After 8+ years on the Tesla Autopilot team and 3 years at Intel, I started Apex Compute to design a new architecture for efficient AI inference. For the past 9 months, we’ve been building our custom inference accelerator. Today we’re releasing Unified Engine v1. Last June we raised our seed round with Maxitech , DeepFin Research, Soma Capital and an incredible group of angel investors. In less than 9 months, we completed our RTL architecture and brought our first pre-silicon prototype to life on FPGA. Our architecture combines systolic array and vector processing in a single compute engine with multiple architectural optimizations, achieving very high FLOPs utilization. A single engine is super lean and it uses less than 90K LUTs and 1 MB Block RAM. It may also be one of the smallest logic-footprint compute engines developed so far. Our Unified Engine v1 supports: -matrix-matrix multiplication (~95% FLOPs utilization) -softmax (~90% FLOPs utilization) -broadcast and element-wise operations -RMSNorm / LayerNorm -block quantization/dequantization (fp4, int4) -multi-engine synchronization and many other operations. We even implemented memory-efficient attention similar to FlashAttention, reaching ~90% FLOP utilization. Full benchmarks and the software stack are available on our GitHub: We have basic compiler written in Python and it supports PyTorch tensors directly to easily test and transfer tensors between the accelerator and host using bf16, fp4 and int4 formats. Our FPGA prototype can already run LLM inference and outperform NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano, even on a mid-tier FPGA setup (6.4x lower memory bandwidth, 18% slower clock speed at 4.5 Watts). Our GitHub includes low-level operator implementations, examples for tiled matrix multiplication, operation chaining, tensor parallelism, attention kernel and a full Gemma 3 1B model implementation. ⚽ Day 42 of building my football/soccer game solo in Unreal Engine 5. Tonight, I rebuilt how the ball and the player's feet actually talk to each other while remaining separate meshes. I wanted to get pretty technical with y'all on a Saturday, so enjoy the read if you enjoy this stuff. Otherwise, just watch the video 👍 - Normal dribbling is impulse-based now. The foot arrives, knocks the ball on, the ball is genuinely loose between touches. Stop running and the ball keeps going without you. - We enabled Motion Warping on all 10 turn animations so the montages will now bend the player's path mid-turn so the boot arrives at the ball, instead of the ball being dragged to wherever the animator drew it previously. - Every contact is authored on the animation itself. I track which frame, which foot, which part of the boot, and whether it CARRIES the ball (sole on a drag-back) or STRIKES it (inside-of-the-foot on a 90) - Each contact declares how close the player needs to be. A sole on top of the ball, an inside-foot redirect and an outside-foot push all reach differently — 75 / 63 / 53 units - Touches are credited only to the foot the animation is actually dribbling with - Sideways and forward correction are capped separately. Pushing the ball across your line keeps it. Pushing it forward is how you lose it - Touch strength scales with your speed. The ball has to leave the foot ~1.27× faster than you're running just to stay ahead. This was an annoying bug I kept running into where I overran the ball and left it behind. I ditched Unreal for AI. Kaiju Engine is a completely AI written replacement. To prove it was ready for production, I tested it by recreating and porting my old game, Firefall, into Kaiju, purely from the Steam download, no source. And it worked. Real game code is messy, full of difficult details and compromises. If our engine could handle a commercially released game, it proves you can ship a game with it. We're developing 2 orders of magnitude faster (93x) by lines of code and features. We have fewer bugs, and iteration is super fast. Build times have gone from 30 mins (Unreal) to 36 seconds. Feature rate is through the roof, days instead of months. Our original engine for Firefall took 2-3 years and cost over 5M to build (adjusted). Our new engine was written in 5 months for a couple grand. We built only what we needed, with none of the Unreal bloat. And we added some features: - Modern meshlet based rendering with PBR. - Vis Buffer/Forward+ with clustered lighting. - Id Tech 5 style megatexture streaming. - Planetary sized renderer (entire solar systems possible). - Seamless flight from ground to orbit and space. - No loading screens. - Procedural planet generation with plate simulation. - Client/Server at all times. - Ozz for animation. Jolt for Physics. - Companion Blender plug-in for AI directed asset exports. - 140fps currently, 200-300 projected after optimizations. You can see Firefall's assets and levels ported over into our engine in the video. Texture resolution and pop-in are limitations of the original game (high rez CDN based textures were lost when game went offline, fog hid the original's pop-in). Our meshlet renderer will be able to do much better with LOD and already supports high rez textures. I used Grok/Codex/Claude to tag team the code. This is not just a boon for indie games, it's a real game changer for game preservation. The reaction to seeing this 10 year old discontinued game revived is very emotional for Firefall fans. But we're not just preserving Firefall, we're going beyond, creating an original game that is the spiritual successor, Em-8ER. Gliding, jumpjets... it's all coming back. ** Sega Genesis 3D engine update 8.5 ** A smaller update - Scrolling left or right of the sprite based background is implemented along with X camera shifting of the 3d plane. The Exodus emulator has been used with sprite boxing enabled so you can see the background sprites making up the object ( their outlines ) and how they move to tilt the image . The background is made up of 112 sprites (51 are multiplexed in that number as the Genesis is limited to 80 without mulitplexing eg basically re-using sprite hardware as the screen is being drawn ) . In a 6 x 17 sprite grid of 16x32 pixel high sprites. If the tilt affect was not neccessary or only 1/2 the angle of tilt effect was needed, I could get away with 1/2 the number of sprites and just used 32x32 sprites instead. I think the tilt effect adds a bit to movement however. This is very similar to how a Neo Geo would build its backgrounds up - in 16 pixel strips however its sprites are tall as the screen or more but the concept of making backgrounds up in 16 pixel wide strips is similar. The NG uses sprites to build any background layers required. Here on the Genesis the reason is rendering is much faster using both the 3d planes and using a total sprite background for this engine. Initially i had a lot of things breaking when I tried to move the camera in the X dimension much , as i'd optimised the vertex transform path heavily and once beyond a certain camera offset the X value was wrapping around causing a lot of breakage in the rendering. Thankfully solved that issue without marginal impact to cpu . It still needs work , perspectives are a bit wrong etc but it won't be hard to fix. Also found some rendering speeds ups, about 8% by optimising fully onscreen quads and optimising the clearing of the frame buffers more efficiently. Solon Lee (Producer at Kuro Games): Thank You for Playing My Game "Wuthering Waves: Exploring Game Creation Under Unreal Engine." Interview by Nvliu66 When you think of Unreal Engine, what comes to mind? A few days ago, at the Epic Games Shanghai office, I met the producers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Wuthering Waves. Both games are developed based on Unreal Engine, and they shared the stories behind their game creation. My biggest takeaway was that while a great game stems from a producer's emotional expression, its realization relies on