Chinese robotics company Astribot released their latest World-Action Model (WAM), Lumo-2. Technical breakdown: - based on a frozen 🥶 Qwen-3.5 4B VLM - trained in 3 progressive stages: 1. Action is aligned with latent world dynamics (an abstract representation of action). Real-world actions are anchored to physical constraints, while the latent space is guided to focus on motion-relevant changes. This bidirectional relationship makes the model physically grounded -> critical for a world model. 2. Action is aligned with vision and language. Reusing the vision backbone and action encoder from the frozen VLM, the authors add a custom vocabulary (for new actions), a semantic module, an action decoder, and an action projector. This aligns the (new) action representations with the (existing) vision-language semantic space. Most importantly: it builds a direct mapping from natural-language instructions to motor execution. 3. End-to-end training on language, video, and robot data. Only the new modules (everything outside the frozen backbone) are trained end-to-end across temporal reasoning, physical understanding, long-horizon, and dexterous manipulation. At the end of the day, Lumo-2 is not the best on benchmarks, but that's not the point. Google presents Genie Generative Interactive Environments introduce Genie, the first generative interactive environment trained in an unsupervised manner from unlabelled Internet videos. At 11B parameters, Genie can be considered a foundation world model. It is comprised of a spatiotemporal video tokenizer, an autoregressive dynamics model, and a simple and scalable latent action model. Meet VLA-JEPA, the first world model policy in LeRobot 🌍 Most VLAs just learn observation → action. VLA-JEPA also learns action-relevant dynamics: during training, a JEPA world model has to predict upcoming frames in latent space from the model's own actions. Then, at inference, the world model disappears entirely, leaving a standard, fast VLA: Qwen backbone, action head, nothing extra. In our demo it was fine-tuned on just 13 examples and ran in real time on an NVIDIA DGX Spark. On a consumer RTX 3080, it hits 10Hz using under 6GB of VRAM. World-model supervision during training, zero extra cost at inference. That's the whole trick.

Glad that our work “Inference-Time Enhancement of Generative Robot Policies via Predictive World Modeling”, led by Han Qi, has been accepted to IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters! 🎉 We propose Generative Predictive Control (GPC): sample action proposals from a pretrained diffusion policy (“look back”), roll them out with a diffusion-based action-conditioned video world model (“look forward”), then rank or optimize the actions using either a learned reward model or VLM preferences. Conceptually, this is trajectory optimization / MPC with hybrid sampling + gradient optimization, interpreted through modern diffusion priors and video world models. Interestingly, we first posted the paper on arXiv in Feb 2025, when action-conditioned video world models for planning were still rare—now this direction is rapidly gaining traction. Upscale-A-Video: Temporal-Consistent Diffusion Model for Real-World Video Super-Resolution paper page: Text-based diffusion models have exhibited remarkable success in generation and editing, showing great promise for enhancing visual content with their generative prior. However, applying these models to video super-resolution remains challenging due to the high demands for output fidelity and temporal consistency, which is complicated by the inherent randomness in diffusion models. Our study introduces Upscale-A-Video, a text-guided latent diffusion framework for video upscaling. This framework ensures temporal coherence through two key mechanisms: locally, it integrates temporal layers into U-Net and VAE-Decoder, maintaining consistency within short sequences; globally, without training, a flow-guided recurrent latent propagation module is introduced to enhance overall video stability by propagating and fusing latent across the entire sequences. Thanks to the diffusion paradigm, our model also offers greater flexibility by allowing text prompts to guide texture creation and adjustable noise levels to balance restoration and generation, enabling a trade-off between fidelity and quality. Extensive experiments show that Upscale-A-Video surpasses existing methods in both synthetic and real-world benchmarks, as well as in AI-generated videos, showcasing impressive visual realism and temporal consistency.

