Today in Quetta, the ATC extended the remand of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other BYC leaders by another 15 days. That makes ninety days under the 3MPO, fifteen in illegal custody, and sixty-five in police remand—nearly six months of imprisonment without a shred of evidence. For 57 days we have protested in Islamabad with nothing but our voices and our resolve. Inside parliament, ministers claim BYC’s fate lies with the courts. Outside, we see how those courts truly function: judges removed for refusing to extend remand, suspended FIRs revived when televised lies collapse. The laws used against the Baloch were never written to protect us; they were designed to justify our persecution. And when a judge, after fifty years in law, chooses the colonel over the constitution, what remains is only disgrace. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of BYC leaders. Their imprisonment has never been about law or evidence. It is about silencing those who organize peacefully, who invoke the Constitution instead of the gun, who insist that the voices of Baloch families cannot be erased. Urgent Update on BYC Leaders Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other leaders of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) were supposed to be presented in court yesterday. They were not produced. Instead, they were quietly presented today without informing their families or lawyers. An additional five day remand was granted. At the same time, internet services were suspended to block information. This is a blatant violation of Pakistan’s Constitution: Article 10-A – Right to a fair trial Article 10 – Safeguards against arbitrary arrest and detention Shockingly, this hearing was held on September 6th (Defense Day), a national holiday in Pakistan, and when no lawyers were present in court. We are deeply concerned about the safety of BYC leaders who are being detained on false charges. We demand a clear, impartial, and fair trial. We urge the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take immediate notice of this matter, and we call on international human rights organizations to monitor and raise their voices against this unfair trial. Unlawful Detention of BYC Leaders and Denial of Access to Families and Legal Counsel Constitute Grave Human Rights Violations On June 8th, leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) were unlawfully transferred from Hudda District Prison in Quetta to the Civil Lines Police Station on a 10-day remand. Since their transfer, they have not been seen, and authorities have denied access to both their families and legal counsel. This complete lack of transparency has raised serious concerns about their safety, including fears of potential torture in custody. In response, the families of the detained leaders gathered in front of the Civil Lines Police Station to demand their legal and moral right to visit their loved ones. The Superintendent of Police informed them that no meetings would be permitted without a court order. However, even after obtaining the necessary court directives, police have continued to deny access. Only the mothers of Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Beebow Baloch have been granted brief visits, while all other family members and legal representatives remain barred. In protest against these illegal and authoritarian actions, the families have initiated a peaceful sit-in outside the Civil Lines Police Station. We urgently call on national and international human rights organizations to intervene and hold the responsible authorities accountable. Once again, without reviewing any progression in the case, the judges granted another ten-day remand, which proves that the judges and the judicial system have completely failed to deliver justice. These institutions, which claim to represent justice, are actually demolishing the justice system. They were originally established to uphold justice, but they are now utterly failing. These judges have no integrity—whether it’s out of fear or because of rewards they may have received. The Pakistani judicial system has entirely collapsed, and in its place stands a rule of injustice. We have always made it clear that our struggle is for the implementation of justice. We demanded that missing persons be brought before the courts. Whatever the state is doing to the Baloch people should at least go through the legal system, there must be legality. But instead, the justice system itself is being weaponized against us as a tool of repression. This is not just injustice against us: it is a tragedy for the entire Pakistani judicial system. Press Conference Respected Members of the Press, I stand before you today to share the gross violations of the basic human rights of the Baloch people in this state. As many of you are aware, last night at Karachi Airport and in its vicinity, state intelligence agencies, the FIA, and the Sindh Police violated my fundamental rights as a citizen and subjected us to indefensible treatment. An internationally renowned magazine, TIME, included me in this year’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and I was invited to attend their event in New York. My flight was scheduled to depart from Karachi to New York last night. After completing all the required procedures at Jinnah International Airport, the Immigration Department unjustly prevented me from boarding. When I sought an explanation, the FIA officer walked away without providing any reasons. I was detained at the airport for five hours without legal justification. After my flight had departed and as we were leaving, a female FIA officer confiscated my passport and refused to return it. It took over an hour of negotiations before she reluctantly handed it back. When we finally departed for home, just five minutes into our drive, state intelligence agents and Sindh Police officers stopped our car. Sammi Deen Baloch and another female friend accompanied me. The officers immediately removed our driver, assaulted him, and immobilized the car by taking its keys. They opened all the doors and thoroughly searched the vehicle, including underneath our seats. When we attempted to speak to them, we were forcibly dragged out of the car, our scarves were yanked off, and we were subjected to verbal abuse and severe harassment. They then forcibly seized our bags, taking my passport, mobile phone, and car keys. We were stranded on a deserted road very late at night. Two vehicles approached us, and the individuals inside further harassed us, hurling obscene insults before leaving. Feeling unsafe, we abandoned our car, took a taxi, and went home. It was a painful and distressing ordeal to endure such inhumane treatment in this country, merely because I am a human rights activist and a Baloch, treated worse than animals. Respected Members of the Press, The events of last night, where I was unjustly prevented from traveling and subjected to such inhumane