the "escort" of technology. Let's return to the interview scene and listen once more to their unique insights on game development. Wuthering Waves and Unreal Engine Bill Clifford (VP and GM of Unreal Engine at Epic Games): With Wuthering Waves, they used many complex artistic techniques to present this anime style, and it's truly outstanding. They are among the first companies to create a role-playing game in an open world that is also cross-platform, which is another incredible feat. They introduced console-level graphics and combat systems while maintaining a consistent update frequency. Furthermore, as they adopt and integrate new Unreal Engine technologies into the game, the experience is continuously enhanced. It’s a truly inspiring success story. Solon Lee (Producer at Kuro Games): We have grown alongside the updates of the UE engine, including the release of UE5. Throughout the process, we’ve been able to learn from UE’s updates. When UE5 was released, it introduced many new technical features, especially ray tracing. Everyone currently praises the ray tracing effects in Wuthering Waves, which is actually due to the continuous updates of the engine. We found those highlights and ported them over to UE4.26. During this process, our engineers were learning the logic of the engine, following its updates, and developing an engineering mindset and a way of creating visual effects. So, my biggest personal takeaway is that choosing a top-tier engine doesn’t just make the game better; it makes us better in the process. "Punishing: Gray Raven" was developed on the Unity platform, while "Wuthering Waves" is based on Unreal. What was the reasoning behind this change at the time? Solon Lee: Psychologically, we don’t have a heavy dependence. We don't feel that just because we've used Unity, we must continue using it. We are a bit more pragmatic. When we were about to start Wuthering Waves, we clearly knew we wanted to make an open world. UE obviously offers more support for open worlds. We felt that "standing on the shoulders of giants" to make a game was definitely a more practical decision. At that time, we could also sense that most engineers in the industry had an aspiration toward UE. "Wuthering Waves" has been live for a year and a half. At this stage, could you use a short summary or a few words to introduce "Wuthering Waves" to the players? Solon Lee: Wuthering Waves is a game that strives to continuously create resonance with players. From the excitement and design of the action to the scriptwriting and performances, we strive to find "highlight segments" or moments in every version that can trigger internal resonance, touch the heart, or make players "scream" with excitement. This is actually a creative consensus our team has slowly formed over the past year. When we find that moment in a version and we ourselves "scream" for it, we feel that there is a high probability that when the version is released, it will be recognized by the users. Because the most important thing about a game is that it must be fun, as developers, we often think about what kind of game qualifies as "fun." What is a "Fun" Game? Solon Lee: One point I can think of right now is that the rules should be as simple as possible. As soon as you start, after two slashes or casting a skill, you should feel, "Wow, that was so cool! I want to do it again! Wow, so cool!" Specifically for action games, the "fun" is often hidden in very small granularities. For example, if you compare two different games where you are just running and jumping, the running in some games feels fun. Why? It might just be because the "grip" is better, the animation swing feels better, or it gives you a sense of gravity or momentum. Whether a point in a game is fun can be subjective. For me, there are a few games that have had a significant influence on my work. One is definitely NieR; when we were making Punishing: Gray Raven in the early days, we were very inspired by NieR. When Devil May Cry 5 came out, it gave us a lot of new inspiration for our combat system. Death Stranding is indeed one of my personal favorite games from recent years. When Elden Ring was released, it also gave us a very strong impression and touched us deeply. The project for Wuthering Waves started in the first half of 2020. At that time, there were very few open-world action games on the market because most action games back then were stage-based (linear/hub-based). All excellent action games required very tight level design. Later, Elden Ring came out, and experiencing it gave us strong resonance. We felt that action games definitely have potential in an open world, and we believe it should be that way. A Message to the Players Solon Lee: I am truly grateful that so many players like Wuthering Waves. Why the character movement in my custom game engine felt janky and how I fixed it. In a game engine, most often, a character moves using the physics engine. Meaning, the player is not just a coordinate in space but a physical body. It has velocity, it handles collisions, and it interacts with the world. Now, as you might know, physics engines need stability. If you run them at variable framerates, things start breaking. Objects phase through walls or fly off into space because the math becomes unpredictable. This is why most game engines lock their physics loop to a 60Hz fixed rate. But here’s the problem: If you have a high-end system, you don't want to limit it at 60 FPS. That's a waste of good hardware. Now, that said, if the GPU is rendering at 144 FPS but the player's position (physics driven) only updates 60 times a second, it creates a micro-stutter that ruins the "smooth" feel of the game. A good way to fix this is to treat the character as two separate things: 1. The Physics Body (Invisible part): This is the "real" character. It lives in the 60Hz physics world, it moves the player and handles collisions. 2. The Visual Model and Camera (Visible part): This is what the player actually sees. It doesn't care about collisions, its only job is to look nice and smooth at whatever framerate the GPU is pushing. Once you have this separation, you can use interpolation to keep them in sync. Every time the physics clock ticks, you save the previous position of the invisible body before moving it to the new one. Between those ticks, calculate how far we are between the last physics update and the next one. By using this to drive the visible parts of the game, the stutters disappear. The physics loop stays fixed behind the scenes, while the visuals slide smoothly between the snapshots. Example: - Right after a tick: blend_weight= 0.0 (The visual model stays at the old physics position). - Halfway to the next: blend_weight= 0.5 (The visual model slides to the middle point). - Just before the next: blend_weight= 0.9 (The visual model is almost at the new physics position). Pro-Tip A critical mistake I made initially, and one many devs make, is parenting the camera and visible parts directly to the player body. If you do this, the camera inherits the discrete 60Hz physics movement by default. In that setup, interpolation won't work because the camera is "stuck" to the physics clock. For this fix to work you must decouple the camera and visuals from the body and move them separately. Player movement processing in Detis Engine: - fixed_process: Physics runs at 60Hz. Handles collisions and raw movement. - process: Variable rate. Mainly used for player input caching in the player case. - late_process: Variable rate. Handles interpolated camera movement after physics and everything else is done being processed. - render. Submits the final interpolated transforms to the GPU. The test environment in the video is running on an old 2070-based laptop. Hopefully the video compression won't introduce any stutter... I’m sharing this in hopes it helps a fellow dev. Cheers.

