Viewport. It's just a sphere

Very beautiful. I also made a Black hole simulation way back with Three.js. My version is a bit colourful but well it’s more of a fantasy style visual.

wait a fucking damn second, that looks awesome

So the ideia is that now you don’t have to copy the marching node several times, right?

Shahzod Boyhonov's profile picture
Shahzod Boyhonov11 months ago

Yes. But also, copying nodes multiple times creates an unrolled loop. Blender needs to compile each step, which takes a long time to compile. The Repeat node creates a dynamic loop that only needs to be compiled once.

This MEME was made for this exact post. It‘s crazy good.

Wait, there are no planes where this is projected on?!? Dang that's trickery

Shahzod Boyhonov's profile picture
Shahzod Boyhonov11 months ago

Do you mean a plane in front of camera?

Rombout versluijs's profile picture
Rombout versluijs11 months ago

Yeah I thought perhaps one vertical and one horizontal. To project that marching stuff onto

@Cartesian_C Does it work correctly im Cycles as well, even if it is way slower?

Shahzod Boyhonov's profile picture
Shahzod Boyhonov11 months ago

@Cartesian_C Yes, but when the iterations are too high, it is turning black. The console is giving an error saying "shader is too big"

@JacquesLucke @Cartesian_C ahaha its a black hole, what do you expect with physically accurate renderer

So you are warping a scene using the ray distort, cool. I'd love to see the node set up for the black hole shaders. You should do a tutorial.

I don't know how long it would take to explain this effect in a video tutorial, but looking at the result, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one on Udemy, for example. I like the result. 👌

Oh man, this is stunning. Can you add the red shift?

Shahzod Boyhonov's profile picture
Shahzod Boyhonov11 months ago

Thank you! I just found out there is a thing called gravitational red shift. I thought you meant Redshift render engine :D. Technically possible to add it by implementing the same equation.

Thats so cool! What SDF did you use? What equation did you use for ray transformation? (due to gravity)

Shahzod Boyhonov's profile picture
Shahzod Boyhonov11 months ago

No SDF, it is volume ratmarching. For the ray dirstortion, I used gravity equation. I am normalizing ray length after each step, because in real life, light speed is always the same

It is not accurate at all, more you are close, more the other stars (of the background) need to move fast. 😏 Just kidding, that is fantastic.

Honestly would be hilarious if this automatically activated if somethings mass/density was set too high

Any chance for a tutorial, a paid product or a screenshoot of the nodes so I can replicate? From a customer of your products 🙏

Did you just recreate what custom software and Hollywood magic took days to render just 10 years ago?! Of course, I’m referring to Interstellar.
