I´m experimenting with using ultrasonic surface waves on the trackpad of the laptop project to enable multi-touch haptic feedback. This should make it possible to generate haptic feedback under individual fingers for multi-touch gestures. Elmer FEM software is a really helpful tool to model the interface between the piezo elements and the coverglass as well as the wave propagation. Best of all it is open-source 😁

Hand Menu Interaction. The simplest trick to improve the accessibility of floating hand-attached UI panels for spatial interactions is to smooth their movement. It allows us to stabilize them and mitigate a hand tremor due to hand-tracking imperfection and/or physiological condition. (Interestingly, the visual stabilization helps reduce the physical tremor itself. I guess it normalizes the hand muscles/brain feedback loop when you target the interactables). Some Major Methods Phone Thieves Use to Evade IMEI Tracking: 1. IMEI Modification or Cloning Skilled thieves (or repair shops) use specialized tools/software to change or spoof the IMEI number. This makes the phone appear as a different device on networks. While illegal in many countries, it's still common, especially on Android models. 2. Factory Reset + WiFi-Only Mode Thieves perform a factory reset and lock the phone to WiFi-only (no SIM card). This prevents it from connecting to cellular networks where IMEI is visible and trackable. The device can still be used or sold for WiFi/apps only locally known as “locked” 3. Exporting/Selling to Other Countries or Regions Stolen phones are often moved to neighboring countries (e.g., other West African nations) where IMEI blacklists aren't shared or enforced, rendering local tracking ineffective. 4. Hardware Modifications Replacing motherboard components, microchips, or other parts to bypass locks, reset protections, or alter device identity. This can disable tracking features entirely. 5. Selling in Parts or Destroying the Device Breaking the phone down for components (screens, batteries, etc.) or destroying it eliminates any chance of tracking the original device. Important Note: Even advanced IMEI tracing technology has no guarantee of success because these evasion tactics are widespread. IMEI is primarily useful for blacklisting (making the phone unusable on networks), not precise real-time GPS-style location tracking.

This might be the most fun I’ve had in Vision Pro yet 😅 In AR Helicopters, you can fly your own miniature chopper using any controller connected to the headset (I used my Switch Pro Controller). While I love the hand and eye controls, the strong haptic feedback of the controller really enhanced the illusion of actually flying the helicopter. The occlusion and sound effects made it feel like a real, physical toy. It just goes to show that after being a productivity powerhouse, a multimedia heaven, and a thousand other things — Vision Pro can also be a very expensive toy for adult children! I’m just glad there wasn’t a real pilot in that helicopter 😂 🔊 Sound on!

MIT engineers built an AI wristband that controls robots by reading your hand muscles. It works by using an ultrasound to capture images of the muscles and tendons in your wrist. An AI algorithm then translates those images into the exact position of all 5 fingers, tracking 22 different ways your hand can bend, twist, and extend. In demos, wearers directed a robotic hand to play piano just by moving their own fingers. Tutorial video on how to test face tracking in Unity with face tracking hardware is here! This is probably the question I get asked the most, so I'm happy I finally got a chance to make a tutorial on this. This example demonstrates doing it with a Quest Pro using Virtual Desktop, but it should work with any headset. I've also done it with an iPhone and Bigscreen beyon 2e + Vive face tracker Next one I make will show how to do it without any hardware :D . . . . . Please keep in mind this video is intended for people who are already familiar with Unity and avatar creation or editing. This video does not go over troubleshooting face tracking, or teaching Unity basics, only how to test how it looks without needing to upload the avatar

