I made the exact same tips to a friend during a round yesterday. He was also cross pivoting. He then proceeds to par the last three holes coming in. He wants to know when we can play again. I've created a monster.

At the start of this year, Phil Mickelson had a crushing ball speed of 165mph. Within 2 months he upped that to high 170’s and topping over 180. That’s an incredible jump for a man in his 50’s! He puts it down to training with speed sticks and explains how he has to change his release the faster he gets. “What I do notice is as I speed the swing up, I have to change the release point of my golf swing. I use length to create the leverage that I want, so it takes a lot of pressure off. But, as I do that, I have to change where the release is. But if I speed up, when I get down to the ball the face will be open. So I have to feel like I’m releasing the club a little bit earlier.” Lefty is a master at going deep in explaining the technicals of the golf swing. How is it possible that this swing can shoot around even par on a golf course I've never played or even seen before? Here's just a few god awful looking swings of mine due to the fact my back was in pain every shot... (lower back seized up) You know what I learned from playing golf crippled... I learned that you don't actually need to do much to play good golf & hit the golf ball where you want I was swinging the club no faster than 95mph (If I was lucky), I did however hit it pretty damn straight most of the time, got up & down a lot, & holed a few putts I wasn't trying to stop early extension. I wasn't trying to "drop it in the slot". I wasn't trying to "get open at impact (I couldn't). All I tried to do was swing my arms & control where the face was at impact I played better golf than 99% of golfers on the planet & I had no speed + a crippled lower back I think we need to ask ourselves what is truely required to play good golf. It actually doesn't take that much...

With the announcement of Tiger Woods’ 7th back operation, I have to ask — is the modern golf swing setting up an entire generation of golfers for injury? That style with the feet planted, the vertical jump, and steep shoulders puts tremendous strain on the lower back. Today, most golfers keep both feet firmly planted on the ground throughout the swing. For me, that makes it much harder to make a full turn, develop a natural rhythm, and generate effortless power. The classic swing allowed the greats to move freely, create speed, and play for decades. Mitch Johnson was asked why it was so difficult for Victor Wembanyama to get involved offensively in the first half, and what changed in the second half: "We've had that conversation before, and I understand the discourse around it. I think it's a little bit of all of it. I have to make sure that there's environments that the ball finds him. I think he's got to make sure that he can't rely on that to get shots, as well. There were times, I think, when he was open on rolls or around the paint and his teammates got to get him the ball. I think it's a combination of all that. Bryson DeChambeau speaks about the balance between control and power in his golf game: “Golf isn't about hitting it 400 yards. I proved that a couple years ago. You've got to have a good wedge game, good putting, good iron play. So there is a balance. “But I'm never not pursuing how to swing it faster or have it come off the face faster and then learn how to control it. That's kind of my goal. I always go to how hard can I swing it, and then how do a back off of that. It's just my mentality. So I'll forever be pursuing a little bit of speed as time goes on. “This golf course, you can't swing it hard out here. You can hit it far, but you have to control your ball more than you can kind of just bomb it and let it go wherever. Fairways are tight. “I'll forever be chasing speed. Hopefully the technology can catch up with where our swing speeds are going because right now, any minor mis-hit can make the ball go quite a bit off line. James Harrison says if he knew the NFL would fine him $75,000 for his hit on Mohamed Massaquoi, he would have tried to deliver the most grotesque hit in NFL history “I want you to run back that play. Look at that play. When I hit him, my toes barely came up. Go look at the picture, go look at the live view. They elevated me. It’s no way I could have hit him like that. He was already crouching. Cameron Young is playing with a golf ball that would allegedly be compliant with the new roll back rules that will come into effect in a few years time. He was asked about it ahead of the PGA Championship and he says every player in the game is sacrificing distance for control, and he put it in play at the Wyndham last year which he won. “I think I put it in play the same reason that everybody else plays the ball that they play. I hit it during a ball test, one of the Titleist facilities probably close to two years ago and didn't know anything about it and just kind of say, hey, what's that one? Because I liked the flight. “Then as things progressed, I was able to test it last year at Wyndham, able to put that in play, and it's been there since. “Obviously there is no conforming list. I wasn't aware that it would have -- I suppose I read something that said it passed that test, but I wasn't aware of that until very