We're bringing in some fun changes to Dremica this Sunday. Come try it out and see the progress. We can't have a Web3 game without degeneracy. Lokito's gambling antics have inspired a new way to play the game. On Sunday you'll be able to try your luck with your in game gold by spinning Big Boy's Wheel in an attempt to help you top the leaderboards. Also since we've added so much to the game it's time to look at the gameplay loop and its economy. Here's the changes I've proposed and my thoughts. Economic Simplicity We need your in game achievements to feel impactful. Dremica is designed as an MMO to give players freedom of how they play the game. Whether its killing monsters, leveling up tradeskills or playing with their gold. The common denominator for everything is XP (player levels). Even gold can be used to buy XP tomes from the shop to level up your skills. Now I propose we distribute our prize pool to players based on their levels. It's future-proof and allows us to add more features without breaking the core gameplay loops. All players will receive rewards from the SAMA prize pool based on their level obtained. Currently the Carnage prize pool is 100,000 SAMA so EVERY player will get a share of it based on what level they reach during the session. Your level / Total levels from all players * Prize pool = Your rewards. Also to keep that competitive spirit we'll be adding additional prizes for the top 10 on the leaderboard. When the Dremica BETA starts it allows us to simply add in a potential new tokenomic model and also allows PVP to plug into the system with ease. TLDR: More levels = more rewards. Why add in RNG-based mechanics (with the wheel?) Seeing the same people hit top 3 of the leaderboard each week isn't exactly exciting for new players. We can't have a stagnant monotonous grind, we need something dynamic. High-risk/high-reward scenarios change everything. Starting with Big Boy's wheel, we plan more exciting game play options including the new PVP zone in the beta. Personally I can't wait to see someone get super lucky and cause absolute havoc in the community. We're in the Alpha testing phase anyway, let's see how it unfolds. How can you make this sustainable? To make a Web3 game work, it needs to absorb more tokens than what are emitted. Dremica uses a fixed prize pool per session, if we can ensure enough utility that players spend their rewards and more than are emitted it can fund the gaming sessions indefinitely. Next month we're going to be focusing on pushing out the in-game SAMA shop where players can start spending the rewards they earn. It will be the first major step for Dremica to begin adding token utility. Additional utility is planned for the future whether its cosmetic-based rewards or unannounced mechanics. We've held back on planned tokenomic/ecosystem changes to focus on building the game first. If these happen there's only one chance to get it right. I think everyone knows gaming is one of the best use cases of Web3, just need to build a fun experience and keep people engaged. We've got enough time, runway and support to get Dremica up there in the Web3 gaming echelon. What else have you got planned? Each of the past months Dremica has been pushing out some hard-hitting updates and the game is truly taking shape. The team is working tirelessly to keep adding more features and improving the experience. Now that a lot of the core functionality required for an MMORPG is in, we can start to look at expansion. As you'll see later this week we're bringing in other projects/partners to join us on the journey. The Dremica BETA is the next major milestone where the game will look vastly different and the whole world is changing. And hopefully our frens at Beam will be able to assist and make sure everyone knows about it. I originally titled the work on Dremica as the "Secret weapon" before it was announced. Work on "Secret Weapon 2.0" has started which will enhance the Dremica/Carnage experience further. For Dremica to succeed we're doubling down on the "Carnage" model where everyone comes together at the same time to play. This is how the whole Moonsama ecosystem started 3+ years ago. At the BNB Chain hackathon, CZ 🔶 BNB made several very important points about AI trading (Everything in parentheses is my own view and judgment.) He first said that AI will be involved in trading everywhere. Trading itself is already a huge market: there are 300 million users on Binance alone, and if you add the decentralized ecosystems, that number is not small either. In such a mass-market environment, many different trading strategies can work, with countless different coins, different projects, and different ways to play. But there is a big problem here: building commercial AI trading platforms for retail users is actually very hard. If a trading strategy works very well for one person, once a billion people start using the same strategy, that strategy “might still work, or might stop working.” Take copy trading / follow trading as an example: if you buy first and everyone follows you, the first buyer will perform very well, but the last person to follow may not end up with good results. So, with the exact same strategy and the exact same copy logic, the outcomes can be completely different for different people. (On top of that, every strategy also has its own capital capacity limits.) Teams that can really build strong AI are, with high probability, going to trade with their own money. In today’s world, money itself is already somewhat like a “commodity”; many people have a lot of capital, and it’s actually not that hard to raise funds. If you truly have an algorithm that can make a lot of money, it’s not hard to get money and run your own book. There is really only one situation where you would sell this algorithm to mass-market users: for example, if you charge a $10 monthly subscription and can sell it to one million users, then your $10 million monthly subscription revenue is higher than the profit you could make by trading the strategy yourself. (Here this touches one of our earlier theses: as training AI models becomes relatively easier and the supply of models increases, model companies have more incentive to open-source. By analogy, as the production process of trading strategies is increasingly simplified by AI and the supply of strategies explodes, traders will have stronger incentives to monetize by expanding their influence in other words, by “open-sourcing” their strategies.) Of course, CZ did not say that this model can never work. Another path is to build an AI trading platform that lets users tune different AI algorithms, or very easily assemble their own structures and strategies, so that what each person ends up running is different and better tailored to themselves. Some people will make money, some people will lose money, but the platform still has value because it’s very hard for most people to build an AI trading algorithm from scratch. So there are a lot of trade-offs here; it’s not as simple as saying “once AI shows up, everything automatically gets better.” (This is exactly what we presented at the hackathon: you describe your own strategy in natural language, and the AI automatically generates a workflow. The parameters in that workflow, the models used, the logical structure, the APIs it calls, and even the algorithms it invokes are all customizable. The reasons we think workflows are a good way to do this include: controllable execution paths, Lego-like modular nodes, and better visualization that makes it easier for users to build and adjust their workflows.) **Let's Unite and Work Together for Successful OM!** Happy Sunday, dear global pioneers! How are you doing? I am here again to have video with you. I count the day to OM. How about you? 😊 I just recorded an informative 8-minute video addressing several important matters concerning our community and the future of the Pi Network and OM. The following is my speech summary. 