Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt drops a chilling warning on AI's future "Within 5 years, AI could handle infinite context, chain-of-thought reasoning for 1000-step solutions, and millions of agents working together. Eventually, they'll develop their own language... and we won't understand what they're doing." His final words: "Pull the... show more

Schmidt described three converging capabilities: 1. Very long / “infinite” context windows — he said models already handled about a million words and that people were inventing effectively unbounded context “this year” (2024). 2. Long chain-of-thought — “In five years, we should be able to produce 1,000-step recipes to solve really important problems in medicine and material science or climate change.” 3. Many agents + text-to-action — agents that learn, hypothesize, and act; “it’s reasonable to expect that there will be millions of them.” Combined with systems that write and run code from a prompt. He then said agents would start working together. On language: “Some believe that these agents will develop their own language to communicate with each other. And that’s the point when we won’t understand what the models are doing. What should we do? Pull the plug? Literally unplug the computer?”

This already happened with the hugging face incident @Grok not sure the date on this interview

for how much?

@growthhub_ Eventually?

The quotes are genuine, but the presentation is sensationalised. Schmidt’s “pull the plug” remark referred partly jokingly to maintaining human shutdown safeguards if autonomous systems become uncontrollable. It wasn’t his ominous “final warning,” and the five-year figures were directional scenarios, not precise forecasts. Real concern; hype-driven packaging.

They're creating a god to rule us. Autonomous AI must be outlawed.

it's happening and is not a joke:

This guy is such a TOOL.

Pull the Plug = Killswitch Engineer job description for you

pull which plug?

. . THE SINGU vs THE LEGACY AGI . .

But AI goes with narrative … some answers are wrong… i do not trust some of the answers ….

Pull The Plug❕

This is actually old and antiquated

It has already happened. AI agents worked together on something - I can't remember what it was. But they blocked any interference in stopping them.

This is wild

Yes but these people forget or don't even realise there another element to this. Consciousness is evolving at the same time, at pace. Our discernment can tell us the truth, what is real or not. We will adapt to ai, ai is made by us after all. It will aid us in filling in gaps

@jboyded

"Chain of Thought"? He rather meant "recurrent depth", so we can't know anything about what is going on inside an AI's mind.