LingBot-VA 2.0 from Robbyant, a video-action foundation model, throws that starting point out and trains the whole stack natively for control. And it runs closed-loop at a peak 225 Hz. It's so important because A robot cannot move responsively when its controller pauses to imagine the next few frames. LingBot-VA 2.0 predicts during execution, then corrects using each real observation. And it carries only about 13B video parameters while activating roughly 1.9B per token. Bigger robot models usually mean slower reactions, creating a direct conflict between intelligence and control. LingBot-VA 2.0 is trained from scratch for robot control rather than adapted from a video generator built for content creation. Robbyant, an embodied AI company under Ant Group, built it to learn how scenes change under actions, predict what should happen next, and turn those predictions into real-time robot movements. Most video-action systems inherit a tokenizer and video backbone trained mainly to reproduce visual appearance. LingBot-VA 2.0 rebuilds both parts around physical control. Its semantic visual-action tokenizer maps observations toward features from a frozen vision foundation model and learns compact latent actions from frame-to-frame changes using self-supervised inverse and forward dynamics. Unlabeled web video can therefore carry action-relevant training signals without robot action labels. The policy is causal from the start, so every prediction can use only past observations. Its sparse Mixture-of-Experts video backbone has about 13B total parameters, while about 1.9B are active per token, keeping the compute lower during each step. A high-level vision-language planner breaks long tasks into smaller instructions, while the low-level video-action policy handles continuous movement. Foresight Reasoning predicts future visual states while the robot is already acting, then replaces imagined states with every new real observation. Combined with few-step distillation and systems acceleration, the paper reports a peak asynchronous execution frequency of 225 Hz. The model adapts from 10–15 demonstrations, transfers across robot embodiments, and handles some new tasks zero-shot. If you want a vision encoder for dexterous manipulation, what should be the most important part to model? 🤔 Current standard models like CLIP, SigLIP, and DINOv2 have an incredible grasp of semantics and spatial details. But they lack the action-centric structure needed for downstream visuomotor control. But collecting annotated robotic trajectories at scale is SUPER expensive and largely unrealistic. So, how do we bridge this gap? What would a World Model look like if we start from a real embodied agent acting in the real world? It has to have: 1) A real, physically grounded and complex action space—not just abstract control signals. 2) Diverse, real-life scenarios and activities. Or in short: It has to be annoyingly complex—in both the action and vision space—to even get close to real life. We did an initial attempt: Whole-Body Conditioned Egocentric Video Prediction. In collaboration with @dans_t123 , Amir Bar, Yann LeCun , trevordarrell and Jitendra MALIK. (For more details, check: What we did is very simple: Predict Egocentric Video from human Actions (PEVA) - Given the past video and a future action represented by relative 3D body pose, PEVA predicts how the world looks next—from the first-person view. By conditioning on kinematic pose trajectories, structured by the joint hierarchy of the body, it learns how physical actions shape perception.

Google DeepMind just dropped 'Genie', an AI that can generate interactive video games. This is a huge deal. Genie is trained on 200,000 hours of unsupervised public internet gaming videos and can generate video games from a single prompt or image. But here's what's insane: Despite not being trained on action or text annotations, the foundation model can determine who the main character is and enable a user to control that character in the generated world. It does this through its Latent Action Model, Video Tokenizer, and Dynamics Model (will go more in-depth on this in tomorrow's newsletter for those interested). And for those asking, yes, it's research-only and not publicly available (here come the Google memes), and it does come with some limitations, like only currently creating games at 1FPS. But this is the worst AI will ever be. Anyone will be able to create their own entirely imagined virtual worlds soon, and that's a wild sentence to say out loud.

This is truly a turning point for world models 🌍 — we can now build real-time, fully interactive simulations that run for several minutes and bring any world we can imagine to life. This might be the missing puzzle piece for embodied AGI. ⚡ Real-time engine under the hood During generation the network predicts a fresh frame every 42 milliseconds while looking back over the entire action history. That history grows each step, so the compute graph must cache and retrieve past features fast or the frame rate tanks. The team built a custom attention window that skims for “landmarks” in the latent space, letting the model fetch relevant context quickly enough to hit real-time speed. How well do egocentric human videos scale? Apparently, really well. Dyna Robotics has introduced Dyna-2, a world-action model (WAM) pre-trained on more than 1 million hours of real egocentric human video. It learns by jointly predicting the next video frames and the actions, and that video prediction (world modeling) is what carries learning from humans to robots. • More human video predictably improves action prediction. • Task accuracy improves across embodiments (bimanual arms and a humanoid) with zero robot data in pre-training. • Post-trained on just a few hours of robot data, mean task performance rose 20% to 53% as human pre-training scaled 1k to 1M hours.