1. First, I want to discuss our upcoming OM event date, which I believe will take place on Pi Day, celebrating the sixth birthday of the Pi Network. This date is particularly significant due to the symbolism of the numbers 314, derived from Pi, and GCV, which corresponds to a value of $314,159. Both of these numbers carry positive energy that I am confident will lead to prosperity and success for all of us involved in this project. 2.Regarding the GitHub code for Pi as stablecoin, it’s essential to clarify that the Pi value of $314.159 is not an arbitrary figure chosen by Mr. Kasasih; it is a value established through our blockchain records. This figure reflects the collective efforts of the global GCV community, which includes merchants, pioneers, community leaders, and GCV ambassadors who have dedicated over two years of hard work to compile an astounding 5 million data entries for GCV. 3. It is not important whether Mr. Kasasih is a member of the CT because the GCV exists as a concrete record on the blockchain. Regardless of who writes the code, the GCV value remains steadfast at $314.159. I also want to reiterate that I indicated GCV had emerged victorious during last year’s Pi2day celebration. Mr. Kasasih's coding skills are highly professional and valuable, and it’s quite likely that the CT will leverage this expertise in future developments. Who knows? 4.Furthermore, it is essential to emphasize that I don't have affiliation with the CT . The Pi value GCV lies in its origin from the pioneers rather than the Core Team. Dr. Nicolas has authorized the pioneers as the true creators of the Pi value, making it unnecessary to seek approval from the CT. When the CT decides to move forward to OM, it represents they satisfy with our GCV vision and mission are align with white paper vision and mission. This important progress will likely bring joy and pride to the pioneers, as it highlights our collective achievements. 5. As we look ahead, I believe we only have 54 days remaining before significant changes occur. I urge all anti-GCV pioneers to take a moment to reflect on the implications of this project. GCV will provide you with financial freedom, so it is not smart to oppose such an opportunity. And if pioneers involve in blackmarket will lose all account Pi. To maintain our focus on positive progress, we have made the decision to block and unfollow all individuals who express anti-GCV emotion. Our commitment is to concentrate on our shared objectives for Pi Network success and disregard negative remarks. 6. So, what should pioneers do during the last 54 days? First and foremost, I encourage everyone to focus on the Pioneers Handbook. Joining the International Telegram GCV Group is also vital, as it provides access to Pioneers Handbook available in 30 different languages. Engaging with this resource will help alleviate any uncertainties and anxieties you may have and foster a sense of happiness and relaxation. Remember, excessive worry can adversely affect your health. All worries and doubts will be totally go away after you carefully read five times. 7.Additionally, I encourage all pioneers to actively share information and articles related to GCV activities to help others stay informed and catch up. If you operate a business, please consider joining the GCV movement by accepting partial Pi payments at GCV, as this will promote wider participation within our ecosystem. 8. As we approach the OM launch, which is only 54 days away, it is crucial that we focus on building a robust ecosystem rather than fixating solely on a select few pioneers acquiring high-value commodities through full Pi payments. Our priority should be to expand GCV data and attract a wide range of industries to participate in the Pi Network at GCV. Notably, even a 10% Pi payment can generate one GCV data entry, while full Pi payments may discourage potential merchants from joining the Pi Network. By broadening more merchants, we can lay a solid foundation for our ecosystem, ensuring that GCV remains stable and reliable. This strategy will also facilitate quicker KYC and migration processes for all pioneers following the OM, as we will have established an extensive and trustworthy ecosystem. After the OM, we will successfully implement full Pi payments, allowing all pioneers to benefit from using full Pi for a wide array of products and services. But whilst hundreds of my team pass through the entry pods each day, the truth is that most of our work happens many miles away from this place - out of sight, hidden from the world, undercover, recruiting and running agents who choose to place their trust in us, sharing secrets to make the UK and the world safer. You might pass one of our officers on the street or sit next to them on a plane when you’re about to set off on an adventure of your own, or in a foreign city taking selfies by the sights. Whether it’s in seemingly everyday places, or on the front line embedded with our military, MI6 is there. In my first few weeks, I’ve heard repeatedly that MI6 is trusted and respected globally, two things that we never take for granted. We are seen as a source of hard power, soft influence and rapid innovation. I’ve also heard that people want to believe in MI6. It’s my job to make sure they can. Today, I want to talk about human agency. We all have choices to make about how we deal with the undercurrents shaping our world. About how, in our new, faster, more dangerous and technology-mediated world, it will be our rediscovery of our shared humanity, our ability to listen, and our courage that will determine how our future unfolds. Conflict is not inevitable. Understanding human nature is in my bones. From a family shaped by devastating conflict, I grew up with a deep sense of gratitude for the UK’s precious democracy and freedom. I spent much of my childhood overseas, which is where my passion for travel and adventure began. I studied anthropology, and later psychology and AI, exploring how we make sense of the world and each other. It’s why I was drawn to MI6: it offers strong purpose, a chance to serve and a belief in the positive power of human connection. Like the Service, I’m operational to my very core. Over nearly three decades, my career has involved recruiting and running agents in hostile territory; and leading operations in warzones to defuse threats and support peace. Always in teams, always learning from others. Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of brilliant partners – and indeed occasionally those we’d label as adversaries – across dozens of countries, tackling weapons proliferation and terrorism. During my time at MI5, I saw close up what it takes to defend Britain from being targeted by hostile states. You’ll find many like me in my organisation: powerfully motivated to protect our precious country; curious about how our world is changing, joining dots and taking action, across domains. But it was in my last role as ‘Q’, where it was my job to turn emerging technologies from threats to opportunities that I could most see the world changing. As I dug deep into data and extraordinary innovation, I could see how technology was rapidly reshaping not just our capabilities but also conflict and trust, truth and global power. Let me lay out how I see the global issues MI6 must tackle. Because the greatest danger we face is to misunderstand the nature of the problem. Let’s be in no doubt. Our world is more dangerous and contested now than it has been for decades. Conflict is evolving and trust eroding, just as new technologies spur both competition and dependence. We are being contested from sea to space, from the battlefield to the boardroom. And even our brains, as disinformation manipulates our understanding of each other and ourselves. Across the globe, we are now confronting not one single danger, but an interlocking web of security challenges – military, technological, social, ethical even – each shaping the other