The PCB’s in today’s smartphones contain an ever-increasing density of components and integration. The iPhone uses “Substrate-Like” PCB technology to achieve impressive levels of component density, everything is so closely packed, and no space is wasted. With this PCB technology, a "PCB sandwich" could be made by creating cavities in an FR4 PCB substrate and then stacking another PCB on top to form a lid, the “walls” formed by the cavities can be plated and then used as interconnects. This is similar to hollowing out the inside of a loaf of bread and then filling it with cheese & ingredients – or components in this case! Apple has been using Substrate-Like PCBs since the iPhone X and has been evolving and iterating it with every new iPhone release. When winding a toroid, it is recommended to evenly distribute the windings for better core utilisation and to reduce parasitic capacitance, but what happens if you bunch the turns closely, does the inductance increase or decrease? This video shows the inductance calculation in real time for an RF toroid as the windings spread is changed, I also did measurements to compare between evenly distributed and tightly grouped windings using the LDC1314 Inductance to Digital Converter from Texas Instruments

I’ve created procedural generators of ICs and connectors using geometry nodes. Due to the large number of different packages of ICs and connectors, it might be better to generate their models as and when needed rather than storing an unlimited number of unique 3D models. The magnetic field calculations are updated in realtime with no lag in EEVEE with a compositor node setup. This demo shows how the impedance of DC decoupling capacitor is impacted by its distance from the IC, and the number of vias under the IC and near the capacitor. New update on combining FastHenry and Blender 🔶 , I've added the ability to calculate the mutual inductance between objects! Also developed a basic UI inside Blender to visualise the results and to highlight the inductively coupled objects. This video shows some examples of what can be donw now. First demo shows how you can model the impedance of die bond wires and the coupling to adjacent wires, you make adjustments to their lengths and curvatures and see the results in near-real-time. Second demo shows calculating inductances and mutual inductance of air-core inductors with arbitrary positions and deformations. Third demo shows simulating PCB coils over a range of frequencies for applications such as wireless power and distance sensing. I've improved how the simulation results are visualised, the entire objects now gets overlaid with a colour rather than using bound boxes. Red is for showing the self-inductance of a selected objected, yellow for mutually coupled objects and blue for conductive plane objects.
