Today, CNBC released a new video with Consumer Reports comparing driver-assist systems. But there's a problem… in the video, they used Tesla's Autopilot, not Tesla's FSD (Supervised), and compared that to the top offerings in other automakers' cars. CNBC also claimed that Tesla lacked an effective driver monitoring camera, but Tesla does have one—so much so that some Tesla owners complain about its sensitivity. Camera based driver attention monitoring is less strict for Autopilot than it is for FSD (Supervised). Not once in the video did they test the latest version of Tesla's FSD. Consumer Reports says Ford and GM have the best driver assist systems. The Mercedes system they praise in the video is extremely limited and can only work on highways. Tesla's FSD (Supervised) will work on virtually any road in the US/Canada.

Elon Musk in a new interview this morning on Tesla FSD: "In terms of having self-driving be ubiquitous, I think we’re making steady progress. The Tesla Full Self-Driving software, which is really just AI and cameras, we don’t use radars or LIDAR or anything like that. It’s really trying to drive the car in the same way that a human drives the car, primarily with vision and with a biological neural net. We take the same approach with our vehicles, which is a digital neural net and cameras. I expect this approach to ultimately be at least an order of magnitude safer than humans driving. It is quite magical because the car feels like it is sentient. It actually feels like it’s alive and you can actually, as we improve the software, feel the sentience growing in the car. We already have some vehicles operating with no people inside with no safety monitors in three cities in Texas and probably will be widespread in the US by the end of this year and hopefully in Israel too" Tesla FSD is beginning to feel more and more sentient with each update, it’s incredible. All without the use of Radar or LiDAR. It’s all about the 🧠.

Tesla’s vision-only approach to solve FSD got laughed at for many years. People called it reckless, said just cameras would never be enough, and even claimed Tesla was cutting corners. Fast forward to today, it’s pretty clear who was right. “It’s so obvious you can solve this with cameras. Why wouldn’t you solve with cameras? It’s 2026. The self-driving problem is not a sensor problem, it’s an AI problem. The cameras have enough information already. It’s a problem of extracting the information, which is an AI problem.” - Ashok Elluswamy, VP of AI at Tesla. Just like us humans, we drive with eyes, we walk with eyes, literally we do everything with our eyes. We don’t have lidar spinning and laser beams on our heads. We simply see the world and our brain figures it out… all from vision. For so many years, the industry treated autonomy like it was a hardware problem. Like “if cameras struggle, just add more sensors.” That’s exactly how companies like Waymo ended up with sensor towers that look like crazy science projects. So ugly btw too… That approach might have made sense in 2008, but not today! Bc back then, AI wasn’t good enough to truly understand the world. So engineers had no choice but to lean on lidar and radar for help. But today, cameras capture insane amounts of information, I’m talking billions of pixels every second. The thing that was missing was AI intelligence. And when AI can understand why a car is slowing or why a pedestrian is hesitating, or real world things, you just need a better brain instead of more sensors. And now, everyone else is realizing this… the future of autonomy was always about understanding the world through vision, just like we humans do. That’s the bet that Elon and Tesla made early on… he was already years ahead of everyone, when everyone was doubling down on LiDAR and radar, even when so many people mocked them for switching early. Lemonade gains access to the vehicle's telemetry data, which distinguishes between miles driven by FSD and miles driven by the human. The program is rolling out first in Arizona this month, then Oregon, with potential expansion to other states. Depending on several factors, FSD could essentially pay for itself through the savings.

Tesla also deployed 13.5 GWh of energy storage, saw strong growth in China, and continued its recovery in Europe. The biggest takeaway? Forget UPL, it's the Devin's simple right hand turn that FSD needs to master first. I am blown away that software as good as FSD can make mistakes as simple but devastating as this. This is the second time in less than two weeks that FSD has tried to pull infront of a vehicle on a VERY SIMPLE right hand turn. The car drove pretty much flawlessly all day today (3~ hours of driving) but it ends the day with a move like this and it just takes all the confidence I have with FSD away in a simple move. I understand that the version of FSD we have today is not what will be used in Austin in June, but the fact that FSD is making decisions like this and 'full autonomy' is less than 3 months away - it's a bit concerning to me. I would feel a bit better if a near flawless version of FSD existed 'in the wild' for several months before Austin happens, but that's just me. Tesla Model 3 HW4 FSD 13.2.8 Tesla AI Ashok Elluswamy

$RIVN $TSLA Now I know why Tesla influencers are mad. Rivian just put a fork in the road for FSD monopoly. First initial reaction after 30 minutes of testing Rivian Universal Hands Free. In the video below, the car is doing all the work on back roads. FYI, Universal Hands Free is not equivalent to FSD yet, but point to point coming out in 2026 should put Rivian right up there. Here is the fork in the road: 1. Claim: Everyone will license FSD from Tesla. Reality: Rivian will release point to point next year. 2. Claim: Everyone is 10 years behind Tesla in autonomous driving. Reality: Rivian is only about 1.5 years behind. 3. Claim: LiDAR is too expensive. Reality: It costs around $200. 4. Claim: Multiple sensors cause confusion and delayed decision making. Reality: With early sensor fusion, there is no confusion or added complexity. 5. Claim: Tesla is the only software defined company. Reality: Rivian licenses its software to VW for $5 billion beating Tesla to it.

FSD has now covered over 12.6 billion miles, with nearly 4.9 billion of those driven in cities, where the hazards are densest. With FSD engaged, Tesla reports 7 times fewer major collisions, 7 times fewer minor collisions, and 5 times fewer off-highway collisions. What makes that interesting is how strictly the company counts against itself. If FSD was active at any point in the 5 seconds before a crash, it goes down as an FSD collision. That includes cases where the driver grabbed the wheel back or the system handed control over right before impact. Tesla also assigns no fault at all. If another car runs a red light and hits a Tesla on FSD, it still counts against FSD. Collisions are defined by federal standard rather than company preference, using airbag deployment for major crashes and a velocity change of 8 km/h within 150 milliseconds for minor ones. The data pipeline behind it is enormous. In one quarter alone, Tesla pulled 2.5 billion telemetry packages from the fleet. Most safety claims in this industry rest on a company's word. If another car runs a red light and hits a Tesla on FSD, it still counts against FSD. Collisions are defined by federal standard rather than company preference, using airbag deployment for major crashes and a velocity change of 8 km/h within 150 milliseconds for minor ones. The data pipeline behind it is enormous. In one quarter alone, Tesla pulled 2.5 billion telemetry packages from the fleet. Most safety claims in this industry rest on a company's word.