in complex ways. We are now operating in a space between peace and war. This is not a temporary state or a gradual, inevitable evolution. Our world is being actively remade, with profound implications for national and international security. Institutions which were designed in the ashes of the Second World War are being challenged. New blocs and identities forming and alliances reshaping. Multipolar competition in tension with multilateral cooperation. But there’s something distinctive that will make this change unlike any other: the impact of advanced technologies, which will accelerate the pace and scale of every threat and opportunity, and increasingly, individualise them too. Advances in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum computing are not only revolutionising economies but rewriting the reality of conflict, as they ‘converge’ to create science-fiction-like tools. There’s incredible promise in all this for all of us, from green technologies to hyper-personalised medicine. But also peril. AI-powered robots and drones are brilliant for scaled manufacturing but devastating on the battlefield. Discoveries that cure disease can also create new weapons. And as states race for tech supremacy, or as some algorithms become as powerful as states, those hyper-personalised tools could become a new vector for conflict and control. Power itself is becoming more diffuse, more unpredictable as control over these technologies is shifting from states to corporations, and sometimes to individuals. And at the same time, the foundations of trust in our societies are eroding. Information, once a unifying force, is increasingly weaponised. Falsehood spreads faster than fact, dividing communities and distorting reality. We live in an age of hyper-connection yet profound isolation. The algorithms flatter our biases and fracture our public squares. And as trust collapses, so does our shared sense of truth – one of the greatest losses a society can suffer. The defining challenge of the twenty-first century is not simply who wields the most powerful technologies, but who guides them with the greatest wisdom. Our security, our prosperity, and our humanity depend on it. Our world is being remade. And for the first time, we are all at the heart of it. My Service must now operate in this new context too: not just expert on hostile states, terrorism, proliferation and more, but also fluent in technology, able to anticipate the second and third order effects of advances that reshape the world in minutes not months. And as China will be a central part of the global transformation taking place this century, it is essential that we, as MI6, continue to inform the government’s understanding of China’s rise and the implications for UK national security. I’m going to break with tradition and won’t give you a global threat tour, but will focus here on Putin’s Russia. We all continue to face the menace of an aggressive, expansionist and revisionist Russia, seeking to subjugate Ukraine and harass NATO. I find it harrowing that hundreds of thousands have died, with the toll mounting every day, because of Putin’s historical distortions and his compromised desire for respect. He is dragging out negotiations and shifting the cost of war onto his own population. But Putin should be in no doubt, our support is enduring. The pressure we apply on Ukraine’s behalf will be sustained. Because it is fundamental not just to European sovereignty and security but to global stability. Alongside the grinding war, Russia is testing us in the grey zone with tactics that are just below the threshold of war. It’s important to understand their attempts to bully, fearmonger and manipulate, because it affects us all. I am talking about: Cyberattacks on critical infrastructure. Drones buzzing airports and bases. Aggressive activity in our seas, above and below the waves. State-sponsored arson and sabotage. Propaganda and influence operations that crack open and exploit fractures within societies. Countering this activity is the work of intelligence and security services across Europe and the globe. And as the Foreign Secretary made clear in a speech last week, the UK is defending itself against this Russian information warfare – sanctioning Russian media outlets pushing Kremlin narratives. The export of chaos is a feature not a bug in this Russian approach to international engagement; and we should be ready for this to continue until Putin is forced to change his calculus. So, how should we respond? It’s not enough now just to understand the world. We must shape it too. MI6 is well-positioned to respond to these threats and wider global instability. And we will continue to evolve, just as we have throughout our long history. The UK government has invested in our intelligence agencies and we are all using our unique powers to keep the British people safe. Our ‘open and connected’ partnerships across the UK Intelligence Community, with HMGCC, NSSIF and the wider tech ecosystem in the UK will become even more important – because in the digital battleground, no single organisation can prevail alone. As a global agency, MI6’s inbuilt strength is our partners and our people. The risks I have set out require us to work ever more closely with our colleagues in MI5, GCHQ and in defence and diplomacy. But also with our Five Eyes partners, with the E3, the EU, NATO, those across the Middle East, the Indo-Pacific and beyond. And with many valued partners whose identity needs to remain secret. Together, we integrate our diverse talent, data and tools to meet the threat. AI is a domain in which we will excel, using the technology to augment, not replace, our human skills. Every digital trace, every byte of data, every algorithmic decision has implications for the safety of the lives of the courageous people who work with us as officers and agents, and for the UK’s strategic advantage. Mastery of technology will infuse everything we do. Not just in our labs, but in the field, in our tradecraft, and even more importantly, in the mindset of every officer. We will become as comfortable with lines of code as we are with human sources, as fluent in Python as we are in multiple other languages. Under my leadership, MI6 will continue to attract Britain’s best and most creative minds: linguists and data scientists, case officers and engineers, behavioural experts and technologists. We need people who walk in the shoes and get in the heads of our adversaries. We need people who think differently, challenge assumptions, and act decisively. All can thrive and make a difference at MI6. At an operational level, we will sharpen our edge and impact with audacity, tapping into – if you like – our historical SOE instincts. We’re at our best when we’re hustling to make things happen, because our intelligence is most valuable when it changes reality on the ground. We will take calculated risks, where the prize is significant and the national interest clear. We will never stoop to the tactics of our opponents. But we must seek to outplay them. In every domain. In every way. So intelligence must drive action. Action must deliver advantage. And advantage must serve Britain’s security and prosperity. But at the core, our deeper contribution is also our simplest – how we unlock human agency. Our fast-paced, tech and threat-infused world now generates more heat than light. As nations retrench and rearm, we are losing opportunities to listen to what’s really going on. I’ve seen time and again throughout my career, that this is where MI6 matters most: we listen and we hear. We understand, because we take time to learn languages and cultures, complex technical and historical detail, immerse ourselves in what’s really driving the situation. Across the globe, right now, our officers are finding people with the courage to step forward, and they are taking time to sit and listen to break these tightening cycles of