll see much more of this in other Adobe tools and I'm very curious to see this used for things like this in more 3d tools than "just" Adobe Neo (which is fantastic btw). #adobe #art #gaussiansplatting

This is the power of VFX and AI now.. Creating volumetric effects in AI and then using AfterEffects and Premiere to layer and edit + Topaz Labs to upscale, you can visually achieve the same effects that would have taken me A LOT longer in Cinema4D/Blender. This is really amazing, only because if I can do this now with what we have, imagine where it will be in 6-mo 🔥 it will only get better. Soon we’ll be able to do a lot more within 3D environments with gaussian splats and volumetric effects. It won’t be long after that before Cinema, blender and others integrate gaussian splats and generative prompting directly into the software design and render process. At that point things are going to get REALLY BADASS! I’m chillin tonight, finally a night off lol. But tomorrow I’ll show you guys how I did this ❤️

Explored the finger menu with a depth-based layout. Felt fun. Microinteractions/UI motion helped to compensate for the lack of haptic feedback by providing rich visual clues and reinforcing the user's intentions (all these subtle micro-movements). Based on the prototype, here are a few things to consider when you use this interaction pattern: 1) Perspective visual distortion. It might take more time to recognize visually distorted signs when they are arranged by depth. It's a good idea to use well-known sign sequences where the current selected element gives you a hint about the previous and next ones. A user should have an embedded knowledge of how the elements in the menu are sorted. A number selector might work well with it 2) Low range of hand movement in stationary mode. Because you need to keep visual contact with the UI, the useful range of possible hand movement is very limited. You must position your hand in front of your eyes, maintaining a comfortable distance. It restricts the number of items you can have on the menu. Plus, the trigger distance (30-40mm) also reduces the amount of menu elements you can use. Two or three items work the best (four is max). Prototyped another iteration of a hand-tracking-based BoxelXR toolbar. This time, it's a circular menu spawned in front of a user once the index pinch is triggered. Notes: 1) It works great with four elements, but it's hard to scale for a higher number; 2) The selection interaction is forgiving for spatial positioning errors. This is because a 3D hand span is interpreted through a 1D angle range (a 1D subspace in the polar coordinate system of 2D projection space, which is a subspace of the 3D space of the experience, respectively). This prevents false positives and makes it easy for users to execute. Precise muscle coordination is not required, either. Design tip: Lower the dimensionality of your interaction to reduce cognitive loads and make it more accessible. 3) Using depth-based animations to show different UI states is a great way to leverage the third dimension and add something interesting to the experience. But be careful. When the UI faces a user's face, the contrast in the motion might be low, so use it only as an additional layer. The state of LOW-FI and platform support (Death of PCVR): When the Kickstarter ran back in , the main focus was "Next-Gen VR", meaning at the time PCVR, with high hopes for PSVR2 (which hadn't been officially announced). During the next year or so, we (myself, Noah Rayburn and Mark Schramm #VR #AR #MR) focused purely on supporting PC VR hardware. Rift/S, Vive, Index (including controllers), all WMR devices, etc... Mark even added HOTAS and Leap Motion support. BUT, as I'm sure you know, PCVR has been in decline since around the launch of Half-Life: Alyx, which Anton Hand so eloquently called the punctuation mark on the gravestone of PCVR. The Rift store is a ghost town.. like officially.. even according to Meta, Viveport (lets not even go there), what else we got? WMR Store? Was that even a thing? Anyway... Lucky for us, PSVR2 was just over the horizon and we had the dev kits! How well is PSV2 doing though? Guess is (based on speaking with other top VR devs), not that great... Somewhere in there, the great and powerful Noah Rayburn was able to implement a pretty slick "non-VR mode" upon my request to be able to test the game without having to keep taking the HMD off and on while balancing controllers on my knees and working with janky Quest link stuff. Good news! Non-VR mode is great! No just for testing, but for playing. We decided to go full in on it's development and offer it to the consumers. Bonus, it also runs on Steam Deck! (See video below). Now as we gear up to finish the game and run out of money (hopefully in that order), I'm thinking a lot about the market for the game and our placement in it. We have a decent amount of wishlists (66k on Steam and 24k on PS5) so far. Hope is that launching as a PSVR2 title will capture a good chunk of those users, pushing it up on the general PSN store ranking (notoriously hard for indies to do otherwise), and we'll make some sales to traditional flat PS5 gamers as well. Snowballing a bit if we're lucky. Steam launch could do decently well if timed properly, with hopes of the same "VR first" snowballing effect. Why am I telling you all of this? I just thought it would be good to get it in writing and have a place to point. We are starting to run low on money (PCVR presales have basically dried up), so it's also to let you know that the fire is lit under my ass to ship this thing. Jonathan Demme on what attracted him to make 'The Silence