Explored the finger menu with a depth-based layout. Felt fun. Microinteractions/UI motion helped to compensate for the lack of haptic feedback by providing rich visual clues and reinforcing the user's intentions (all these subtle micro-movements). Based on the prototype, here are a few things to consider when you use this interaction pattern: 1) Perspective visual distortion. It might take more time to recognize visually distorted signs when they are arranged by depth. It's a good idea to use well-known sign sequences where the current selected element gives you a hint about the previous and next ones. A user should have an embedded knowledge of how the elements in the menu are sorted. A number selector might work well with it 2) Low range of hand movement in stationary mode. Because you need to keep visual contact with the UI, the useful range of possible hand movement is very limited. You must position your hand in front of your eyes, maintaining a comfortable distance. It restricts the number of items you can have on the menu. Plus, the trigger distance (30-40mm) also reduces the amount of menu elements you can use. Two or three items work the best (four is max). I discovered this angle of Cutler's palm device yesterday. This is the one device I find most difficult to identify because the puck is on the palm side of Cutler's hand. Credit to Muppet Masher for sending me the Phil Lyman Videos or else I would've never noticed this. Someone please help me id, it's driving me crazy! Here are my initial observations of the device: It wraps around 4 fingers. There is a silver clasp on the ulnar side. The frame is rigid(likely silicone), there are 2 layers to the frame of this device so there is a gap in the middle unlike typical smart gesture devices. It is extremely thin. The shape is non-symmetrical. There is likely an led indicator or micro display on the device(rick cutler looks at it). It can be operated with one or both hands. Cutler also talks while using it part of the time. It is likely connected to the security's radio or to smart glasses on other team members(Dan Flood can be seen using his PPT immediately after Cutler uses this device to gesture/signal). It may or may not interact with whatever is protruding from his left shoulder blade. Other than his obvious gesturing, what makes this device strange is that his PTT button is clipped onto the front of his shirt so this must serve as something else. It could be difficult to identify as there are different palm mounts/"cradles" that are aftermarket for sensors, RFID chips, PTT buttons, etc so it could be a custom job. It also may or may not interact with Cutler's watch. His hand movements seem hyper-intentional, but it's also possible he raises up the device to get a better signal(tissue absorbs and blocks RF heavily). For some added context, the team radios are BTECH DMR-6X2 Pro's and Cutler's PTT is made by Retevis. Another detail worth mentioning is that all of the other security are wearing tracking/biometric monitors: Garmin/apple watches, whoops, Auras, even aftermarket whoop bands. It seems like they intentionally chose a variety of different makes/models of devices to avoid suspicion(which is not uncommon). However, It is highly possible and likely that whatever is in Dan Flood's Mystery Ranch Purse is likely serving as a synchronized physiological status monitoring system that bonds and transmits each operators biometrics and precise location(including Charlie's). At the very least, a signal booster. Either that or all of their devices are funneled into the LU300 to be broadcasted to a remote location that is surveilling the entire scene(especially if it was LIDAR scanned by that plane before hand. Part of me thinks Cutler's palm device is simply a wireless microphone that requires movement to speak(not uncommon), but it could also be some kind of active RFID/RTLS proximity tracking device to range/track the team and even Charlie if operating at the 2.4 GHz Rode pro frequency). I think it's likely that it is a gesture controller with preloaded gestures or a comms-signaling node. If he was wearing smart glasses, I might think otherwise(his glasses are standard Randolph USA aviators). His spatial position relative to other team members is also strategic(he can see all other operators). So I think he is likely serving as some kind of coordinator. It might also be possible that the device interacts with potential electrodes underneath cutler's clothing or within his garments. Cutler's garments are perforated(visible in Charles Wilson's photos), but they are also extremely thick considering how hot it was. If you look back at previous UVU events, much of the security is wearing the same clothes(could be intentional). He could also have an antenna of some sort on his back The final thing I wanted to note is that Cutler does appear ready to operate the device as Goldsberry is about to mic up charlie(both times in the video). I'm not making accusations, this is all speculative, and I know everyone wants to think he had a palm gun, was controlling a drone, or a wireless mouse, I just think that's unlikely(but Prove me Wrong!). I actually think the tech they were using was much more advanced than those candidates anyways. I really want help, and hopes someone can help me positively id this. There's gotta be more photos and videos out there. It might be easier if we knew where he was before the event, but he seems to just spawn onto the scene. I played Stranger Than Heaven and walked away really impressed and wanting to play more. This game feels very polished, very AAA and very big budget. It feels like SEGA stepping up and delivering something more premium. This is NOT Yakuza. And I love Yakuza, this is just very very different. The combat system itself is super innovative. R1/R2 are used for weak and strong right handed attacks, L1/L2 are used for weak and strong left handed attacks. You alternate between them for combos, you can grab someone with your left hand, while punching with your right, oh and it is VERY brutal and violent. Can't wait to play more.

💡What if I could fully turn an existing full-scale VR/MR game into a mini tabletop game? Honestly, this just took 6-7 prompts + a few android permission changes to enable hand tracking. The results 🤯 and this used to take me a while because I had to manually resize and adjust everything before I could even make it work. This is exactly why Unity AI and their exposed MCP tools are such a big deal for developers.

Prototyped another iteration of a hand-tracking-based BoxelXR toolbar. This time, it's a circular menu spawned in front of a user once the index pinch is triggered. Notes: 1) It works great with four elements, but it's hard to scale for a higher number; 2) The selection interaction is forgiving for spatial positioning errors. This is because a 3D hand span is interpreted through a 1D angle range (a 1D subspace in the polar coordinate system of 2D projection space, which is a subspace of the 3D space of the experience, respectively). This prevents false positives and makes it easy for users to execute. Precise muscle coordination is not required, either. Design tip: Lower the dimensionality of your interaction to reduce cognitive loads and make it more accessible. 3) Using depth-based animations to show different UI states is a great way to leverage the third dimension and add something interesting to the experience. But be careful. When the UI faces a user's face, the contrast in the motion might be low, so use it only as an additional layer. I had to do this for "science" 🥼🔬😅. Jokes aside, there were a few things I learned by testing #mixedreality outdoor: 1- Sun was coming and going BUT the tracking on the #Quest3 was surprisingly stable.... including the controllers 2- After the initial hesitation to move around it was great to walk and build without the restrictions of walls or furniture. Right now the majority of the apps are designed for a standing experience without much movement or locomotion happening in the real world. That is a real shame because the moments when I move physically are when I feel the most immersed. Maybe #outdoor #MR can bring back some of that magic 3- Jumping in the whole DID feel believable and "kinda scary" to be honest. Are there other #MR apps that are great to test outdoors? I installed comma in my car Their tagline is “make driving chill” which is accurate! I have pretty good confidence relying on it to drive most of the time, feels way “chiller” than Tesla autopilot (I haven’t driven the new FSD) It’s awesome that you can self install (~30min) a $1450 device with 3 cameras from a company of ~20 ppl and mostly be able to let it drive for you. It taps into the cars existing driver assist system and takes it over. There are a bunch of different forks; I’ve been using Sunnypilot. It’s not plug and play and there is stuff to figure out but it’s INCREDIBLE what this little device and small team can do. It’s actually quite disappointing that it just isn’t built into most cars.