violence. They listen for nuance, for connection, for opportunity. Over the years, I’ve listened to terrorists who have told us how to defuse the bomb because they know that more violence won’t help. To proliferators and smugglers who’ve told us where to find the dangerous material, motivated to protect their children’s future. To people trapped in authoritarian regimes who know, deep down, that their humanity is being chipped away – and that telling us what’s really going on is an important release, allowing us all to find better ways to navigate our changing world. So, we will work with our agents. And we will continue to engage directly, and with respect, with states and organisation currently working against us. Away from the glare of the media, we will use MI6’s convening power wherever we can to make a material difference, bringing parties together to defuse tensions. But the response to the increasing risks we face won’t be delivered by the UK intelligence community alone. Wider society has a role to play too. That includes work taking place in schools across the country so our children don’t get duped by information manipulation. Let’s all check sources, consider evidence, and be alive to those algorithms that trigger intense reactions, like fear. It also means everyone in society really understanding the world we are in – a world where terrorists plot against us, where our enemies fearmonger, bully and manipulate, and the front line is everywhere. Online, on our streets, in our supply chains, in the minds and on the screens of our citizens. We must all stand together against this. As we do today with our friends in Australia after the shocking antisemitic terrorist attack this weekend. My thoughts -and those of my whole organisation – are with the family, friends and loved ones of the victims. Light will always win over darkness. In rising to meet these challenges we, in MI6, will remain anchored to our values: courage, creativity, respect and integrity. And to our principles: accountability and trust are not constraints on our work; they are the foundations of our legitimacy with the British public. Recently, I had the privilege of meeting and thanking a foreign agent who has worked with us for decades, taking extraordinary risks to help keep the UK safe. I asked why. They said simply, ‘Your values. Your integrity and respect. None of us have a future without them’. This moment reinforced to me that we must remain a very human agency. And so, to sustain that trust, MI6 will continue to be more open. Not for the sake of visibility, but because it matters – and as my MI5 counterpart Sir Ken McCallum said recently - because it is a strength. We will continue the practice of speaking publicly, broaden our channels of engagement, and sustain our focus on attracting the most diverse talent to join our Service. Transparency does not mean revealing what must remain secret. It means showing the British people who we are, what we stand for, and why our work matters. We need your trust and support for the difficult and often dangerous work our agents pursue, every day of the year. In an age of uncertainty, one constant remains: the choices made by human beings still determine the shape of the world. Yes, technology can illuminate possibilities: but information requires judgement; complexity demands clarity; and only people can decide which path to follow. The United Kingdom’s global voice has never rested solely on strength – it has rested on trust, principle, and the ability to understand others as well as ourselves. That is also the essence of intelligence: not simply knowing the world, but interpreting it through a uniquely human lens. Ours is the quiet service, the hidden service. It is one rooted in a profound belief that when human beings act with purpose and integrity, they can steady a faltering world. When the Berlin Wall fell, it was our shared belief in freedom that carried Europe forward. When acts of terror targeted open societies, it was intelligence, cooperation and resolve that preserved them. And when adversaries blur fact and falsehood, our task is to defend the space where truth can still stand. As we step into the future, the tools at our disposal will evolve. But what will always matter most is the human element – the person who stands in the shadows and says: this is right, and that is wrong. That choice – the exercise of human agency – has shaped our world before, and it will shape it again. Because in the end, it is not what we can do that defines us, but what we choose to do. TOPIC #88: LET'S TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION! Dear Global Pioneers, I have been very busy with my tax work, as it is currently the US tax season, which is a particularly hectic time for tax professionals. Although I am still at work, I want to ensure that all pioneers feel reassured and informed. Here’s a short summary of the current situation. This morning, I gave a speech to the Chinese community, and I am sharing a summary of that speech to help everyone better understand our current standing. After more than two years of hard work, we have successfully established a Pi value as GCV of $314,159 based on over five million of GCV data. Following the launch of the Open Network on February 20, 2025, previous policies will no longer apply during this open network period. It's important to note that the blockchain record of GCV is less significant than the exchange market price of Pi right now, as the GCV is already embedded in the code. And if we cannot get Pi price fixed at GCV, all ecosystem cannot afford full Pi payment. ( no matter what kind of Pi value) Our enclosed mainnet is designed to generate GCV for our internal community. However, we are now shifting our focus outward to establish a market price for Pi for external users. This step is crucial for the global acceptance of Pi as a stablecoin for payment. Currently, the price of Pi on the exchange market poses challenges in signing up merchants for MapofPi. Although we are still conducting small item barter transactions with partial Pi payments for GCV, our priority has shifted toward the external market. We aim to buy back low price Pi from the exchange market and increase Pi's influence. The PCT strategy aligns with our GCV CT: to increase the demand for Pi. Our goal is to regain control over Pi's price. GCV pioneers work so hard to buy back Pi, and the PCT uses domain name auctions to buy back current low price Pi to the Pi pool for future miners. It is vital for pioneers to unite in this effort. Please promote the Pi Network domain name auction on all social media platforms to attract companies, organizations, and individuals to bid on Pi domain names. They must purchase Pi from the exchange market and set up an auction wallet to facilitate the transfer of balances from the exchange to the auction wallet. The PCT will announce how to create this wallet soon. Currently, there are only five exchange markets available on KYB for almost a month since the Open Network launched on February 20, 2025. The announcement for the domain name auction, along with the auction wallet, has occurred on March 14, 2025. This demonstrates the importance of the exchange market is the primary task. Only when price setup, we can move forward to ecosystem. Many pioneers assume that 100 Dapps will stabilize the price, which is a misunderstanding. Without price stability and a Fiat conversion channel, merchants will hesitate to accept Pi as payment. Before asking others to do so, we must evaluate the situation ourselves. If you are a merchant, would you confidently accept Pi as payment if its price is unstable? All businesses have a responsibility such as: the wages to employees, taxes to government, rental to the landlord, materials to suppliers. So our pioneers should create a safe business environment for all ecosystems. Our goal is to ensure they have a stable and healthy