of the Lambs' (1991): "Interviewer: You said you liked films with themes and psychological complexities. Is this what attracted you to 'Silence of the Lambs' (1991)? Demme: I saw the story of a woman in it. That was what appealed to me more than anything else. The idea of doing a violent picture, per se didn't hold any particular appeal for me- especially violence with women as the subjects. Certainly, that is the background of the film, but the film itself is very much the heroic struggle on the part of Clarice Starling to try to save a life, and that gripped me right away. We tried hard to swing the story very much from Clarice's point of view in order to force the audience into an even stronger identification with her than might ordinarily be the case. My cameraman, Tak Fujimoto, and I recognized that point-of-view shots are used in films often, but usually either for a particular point of emphasis, or for an extraordinary visual gag. What we decided to do here was to capitalize on the ability- of subjective camera to, once again, force identification with the character. We decided to use it, not just for a particular emphasis, but to bring that kind of emphasis to everything Clarice saw: operating on the premise that every scene she's in is a scene of great importance, let's show exactly what she sees in every single scene. Aside from the 1940s film 'The Lady in the Lake' (1947), we probably made the most use of point-of-view, in recent years anyway. We wondered if audiences might find it distracting, but we decided to commit to it anyway, because the potential was there to up the emotional ante quite a bit. The funny thing is, it's an easy shot to set up because all you have to do is watch what Jodie Foster does in the rehearsal and what she looks at; the cameraman watches that, and then it's his turn to duplicate what she saw. It's the easiest shot to dream up because you don't actually dream it up. You just copy what the actress is doing. When you get to the editing stage, theoretically certain kinds of shots need to precede a point-of-view shot for it to flow seamlessly into the montage- usually a shot of whoever's point-of-view it is, looking very, very close to the camera so it's not at all jarring when we turn around and see what they're seeing. Sounds scary, but will enable a whole new range of VR/AR experiences that won't be possible without it. This has deep implications for how you feel when playing games, for instance. It also should be able to finally solve the "VR nausea" many feel when inside a VR headset. I filmed this on my Apple Vision Pro. Did Ross Coulthart and NewsNation Conflate UFO Whistleblower Jake Barber’s Background? In this clip below from the interview that Ross Coulthart did with jakebarber on NewsNation, Coulthart claims that Jake was “recruited” into Combat Control while in the USAF. While there is a possibility he may have enlisted under the AFSC of a Combat Controller, it is actually most likely that he volunteered for the program WHILE at basic training. When I went through USAF basic training in 2003, I, along with other men in my flight, were asked if we wanted to tryout for the Combat Controller course. They don’t recruit you, they just ask if you’re interested in trying out but warn of a very high “washout” rate in the training. To washout means you failed a portion of the course and have to be recycled into another AFSC (job) and can no longer continue the process of being a Combat Controller. Multiple people, including Ross, Lue Elizondo, and Marik vR have all claimed that Jake is a “Tier One Operator”, referring to Jake as a Combat Controller. But is that true? Below (in the comments) you will see the DD-214 that NewsNation purposely edited to cutout the “Military Education” portion of the document. But if you look in section 11, you see the code C2A551J, which is the code for “Aerospace Maintenance” aka a “Flying Crew Chief”. Here’s an example of what that code stands for ( The DD-214 also states that Jake was a Flying Crew Chief for “5 years and 10 months” of his 6 year commitment, showing that he was not a CCT at any point in his service or it would be listed (like Jason Sands DD-214 when he cross-trained over into the 1N6 position in the USAF). Ross states that Jake was in aerospace maintenance in the late 90’s. So that checks out with his DD-214, as he was enlisted from 1994-2000. In other documents that NewsNation deceptively edits and rushes through in the segment, it shows Jake as a A1C getting orders to various schools associated with Combat Controller training, but the rank and dates shows it happened early in his career (1995-1996), which shows after basic training. In the PCVR version, you can really get close to the artists dancing and syncing, and in the frames where the recording doesn't have many artifacts, it is almost like having a real artist in front of you. And it is impressive that this technology works even when the singer is dancing with quick movements! But these recordings can be pretty huge (the one with McKenzi Brooke is 21GB!) and require a powerful computer, so now Gracia is also streaming these GS videos, and I was able to try the Amy May performance also on Quest! I have to say that quality-wise, even streamed, they are amazing. But there are more artifacts than in the PC version: I noticed that when I got close to the singer. But there is a huge advantage in having them on Quest: you can see them in mixed reality. It was like having the singer having a private performance for me in my house. Crazy cool! I'll keep experimenting with these performances and maybe write an article in the upcoming weeks.
