I think I might have discovered the best 2D game engine for vibe coding games. For the past few weeks, I have been making a lovecraftian fishing game with peaceful day time fishing and intense night time combat where you fend off mutated sea creatures. And I've been using Love2D game engine for this. Love2D game engine runs on LUA, which is a compact (token-friendly) programming language that many models (GPT5, Grok Code and Sonnet) are pretty good at. I'm considering to set up a Patreon where I'll share more in depth content (devlogs, prompts, advice, tips etc) where I'll share my learnings as I vibe code an indie game from scratch. If you're interested in this, please let me know in the replies. Trying to gauge interest on this!

I took Grok 4 for a spin this weekend to build this game prototype. I used SuperGrok Chat to generate the initial game prototype and then brought it over to Cursor to continue coding with Grok 4 MAX. Grok 4 in Cursor is like a no-nonsense agent. Doesn't speak much, but delivers the goods. There were moments where I was rate-limited or stuck on a bug or two that I had to get other models to help, but otherwise it's a fast, reliable model to work with. This makes me incredibly excited for Grok Code to launch in August!

Explore the shallow seas as a stingray, vibe coded on ThreeJs using Cursor. I made a similar game more than a year ago, but I hit a roadblock because the models back then (I think I was using Sonnet 3.5) struggled with handling 3D models, but now, it's a different story. All 3D models were made with Tripo3D and I was able to put this together in less than 8 hours worth of work. I mainly used Composer 2.5 and Opus 4.8 to make this. Will try to find the original game I made a while ago and put it into the replies section.

Result: Grok 4.5 genuinely plays like a polished mobile game. Fable 5 and GPT 5.5 feel too fast. Everything feels rushed, lacks finish. I used Cursor to vibe code a simple fishing game prototype on the Unity Engine. Here's my learnings: - I did not use any Unity MCP for this. The game was built entirely by Cursor models (Sonnet 4.6 for execution and Opus 4.6 for planning) - The model was able to set up the game, getting the basic game mechanics working fairly quickly - I had to use the Unity Game Editor UI to attach components to the in-game objects manually, but it was quite easy to follow the instructions given by the Cursor model - Unity Editor is huge and slow! Compared to Godot, I find the UI really clunky I feel tired looking at it - Unity Assets Marketplace is amazing, there are so many amazing art assets there (like the ones I am using for this game). This is probably the biggest strength of Unity. - I had some issues with restoring checkpoints, probably because of how Unity Game Editor UI being really clunky and I had to manually adjust things in the Editor, which the model doesnt have knowledge of Overall, the results turn out pretty decent, but it was a rather frustrating experience, especially when I had to debug issues or rollback changes. I'll explore more vibe coding on Unity but for now, I think I prefer Godot as a game engine. I just wish there is a Godot Asset Marketplace!

It's still WIP, but I'm building an FPS with element-based effects: - Fire damage burns objects/enemies - Ice damage freezes objects/enemies and shatters them with additional hits - Fire melts frozen objects/enemies - Will add more elemental interactions This was vibe coded in Cursor for the Godot Game Engine. This weekend I explored making another game prototype. I grew up playing simulation games like Game Dev Studio and Dungeon Village, so I thought it would be fun to make an MMO dev studio game, where you are the developer building a fledgling MMO for players to play in. I got it to a point where you have. tech tree where you can earn XP and unlock some buildings, NPCs and mobs, enough for me to test the core game loop, but somehow I still feel like it's missing something. I might revisit this in the future, but it was fun being able to explore making a game in a genre I haven't really tried before.

Making sprites is so much better, and the designs are detailed and I would consider this to be a turning point in Ai game dev, you can really make a game now with AI. Claude Fable 5 is insane again. The first time, I only used it to build a 3D game clone. I just used Fable 5 inside Rork to build a new tower defense game in about 1 hour. From the initial idea → level design → heroes & monsters → in-game economy → game art → sound effects → code Each level will have different difficulty, different map upgrades, different monsters, and different bosses. Each tower weapon has unique skills, counters other weapons in different ways, and the heroes are controllable with skills that can support each other... All in one flow. This is getting crazy me again. 🙃

I vibe coded a game called Aether Breach for my son today. Built the whole thing in about 2 hours using Cursor, Grok 4.5, and GPT Image 2.0. He gave it a try and really liked it. I just need to make Easy mode a bit more relaxed so he can make it to the later stages. The full game has DualSense support too. I published my WebHID DualSense npm package a few days ago, so adding controller support to new games is pretty straightforward now. Really happy with how it turned out.
