Indian Railways has run its first double-stack long-haul (422km distance) container train from JNPT to Varnama in Vadodara division — carrying 360 TEUs. The 1.3km rake left at 7 pm on 21 August 2026, formed by combining two double-stack rakes. (One TEU is one long 20-foot container.)

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) successfully conducted a rail car inspection from Vaitarna to JNPT Port, the final point of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) recently, covering a distance of approximately 102 kms. This historic inspection marks the first-ever movement on the newly constructed DFCCIL track of the JNPT–Vaitarna Section, a critical segment of the WDFC.