business environment. We are pioneers, and it is our responsibility to remove any obstacles that the PCT cannot handle. This is our pioneers task. Our current work should focus on advocating for the auction of domain names on all social media and educating them on how to participate. Before the auction wallet opens, they can purchase Pi on the exchange market while the price is low. Please do not panic about the low Pi price; this actually presents a good opportunity for us to buy at this level. We should take advantage of the low price. The current Pi price does not reflect its true value. Additionally, please do not use GCV to judge whether the auction price is high. Everything we are doing now is to help GCV code implementation, and until it is fully established, We need strategy to reach our goal. we should not view auction price as expensive. What we truly need is high demand for Pi, and a lower price allows for quicker buybacks and increased utilization. Wisdom is essential in this situation. On the other hand, we should appreciate those providing Pi at low prices, as this enables many pioneers and outside companies and investors to purchase larger amounts. This process helps PCT to buy back Pi to reduce its supply in the market by auctions, allowing our GCV pioneers to regain control over pricing. Once the supply of low-priced Pi is exhausted, we can control the Pi price to GCV. Currently, the low-priced supply of Pi is beneficial for attracting more external users. Pi Network needs more external users! It is similar to Chinese Tai Chi to "take advantage of the situation," and just like in yoga, we should let go of all resistance and "let nature take its course." Yesterday I saw Hokanews post the article which is:" The Price of Pi Coin is not $314,159, Here are the actual facts from the words of Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis ". This led to all global community shock and debate. The following is what my understanding of this article and my explanation is to let the community avoid the misleading of Dr.Nicolas Statement! Pay attention! This is only my personal opinion for reference only. I am not representing Dr. Nicolas or Pi Network Core Team!🙏 1. Dr Nicolas never guides or indicates what the Pi Coin price is. He stated one year before: Pi Price was created by pioneers. Therefore Pi Network CT never judges price or indicates/ guide price. They never interrupt pioneer community activities regarding price. They strictly obey USA SEC regulations! If someone uses Dr. Nicolas name to manipulate price, this is a fake statement. It's not Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis statement. 2. Dr Nicolas Kokkalis answered some Pioneers questions regarding 0.01 transaction fees around one year before. Some Pioneers think if $314,159 is Pi price then 0.01 Pi transaction fees are too high. Therefore Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis answered that 0.01 is fixed right now. But it will be adjusted with time. It can be 0.001 or 0.0001. Maybe some day, it can be 1/1 million which is 0.000001 which is the lowest in the Blockchain system. He just gave an example and he said 0.000001 is Pi Network Blockchain function to adjust the transaction fees Lowest limit. 3. There are logic mistakes in Mr. Lu statement. The possibility of 0.000001 doesn't mean it is. How can we change the possibility to reality. This is the critical thing we need to consider! Right now large portions of Pioneers Community accept GCV $314,159. And we can see in China there are 100 million USD transactions to support GCV! However I only see $200 1 transaction to support 1 million USD. If I am wrong, please send me the substantiate proof. 4. Our GCV $314,159 never goes against higher consensus price. $314,159 is safe bottom line to start open mainnet. And we can see many merchant promises to use GCV when this price is fixed which includes real property and cars vehicles, gold ect. 5. If the price can't be united, the Eco system mature time will take a long time. I don't think this is what pioneers and merchants want to see. In addition, the longer close the mainnet, the more pioneers and merchants will lose. I heard from Chinese merchants that they almost used up all their inventory and funds to support GCV. They are waiting for the price to be fixed and open the mainnet so that they can have cash flow to restock. If the open mainnet is delayed, they will have a hard time to support anyone. 6. Not only GCV merchants need to open the mainnet soon, low consensus merchants such as $100 or 1$ price has almost run out of the inventory or fund too. No matter the high or low price for barter, all merchants need cash FiAT when the industry cycle is not built up. I heard one merchant gets 2000 Pi from barter by using a low price,he complained that he has no cash to support anymore. 6. In order to save and help all low and high price merchants, united prices are critical to resolve all cash flow problems. Only when united prices, the outside eco businesses know how to pledge pi to use Blockchain and create the demand of Pi. So merchants and pioneers can have converters use the same price! I call on all global community pioneers and merchants united to GCV together and don't fight prices anymore. It will hurt the community if you can't settle the price down soon! It wasn't the best. If you use it on VFX heavy sprites, it would start falling apart - either via grain/artifacts, or displacement. But I just couldn't give up. I knew I needed something more. This was the limit the models could give me. So I consulted science: Zheng et al., "Bilateral Reference for High-Resolution Dichotomous Image Segmentation" (CAAI AIR 2024, arXiv:2401.03407) - BiRefNet If any of the brilliant minds who wrote this paper read this post, I'm extremely thankful for your research. It made me solve a really big problem with 2D sprites, and I'm extremely grateful! Thank you! Please reach out if you see this! Now, how does this solution work: 1⃣ Generate your Kling animation (still king for anime 2D style). 2⃣ Run BiRefNet (HR-matting variant rocks) → get solid character alpha. 3⃣ Compute simple brightness/luminance alpha (luma → alpha curve, easy in any tool). 4⃣ Final alpha = max(BiRefNet_alpha, brightness_alpha) — that's it. No fancy weights needed. 5⃣ Feed to your engine / Comfy / whatever. Dynamic lights now play nice with zero artifacts. Mind you, this solution requires an nVidia GPU to run local inference. Alternatively, you can get it done on Colab likely with the free tier! You can try CPU, but no guarantees. Try a lighter model like BiRefNet_lite-2K. Demo is purposely in 30 fps even though I wouldn't run an anime 2D game above 12 fps - for both style and performance. Just wanted to show you the absolute results. TOPIC #19: CORRECTION OF MISCONCEPTIONS IN SOME PIONEERS Happy Sunday, Global Pioneers.🌹🌹🌹 I hope you are all doing well. I wanted to address some misconceptions that I've noticed among our community of Pi Network pioneers. ✅Firstly, Pi is a cryptocurrency that is intended to become a real currency, but it won't replace FIAT currency. Traditional cryptocurrencies have failed as currencies but have instead become assets. Therefore, Pi Network needs a consensus price to OM instead of relying on the exchange market. Please don't use traditional cryptocurrency concepts to limit Pi Network, as regulations will be different from current cryptocurrencies. The regulation for Pi Network as a currency has not yet been released because Pi has not yet been introduced to the world. All activities are currently happening within the community. ✅Secondly, many pioneers have requested the Core Team (CT) to give a price so that we can OM, but this is not possible. CT cannot give a price or guide or indicate a price because it would pose a risk to the project. CT can only work on infrastructure and technology. The government will not be involved in Pi Network, especially during the enclosed mainnet period. This period is for CT, ecosystem developers, and pioneers to work together for the ecosystem. They provide applications and utilities, and pioneers provide the consensus price to help the ecosystem prosper and become robust and mature so that the price won't be affected by the exchange market when OM. Therefore, the current emergency for pioneers is to achieve a safe and high enough consensus price. If we can reach this price and prove it on the blockchain record, the sooner pioneers can pass KYC and migrate to reach OM. ✅Thirdly, some pioneers think of themselves as customers and imagine that they don't have to do anything but require CT or big companies to stand in front and do everything so that they can get wealth. This is impossible. Pioneers have a responsibility to reach a consensus price that aligns with Pi Network's long-term goal, which is to become a world currency. 