treatment, clearly demonstrate that the state of Pakistan has deprived us of even the most basic right to live. It is evident that human rights no longer exist for us. Despite holding a valid U.S. visa and an official invitation from an international magazine, I was detained for five hours at Karachi's international airport, prohibited from traveling, harassed, and had my belongings confiscated. If this is how I was treated, imagine the kind of treatment the ordinary Baloch people endure in Balochistan. Through this press conference, I want to send a clear message to the state and its institutions: such tactics will neither silence us nor deter us from raising our voices against the violations of human rights in Balochistan. On the contrary, these actions only strengthen our resolve, and we will continue to organize and speak out against the abuse and genocide of the Baloch people. Dr. Mahrang's latest statement::: I am #MahrangBaloch. Now, I am addressing all of you from Islamabad, Pakistan. I hope you are in any part of the world at this time, and if you are a humanitarian person, then you will listen to our voice, and you will raise your voice against the Baloch Genocide and help us. Baloch genocide has been going on for decades in Balochistan, in which thousands of our elders, youth, children and women have forcibly disappeared, our people are being extra-judicially killed, and our people are being forcefully displaced from their hometowns. Military operations are being carried out in our areas, our resources are being looted, and this Genocide of our nation is intensifying day by day. Against this severe Baloch genocide, we held a peaceful sit-in for 13 days in Turbat Balochistan, and after 13 days, we started a peaceful long march which started from Turbat and traveled hundreds of kilometers to Islamabad, has reached the capital of Pakistan. Today is the 32th day of our mass movement against the Baloch genocide, but in this whole mass movement, from the sit-in to the long march all over Balochistan, the State has used extreme force to stop and end the movement; false FIRs were registered against our people, our friends were subjected to physical violence, our friends were arrested, and when we were faced of all these violence and conspiracies and when we reached Islamabad then we were stopped from going to the Islamabad Press Club and after being stopped for three to four hours, the Islamabad police started torturing us. We were accompanied by small children, women, elderly and young people. All of them were subjected to severe torture; water cans and tear gas were used on us during the night in extreme cold, injuring many of our innocent children, women, elderly and youth. And after we were all arrested, there were about 80 women and children, and more than 200 were our youth. After releasing the women and children last night, an attempt was made to evict them from Islamabad forcefully, but we resisted for 7 to 8 hours, and then we were released. Still, more than 100 of our friends are in the custody of Islamabad police and are not being produced in court, while 14 of our friends have forcibly disappeared, and we are not being given any information about them, nor are we getting any information about them. We need help from the whole world right now. You, as a human being, can stop the genocide of a nation by helping us; if you want another holocaust not to happen, then you have to stop the genocide of the Baloch nation by helping us. Still, more than 100 of our friends are in the custody of Islamabad police and are not being produced in court, while 14 of our friends have forcibly disappeared, and we are not being given any information about them, nor are we getting any information about them. Nancy Guthrie In a nutshell, the Pima County Board of Supervisors asked for written responses from Sheriff Nanos re: their concerns. They have the right to demand answer under statute. Sheriff Nanos answered within the time allotted. The Board has no legal authority to remove Sheriff Nanos since he answered timely. One member asked for him to be removed. That motion was not seconded, thus that's the end of that. The Board will ask the Arizona Attorney General to review potential perjury charges. We shall see where that leads. Sheriff Nanos will stay and I don't see the recall election moving forward. END UNFAIR TRIAL OF BYC LEADERS! Rule of Law, fair trial and justice have become myths in Pakistan. More than 14 months have passed since Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her companions have been kept in jail under baseless accusations and unlawfully detained. Despite the absence of evidence, they have been detained, harassed and mentally tortured in jail. Against these injustices and violations of the rule of law, Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her companions are protesting inside the jail, where they have organised a “Dharna.” If their demands are not met, they will proceed with a “Token Hunger Strike” inside the jail. The trials have shifted from prison-based hearings to a virtual court system, where faceless trials are being conducted and the judge and other parties participate remotely, while the State seeks a speedy conclusion of the proceedings. Their demands are simple and clear: 1) End online and jail trials and restore hearings in open court so that judicial proceedings are transparent and accessible to the public. 2) Replace the current judge, Mobin, as he has been biased towards the state regarding the case from day one. The organisation's leaders have filed a court application for the judge's replacement, which should be heard soon and a new impartial judge should be assigned to hear this case. 3) Suspend the case until the judge's replacement and the commencement of open court proceedings. We once again request all human rights organisations, journalists, politicians, social and political unions, humanitarians and the Baloch nation to raise their voices against state barbarism and spread awareness about the ongoing injustice and online trial of BYC leaders. The Pakistani state shows no sign of relenting in its targeting of the Baloch. ​Because of this, every single instance of enforced disappearance or extrajudicial killing especially those not yet registered with any official organisation must be documented immediately. It is the responsibility of the families to ensure these cases are recorded. ​The Baloch Yakjehti Committee is currently working on this documentation process. We urge everyone to contact the BYC to register their cases via: 1: ​Social Media Accounts 2: ​Official Email 3: ​BYC Human Rights Representatives. We request that you submit these cases as soon as possible. We know from experience that when a case is not registered or part of a formal record, and that person is subsequently killed and dumped, the family and the organisation are left without the necessary evidence to prove they were forcibly disappeared.
