Ryan Blaney won the race at Phoenix. If he was one spot better at Martinsville, he could've won his second Cup title by doing so. When asked, he said he's trying not to think of the what-if of things. "I wouldn't say it's bittersweet. I enjoy it just like any other win." He does find it ironic, though, that his first Phoenix win comes when he's not eligible for the championship.

"Honestly, if I was to fight for the title, I think I would prefer somebody else to be champ. Merab's always been a good guy to me and my family. I actually trained with him for Sean O'Malley. I don't think he'll get mad if I say this right now, because the fight already passed, but when I trained with him last, we were grappling and I went for a takedown and I made him hit his head on the wall. I'm pretty sure he got a concussion because he didn't train for the rest of the week. I felt bad, but thankfully he recovered and then he went out there and did a crazy performance. Thought this was a thoughtful answer by Bubba about being a race car driver first, but also being comfortable with and embracing his identity. "I show up as a race car driver first and let everything else settle in after that ... I never lead off with 'I'm the Black driver.' No disrespect to you guys (the media), but a lot of the headlines, you start off with that. "... Yes guys, I know, it's out there every time I do something. Just embrace it. You have to enjoy it."