👉The sooner we can achieve this, the faster KYC and migration will be. Please don't complain to CT because they've completed their task. It's up to pioneers to do our work. 👉Fighting over the price has delayed the process. How can we help? Study the white paper yourself, educate your community, and generate good data. This will help your region's KYC and migration speed. 👉Please remember that Pi Network is contributing a lot and is eager to OM more than us because they spend a lot of money every day. If they didn't insist on their mission, they could have gone to the exchange market two years ago and made a profit. But they have a mission and can withstand high pressure to achieve their goal. 👉They called pioneers one year before to complete our task, which is to reach a price consensus. It's not just about completing your checklist. The checklist can be done in a few minutes. It's not because there aren't enough validators, but rather that many validators have no applications to validate because CT hasn't released them. 👉Why? Because too many pioneers are involved in the black market, and too many low prices are recorded. If they do, Pi's mission cannot be realized. 👉The point is not just to pass KYC and migration. The critical point is united price to GCV! And total leave blackmarket! 👉If CT lets everyone pass when the price is too low, Pi will fail as a currency, and there will be no chance to change it. I was involved in a German cryptocurrency that was in the same situation five years ago. Yes, it was OM on time, and everyone passed KYC. But what happened? Since the holders received the coin at a very low price, around 0.2 Euro by ICO, and some got it for 0.05 Euro, many holders sold it when OM, causing the price to drop to 0.004 USD in 2 months for four years, and now it's still 0.002 USD. Even though the boss invested a huge amount of money to create a need and develop many ecosystems, it still cannot change the reality. ✅So our goal is not just KYC, which cannot make you earn money or at least cannot make you financially free. Our goal is for Pi to successfully OM, satisfying its long-term mission and goal! When Pi Network successfully launches Mainnet, you will definitely achieve financial freedom. This is not just a matter of earning a few hundred or thousand dollars ( Actully I heard a lot pioneers have been scammed which means they lost Pi but no FIAT transfer to them) as you may have experienced before. Those funds will eventually be spent and you may find yourself in the same financial situation as before. In fact your wallet Pi will be confiscated before OM which means you are totally lose change your life opportunity. Do you think it's worth the risk? If you really need hundreds dollars, I suggest to find a labor work such as a waiter who can earn at leas $3000 -$4000 monthly. 👉Therefore, I strongly suggest that pioneers spread education on GCV and study the white paper in your community. Our behavior should align with Pi Network's long-term vision. Only in this way can we push OM quickly, and maybe you will be lucky, and your region can get more KYC slots and migrate more because of your hard work. TOPIC #35: THE IMPORTANCE OF GRASP TIMING/OPPORTUNITY "On Timing" is a philosophical book written by Francis Bacon, who is considered the founder of modern induction and a pioneer in logically organizing scientific research procedures. The book mainly discusses the importance of learning to recognize and seize opportunities, as well as the significance of the opportunities themselves. The defining characteristic of opportunity is its fleeting nature. If you are not prepared when it arises, or fail to actively seize it, it will vanish. It is often suggested that those who capitalize on opportunities are the epitome of wisdom. Why is this the prevailing belief? It is because a wise individual does not falter in the face of adversity or peril. In truth, danger and risk are not as daunting as commonly perceived, and they are inevitable. It is preferable to confront them with bravery and confront them head-on. It's crucial to be able to identify the right timing for Pi Network. Our GCV communities are putting in a lot of effort to establish this timing, which includes meeting condition 2 and other factors. We are also preparing for condition 3, using the Law of Attraction to bring together all global pioneers to pray for a peaceful world and smooth operations. The timing for OM depends on several factors, with community confidence and trust being particularly important. The business war is similar to a military war. The business opportunity is akin to a top military opportunity. So when the timing is right, the General in the battlefield is not bound by orders from his sovereign. This illustrates how important it is to attack when the timing is right. The relationship between monarchy and the General has been historically governed by the principle that frontline commanders may sometimes need to make decisions that go against the monarch's orders. This principle is based on several reasons: the specialized nature of warfare, the monarch's physical distance from the front lines, and the challenges of timely information transmission during rapidly changing war situations. It is essential to fully respect the frontline commander's authority to make critical decisions in the pursuit of victory and the benefit of the country. Today, the Pioneers community is like a General, and the Core Team is like a Monarchy. We are submitting a proposal and petition because we believe Pi2Day is well-timed. Most pioneers have been motivated, and a huge amount of GCV data has been created. I want to emphasize that more than 92% of the content in the 10 pages is GCV data just today. This is because pioneers community can see the bright future and fewer pioneers are engaging in selling or buying or Pi low price bartering. In the world, there is no 100% safety. We always face challenges and some risks. Therefore, it is important to take advantage when pioneers have strong confidence and trust. However, if the OM date is prolonged after Pi2Day, some pioneers will lose confidence, and most community leaders will face a lot of pressure in terms of their time, energy, and finances. When the OM date and the price are finalized, all risks will be eliminated, and this will pave the way for Pi Network to achieve great success in the near future. When we are confronted with the choice between the OM date and reaching 10 million wallets, I firmly believe that the OM date holds greater significance. This is because our ecosystem is currently inadequate, and having 7 or 8 million wallets is sufficient for usage at this point in time. In our current community-oriented capacity, it is imperative to be attentive to the 55 million pioneers we serve. Their welfare is currently under strain, and their emotional equilibrium is notably precarious. Consequently, I strongly recommend that CT consider Pi2Day as the official milestone date.