recently. “So at no point was that a consideration. It was just really me trying to optimize my golf, and it's the ball that seems to work the best for me.” He then was asked whether he lost distance with it compared to other balls he’s tested: “Not particularly. I don't think any of us are out really here playing the ball that goes the farthest. I think you'd struggle to find a single person that's doing that. We're all sacrificing a certain amount of things that we feel are worth it, control with irons, control with wedges. For me, that's the biggest thing is being able to control spin, and this is the ball that does the best for me.” Finally he can as asked whether this ball goes further than the one he was using: “No, I hit very similar, yeah. Happy 100th birthday to Bob Toski, the 1954 PGA Tour money winner who became a Hall of Fame teaching professional! Toski, a five-time PGA Tour winner who weighed in at 118 pounds in his playing days, was nicknamed 'Mouse' by Sam Snead for his small-but-mighty ethos. The Massachusetts native left the Tour at age 30 to spend more time with his young family, and he found success as a no-nonsense golf instructor who believed strongly in the hands' role in the swing and the power of the mind. In 2013, Toski was inducted into the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame. "I'm not just a teacher of mechanics," Toski said. "Golf is a mind game. You become what you think you are. Fernando Tatis Jr is hitting .242 with a 3.5° average launch angle and a career-low 20% pull rate. Everyone has ideas and analysis on how to fix Fernando Tatis Jr’s swing. It’s pretty awful and I can’t take anymore of this, I have to say something because I haven’t seen a single person give the right answer. I’ve seen multiple people talk about timing mechanisms like toe tap, stride, and leg lift in his swing mechanics that have absolutely nothing to do with his problem. That reverting to past timing mechanisms would somehow help him. THEY ARE ALL WRONG Because they’re all looking in the wrong place. This isn’t a stride problem or timing problem. It’s a tilt problem. Stride, leg lift, and toe tap are timing mechanisms. They control WHEN the hips fire not HOW the bat moves through the zone. A hitter with a Sosa leg kick and a no-stride Ichiro stance can produce identical launch angles.Timing has no lever that touches the bat at contact. What actually sets launch angle is attack angle or the vertical direction the bat is traveling at the moment it meets the ball. Swing up through the zone = ball lifts Swing flat = grounders Swing down = choppers Attack angle is the only mechanical input that matters for elevation and attack angle isn’t random. It’s a direct output of shoulder tilt. When the trail shoulder drops below the lead shoulder at contact, the entire swing axis tilts. The bat is now forced to travel upward through the zone. More tilt > steeper attack angle > higher launch angle. Period. Tatis’s attack angle tells the entire story: 2023: +12° attack angle, +1° pull-side direction/25 HRs 2024 : +10° attack angle. -2° oppo direction 21HRs in 104 games 2025: +8° attack angle, 0° direction/25 HRs, healthy 2026: +5° attack angle, −5° oppo direction His swing has flattened AND drifted away from his pull side. Both are tilt collapse. That −5° oppo attack direction is the giveaway. When you lose tilt, your bat doesn’t just flatten it also gets steered toward the opposite field, because a level swing naturally pushes the barrel away from your pull side. He’s not late. He’s not under-striding. His axis collapsed Over the last few years and it’s worse than ever this year. This explains the 20% pull air rate too. Pulling the ball in the air requires positive attack angle AND a contact point out front. (Ramon Laureanos 2025 attack Angle was +14) If you tinker with timing on a flat swing, an earlier contact point just produces a pull-side grounder. The direction changes. The launch angle does not. Let me break it down for you: Stride > Weight Shift > Hip Rotation >TILT > ATTACK ANGLE > BAT PATH > Contact > Launch Angle Stride is four steps upstream. Tilt is the gate. Attack angle is the output that actually moves the ball. So now we know what’s wrong, how do we fix him? Souza and the Padres staff need to focus on the following; 1.Restore 8–12° rear-high shoulder tilt 2.Get attack angle back to +10° to +12° with neutral or +1° pull direction 3.THEN evaluate timing tweaks 4. If someone is telling him to flatten out his swing or to let the ball travel more PLEASE STOP DOING THAT. That doesn’t work for him You cannot time your way to elevation. Fix the tilt. Forget UPL, it's the Devin's simple right hand turn that FSD needs to master first. I am blown away that software as good as FSD can make mistakes as simple but devastating as this. This is the second time in less than two weeks that FSD has tried to pull infront of a vehicle on a VERY SIMPLE right hand turn. The car drove pretty much flawlessly all day today (3~ hours of driving) but it ends the day with a move like this and it just takes all the confidence I have with FSD away in a simple move. I understand that the version of FSD we have today is not what will be used in Austin in June, but the fact that FSD is making decisions like this and 'full autonomy' is less than 3 months away - it's a bit concerning to me.
